@@56postoffice I saw the trailer for that a long time ago and was eagerly anticipating it, and now that it is out I've completely forgotten about it. Cheers for the heads up man!
Can’t blame Fassbender for the last two X-Men. The first two were amazing and I think he was under contract for the next two. I’ll watch any film with him in it.
can be said that a lot of actors, possibly a few on this list for these films, only appeared in them because they were under contract... sometimes it's good to know if this is the case, as you can sometimes see the difference in quality, sad that this is the case, but that's a contract for you...
He actually wasn't under contract for Dark Phoenix though. The studio had to convince him, Lawrence, Hoult and McAvoy to come back one more time for the last one. Must've taken a lot because by then Fassbender and Lawrence weren't particularly fond of working on them.
Adrien Brody: great actor, outstanding technique; the youngest actor to ever receive an oscar to date, but he hasn't had any rgeat roles in the past... what? 12 years? so sad
True, but watch Peaky Blinders, awesome performance there, in an overall great serie, with other top notch performances by Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill, Tom Hardy,
@@doloritasvega well then you are in for a treat, I knew brody, but wasn't prepared for this, i really hated this personage, his mannerisms, just wanted someone to punch him on his nose hahaha, might well be the best performance in this show, and he has some great competition
I dunno, I don't think a few standouts define a great talent. She's not terrible by any means but I don't think she's had nearly enough solid work to justify the praise she gets.
For Gary Oldman, you forgot his worst movie of all: Tiptoes where he plays a dwarf. And if you know where to pause, you can clearly see him walking on his knees. No, I'm not kidding.
Am I the only one who thinks Clive Owen is the same in every movie he’s in? I couldn’t pick his different characters out of a line up they’re all so similar.
yup, same as samuel l jackson, denzel Washington and most of the others top tier actors. Sometimes there is variation, but in essence they are the same.
Thank you! My thoughts exactly when he showed up on this list. Very much a one-note actor. If anything, I thought Gerard Butler deserved a spot on here more than Clive Owen.
@@marconarco540 'Why are you shouting? ' 'Because this is the way I talk!' 'I'm Samuel L Jackson, and this MY BEER!' That's literally the first thing I thought of. 😂
One that I could think of is Tim Curry. Even though the guy has made a career being the best part of the movies he's in, problem is how many times he REALLY was the best part of the movies he's in. As in if you cut him out, the movie sucks FAR worse.
Tim Curry as the Devil is the main reason I love Legend, although Mia Sara is the other reason I love that movie. Tim Curry's portrayal in it is nothing short of magnificent, along with the makeup design.
Christopher Walken only plays Christopher Walken these days though. I mean, in his early stuff like The Dear Hunter he was sublime. But lately? If someone hires him it's because they wrote a part for Christopher Walken, not a character they created.
@@Tanstaafl_74 yeah it might become a bit of a parody, it's why he now is known as the king of cameo, it's his particular way of talking, the movements of his head.. yet there are those few examples like pulp fiction, true romance, or catch me if you can, where it just doesn't get any better the that. Especially pulp fiction, it's almost like written for him, no one else could deliver that..
Malcolm McDowell has a tendency to turn up in bit parts in some fairly naff films. Apart from Bombshell 2 years ago I can't think of a good film he has done since 2008.
@@DarksouIjah ...go back and look at his earlier films...Birdy, Peggy Sue, Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, Wild At Heart, Red Rock West, Leaving Las Vegas...the guy was a serious talent before he became a caricature of himself...
Oh, Scott......Rotten Tomatoes is an aggregate site, it's not an independent reviewer. Perhaps you just enjoy shlock, trash and lowbrow and are pissed others cant see how wonderful your taste in movies is?
I felt that Alien Covenant was too David-centered. And didn't focus enough on the engineers. Prometheus was actually a decent film, albeit it missed the mark a little.
DC Has The Best Comics thats the point though... David made the Xenos so why focus on the engineers i think it needed to focus even more on the 2 Androids. And the push and pull of serving who created you... or trying to become something greater than them.
@@henrycavillsrealmustache3553I understand what you are saying. But one of the things i love about the original alien film was the mystery surrounding the space jockey. It's that mystery that made the engineers and the xenos scary. I felt that covenant ruined that mysterious feel to the xenos and engineers. But that's my opinion.
Completely agree with you. Was actually really enjoying covenant. Felt it could have used a little more time in space to get to know the crew, but that’s a small issue. The drop ship scene was amazing, brought back memory’s of aliens. The planet looked great and was looking forward to our crew meeting their untimely end. Then David turned up and the whole movie went to crap. Ended up being the worst alien movie, other than the 2 alien v predator movies. Prometheus on the other hand was done very well.
Hey Gareth, Love your Team Cap shirt. I have that one as well. All I can about the actors on this list, just go watch their good films/tv shows and try to forget their bad stuff.
Michael Fassbender was the man, he had that Midas touch, when he took on a film you knew it would be good, he could even join a crappy franchise like Fox's X-Men and make it good again. When he signed on to do Assassin's Creed I really thought that would be the one, the first good video game movie, phenomenal actor, and director, relatively grounded concept, then... it came out.
GLOW and American Gods came out in the same year. Both featured Betty Gilpin discovering her husband cheated on her with her best friend in the first episode. (Gilpin’s scene with her zombie friend in the second episode is hilarious-Gilpin’s reactions are priceless.)
Maybe it's just me, but this list is more like "9 Great Actors Who Keep Appearing in Terrible Movies"... and some dude named Edgar Ramirez that I have never heard of before in my LIFE
I guess if you are of a certain age and you saw his starring role in Best of the best, you always notice him. His biggest problem though is after a few early starring roles, he just went for supporting roles the rest of his career, appearing in god knows how many films a year (just look at his credits on IMDB, something like 13 movies or TV appearances in 1996 alone). His appearance in The Dark Knight in 2008 was also probably his most prominent and memorable role in years, and even that was just a supporting role.
The last thing I saw Clive Owen in was an ad for an online casino, where he was sat on a bench with a bottle in a brown paper bag looking thoroughly miserable. I assume he was acting, but I'm not 100% sure...
by comparison, a lot of older movies "sucked" at the time but slowly garnered cult and camp status over the decades... hard to really say for sure despite what we think now...
I saw a clip from the upcoming Kevin Hart comedy DIE HART earlier this evening, and Travolta has a big part in that (listed alongside Hart in the credits). I'm not saying that the picture will be any good, but it is a role for John. CuffColl.
He's played the same character in every film for the last 35 years. I hesitate to even consider him an actor at all at this stage. He has the range of a jammed pistol.
I guess 2 days ago when this video was released the news hadn’t came to Whatculture that John Travolta has just lost his wife, the beautiful and talented in her own right, Kelly Preston has died after a long battle with breast cancer. So I’m thinking that John took as much work offered to him, good and bad to help pay for her treatment. You cannot fault the man for that, it’s the second love of his life to fall with the same illness, as well as losing his son a few years ago this is a crushing blow to an actor who I believe is worthy of a third comeback. I personally hope he does and I’ll watch it with a smile. Also, I am Wrath was pretty good (albeit the part where he had a huge tattoo done in what seemed like 20 minutes)
How about Cuba Gooding Jr.? He was once a fantastic actor from films like Jerry Macguire, What Dreams May come, Outbreak, Men of Honor, Boyz in the Hood, etc. Now he's in a lot of low rent straight to DVD movies. Also, Nicolas Cage, have we not forgot him?
Evolution and final destination one he did great. I cant really remember any others....oh damn he gave will Ferrell the dart that he launched in to his own neck...umm old school..damn i wanna watch that now
Love Eric Roberts in the highly praised "Mr. Brightside" although he was lost a bit when compared to Brandon Flowers and his amazing table flip of the checkers board scene.
I love how you are bagging on Eric Roberts for taking any role that will pay what he asks for, but you don't mention Michael Caine, who follows the very same strategy of acting success.
Eddie Murphy- Pluto Nash, A Thousand Words. Jai Courtney- Die Hard 5 and Terminator Genysis, Suicide Squad. I think he deserves the title “Franchise Killer”
From Paris, With Love was a fun movie. If anyone went to it expecting some deep message, then their disappointment is a self-inflicted wound. I have no sympathy.😁
I'm still waiting for the sequel with him and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers globetrotting offing criminals and other terrorists; while playing chess in their off time while eating Royale with Cheese and downing that with weird, generic energy drinks.
I'd like to nominate Taylor Kitsch for another list like this. He's appeared in so many movies that have flopped, but he's a very talented actor. Have you seen him in Waco or The Normal Heart? He was fantastic.
I actually was talking about Gary oldman the other day when The dark knight was on. I've always thought he was awesome as an actor but I remember saying "Whens the last time he was in a really good movie?" I had to IMDb it.
Wally West sure those were great, but the majority of the more recent De Niro movies don’t hold a candle to such a great actor and are a far cry from his early work.
I was watching Clash of the Titans last night and thought about Sir Lawrence Olivier saying that he kept appearing in bad movies so he could have some extra cash to leave to his grand kids.
I would say Jason Statham, Kiefer Sutherland, Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, George Clooney, Kate Winslet, and Meg Ryan. In fact with Meg Ryan one of my favourite movies is Prelude To A Kiss, and you can't even get it on Blue Ray at all.... that's how much failure she had after. In fact you forgot all about her!!!
10. Gary Oldman 9. Clive Owen 8. Eva Green 7. Michael Fassbender 6. Taraji P. Henson 5. Edgar Ramírez 4. Anne Hathaway 3. John Travolta 2. Betty Gilpin 1. Eric Roberts
Dwayne Johnson should be on this list, just because his movies are huge blockbusters doesn’t mean they’re good, in fact most of them are terrible or generic at best, plus he plays the same character in nearly every movie even his wardrobe is nearly the same
