Well that was a trip down memory lane! As a former Gilera man (50cc Enduro in 1977, last of the unrestricted mopeds), it's no surprise that the most desirable bikes were all Italian!
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc Год назад
yep. Imagine the RC600 released now, talk about ahead of its time 🙂
@mrsilbo6499
@mrsilbo6499 Год назад
@@barebonesmc That would be fabulous! Gilera were always a leading edge engineering company. A very few examples we all remember are - their 500cc 4 cylinder GP bikes in the late 40s, sports mopeds in the 70s, the amazingly powerful 125cc dirt bikes in the 1980s and advanced 125cc road bikes (Crono & SP01/02) and my personal favourite, the Nuovo Saturno 350/500. Always so pretty too. The stillborn 600 with a Japanese engine (Suzuki GSX-R I think?) was a real looker too. They're Chinese owned now, so let's see what surfaces.

Had a mate had a Suzuki DR Big, loved that cos it just looked so different like my Katana. He was a bit vertically challenged so it was always amusing to watch him coming to a stop at lights where he would lift his left leg over and get off coming to a stop, leaving his right foot on the peg and brake then remounting as he pulled away. 😂

I'd suggest the Honda Dominators. The 250 version was never officially available in the UK but the grey imported one I had was a cracking little bike, fast enough to mix with motorway traffic and light and low enough for confident off-roading.

Note the SWM superdual and the RS650. They share the same engine with the AJP pr7. I own the RS. Great bike. CCM is also buying engines from SWM. the engine is “Italian red Husky” from the BMW days (Post Cagive). The first adv Guzzi was the ugly TT 650. The NTX that replaced it was a lovely bike with 42L fuel tank.
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc Год назад
yep, the superdual could have been a great bike i think, the timing of covid didnt help it here and yes, it is the red top husky engine but with a bigger sump for longer service intervals, we had a conversation below about the earlier Guzzi too, not one i had come across, thanks for watching and enjoy the ride

Indeed, the Laverda Atlas is probably one of the best oldies. Only trouble is finding parts, unlike say an old XT600 Tenere.
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc Год назад
Indeed, that is the biggest reason i havent got an RC600R, engine parts are possible, damaged bodywork another thing entirely. The Laverda crew are actually better than some for getting parts remanufactured as original, thats one of the joys of the Elefant community too. Aprilia Caponord Rally 1200. A direct competitor to the 1200 GS around 2016. Cheaper than the GS by quite a bit new and came with panniers and fully automatic suspension if wanted. Superbly comfortable, V twin power, excellent handling, tubeless rims the list goes on and on. I now have one and though not for single tracks, it is an amazing all road tourer and sport tourer in one.

As an owner of a Quota1000, it is a great bike. Supper handling. However is is clear that Moto Guzzi did not have the budget to develop it enough, so there are issues, so not a bike for those who do not know how to hold a spanner😋. Quite a comprehensive list of bikes there. Did own the CCM 450 GP....great bike when it is running, and that's the problem. Mine used to break down every 200 miles. Although some prove to be trouble free, or not as often. Also owned the 900 Cagiva Elefant, and that was great. OEM Alternator is too weak, and I remember that I was never cutting the engine at night time. The fantic will be around 16 000 CHF. Do not know about if the Chinese bike will imported in Switzerland. Ride safe and thanks for the video.

@barebonesmc Год назад
Thanks for the comments, interesting re the CCM as I had issues with an R30 I had for a while but the 450 owners seem a devout bunch. that equivalent price on the Fantic would be around £14,000 so thats almost twice as much just to have an italian badge put on a Chinese bike. I think I prefer the 'this is us' approach of Kove, more honest, thanks agan anyway mate, ride free
@Ian-bq7gp
@Ian-bq7gp Год назад
The CCM had the motor from Suzuki dr650 and that IS a great durable engine but the R30 was unreliable because of awful electrics however the new CCM seems well sorted and at £8000 or so for the basic model will be a great bike IF CCM have their QC sorted. They are a bike maker that have designed and made some lovely bikes often let down with stupid stuff before but often were infuriating when other stuff on the bike would be top notch
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc Год назад
@@Ian-bq7gp some R30 were suzuki others Rotax I believe. the 450 was actually the same as the Rotax BMW used , as to the new ones I have no idea because they just arent a serious off road machine, which CCM are you talking about? last time I looked they were more than that. and yes, they have designed some good bikes but rarely made any dents in the market. ride free mate

which models specifically? the superdual isn't available anymore which had the potential to be a great bike. the range here is focussed on the Enduro end of the market more now, the Six uses a known 450cc single engine that has a good reputation, but the RS500R is their star bike and a great option if that is the sort of bike you are looking for. 110kg Brembo brakes and Kayaba forks, but its a tall, high seat bike that is a serious enduro bike more than an ADV bike. the older superdual used the same engine as the AJP with a slightly heavier chassis set up for 2 people and has a good reputation in general.
