Sir Ratna Cafe Should be on the Top. Have been to all the 10 Shops you have mentioned, Rayar Mess, Mylapore famous for Potato Bondas, Adai, Onion Ravas & Delicous Sweets, not for Sambars
Idli is also a very good meal for the elderly. No chewing needed, light, filling, healthy, and heavenly. Started eating Ratna Cafe idlis at age 8, after visiting Marina swimming pool. Still continuing at age 71. The best Samdar Idlis. God Bless them
Idly is always an emotion as you said in the video. Since it is a comfort dish for the people of south. I always wished i would try vadacurry in saidapet. I thinking of trying this anytime when I am in Chennai. But your video makes mouth watering when you talk about idiyappam and dosa. Great video accompanied with a calm music to the ears ❤
So interesting to watch these known restaurants, still keeping busy to serve hot idlis with their trademark sambar preparation, besides other items. Thank u for ur time.
Yes, Sapthagiri used to be very good when they were a food cart. Now after they have upgraded to a full-fledged restaurant, I am not getting the same old wow factor. What are the other idly carts in T.Nagar you reccomend?
Sir Pls visit Ganesh bhavan hotel in old washermanpet. This is truly a hidden place. The idly sambar here will truly compete or even beat the places you have mentioned.
Good to see veg restaurant in Chennai nowadays every where that biryani is sprouting. Shocked to see beef biryani everywhere. Is demography changing in chennai??
Hi sir, excellent video. South Indians all time favorite food. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Neat and clean presentation. And very honest. Hats off to you. Though i would suggest one more place for you to cover, that is Prakash Bhavan in NSC Bose road.
My father used to love eating in Polimer and National Lodge all in George Town Area! He is no more but I often think of these hotels and how my dad loved them specially for Lunch! Nothing to beat Tamil food or soul food! Unfortunately I don’t live in Chennai anymore but I have fond memories of the Good old Hotels and Restaurants of Chennai!
Nice Useful and Yummy Idly Video. You missed out on Prakash Bhavan NSC Bose Road, Sowcarpet. They're popular with both South and North Crowd. The Hot Sambar Idly served with a White Rich Coconut Chutney is Ultimate. Must Try.
Chennai has the best scene for idli, dosai, masala dosai, vada curry, paasi paruppu sambar, non jaggery tiffin and lunch sambar, sodhi, kadappa, potato channa veg kurma. the best sambar i had was in kodaikanal from fresh raddish harvested from nearby farms in mannavannur or some such area.
First time I have watched this RU-vidr’s vlog. Excellent video. Commentary is as good as the idly he is relishing. Soothing background music. When did you start this?
In the middle of multiple blaring and rubbish "vera level" food bloggers, this one is totally different and a welcome change. Looking forward to seeing more of good content.
Thanks,Beautiful video, a good guide to ldly lovers! Sir, please visit Kanchipuram temple City, Thiruppukkudal street, one Kannan Sir is presenting the delicious Idly, famously known as KOYIL IDLY or KANCHIPURAM IDLY, generally distributed to the devotees,in PERUMAL temples of Kanchipuram, only during selected auspicious occasions.Previously, it was rare to see this great IDLY in hotels; nowadays some hotels are trying this idly ; KannanSir, alongwith his family, is preparing as per traditional Perumal Temple Prasadham code; he is presenting this delicious KOYIL IDLY/ KANCHIPURAM IDLY in traditional mode - Sir, this Kanchipuram Idly is NOT something ordinary; side dishes like Sambar/ Chutneys are NOT required as per temple traditions. Please try with your friends/ team members, Thiruppukkudal Street is located at the heart of the Kanchipuram City, near SRI YADHOTHAKARI PERUMAL temple, Kannan Sir and his KOYIL IDLY are very famous and you may be there at the earliest to make your viewers to taste one different IDLY.Already some good vlogs in Tamil are available in YOU-TUBE about this outlet. Best wishes for you and your team,Sir.
Thank you very much, sir for sharing excellent information about Kanchipuram Idly. For a long time I am thinking of a Kanchi episode. Sure, will visit soon.
Don't you ever entered Indian coffee house at T nagar bus Terminus, Welcome hotel at purasaiwakkam. Ratna cafe Triplicane little expensive. Near by my house getting for ₹6, ₹7, ₹8. Moong dal can be use for Kaddappa, which is the best side dish for all tiffin items. Bangalore sambar always sweet, by jaggery. At Bangalore in Majestic circle you can get anywhere and in cheap.
It must be karuvepalai nor coriander. Have you been to karpagam mess in Mylaporeand Annapoorna near Marundishwarar koil, thiruvanmur? Those two are really good.
Sorry, which one is Karuvepilai?Karpagambal mess used to be good, but if late I’m not getting that wow factor. Price is another factor that deters me. One idly for 34/- and one vadai for 65/-.
One correction. Most people would think that the Vada Curry is made out of Fried Vadai but it is made out of Channa Dal. Also, Murugan Idly's is the worst I have had in Chennai as they use the same batter for both Idly and Dosai. You should Include Palinar to this list. The idly is made out of Rava Rice but the Idly is Yummy.
Have you been there recently and Is it still open? A search on internet shows Hotel Sri Rama Bhavan boarding and lodging , but no mention of the restaurant.
In Mylapoore its changed. but in Triplicane after 25 years I tasted recently. I went back 25 years felt the same taste. Not sure Rayar's Cafe got 4.9. surely not great according to me.
@@dranthonysheeran6 why? I liked it so I am saying it. You may say it’s not good for you. But you cannot order me not to sat Ratna Cafe is good. Please learn how to type a message in public forum.
@@dranthonysheeran6 if the criticism is constructive yes. I will take. There are some ways to say it. Sad that you donot know that part. Criticism should not be done as an order. Time will make you understand that part. Just FYI, I am in USA for the past 25 years and I am saying my opinion after tasted the sambar last year as well. I born and brought up in Chennai before I depart to USA in 1999. Again it’s my opinion only about Ratna Cafe. “Stop Ratana Cafe..” is not a constructive way of saying.
I am yet to taste or smell the Sambar like that was served in Mysore Cafe , N S C Bose Rd. George Town, Madras in the 1950s. That was during my childhood.
Plenty of Sambar and Idly gets stuck in your moustache itself🤣🤣🤣🤣 Quality of your videos are very good and remarkable difference is seen every day!👌👌👌👌
Try comparing the delicious Sambhar vadai next. I found Akshayam in Anna Nagar better than HSB (Whose Sambhar was a big letdown compared to their heydays).
No. Bangalore is very expensive. In Chennai, there are all types of hotels I.e., street food, one star, two star, three star Five star and even seven star. But the taste and quality of idly and dosa in all these hotels is out standing
You should try "Idli Vadai Sambhar", IVS, they have two brances to my knowledge, one in Thiruvamyur and the other at Thoraipakkam. The one in Thoraipakkam is upscale. Except for Murugan Idli Kadai, I haven't tried the other nine. Will try all these on my next trip. Interestingly you did not mention A2B or Sangeetha/Geetham, in my opinion they barely pass. I am from Coimbatore and I am still going around the world to find a place which is half as good as our Annapurna 🤣😃😂
Main reason for Annapoorna is water. Chennai does not have that kind of water. thats is just from my point of view. When they started Annapoorna in Chennai during 1993 period, they used too bring food from Coimbatore in freezer and then served hot here. Even though the taste was very good they were pricy and not able compete local hotels in chennai hence they closed it.
Unfortunately that's true, as Chennai restaurants are unwilling to adapt to Darshini style of eateries, which will bring down the cost. Now some Bangalore style eateries like Tiffin Shastra are opening up in Chennai, right? Are they economical?
You talk about mostly of taste of idly and sambar...focus should have been more of hotel names and location/places in Chennai as the topic of the video is about iconic idly places in Chennai...
I have mentioned about the names/places in the beginning of each section and in addition, I have added an information label/scroller for each hotel, which tells the name, location, price and my rating. You may want to check.
Entire tamil nadu idly is common than Karnataka...we eat idly for school/ college lunch also..Just imagine how it connects to us..We need only idly podi enough.Hotels projects different way.
Yes, the Udupi restaurants are dwindling in Chennai but still some of the iconic Udupi joints like Mathsya, Sangeetha, Welcome, Woodlands, Palmgrove, Palimar, Lakshmi Sagar, Sudha etc., are still thriving successfully.
Could be because, most of them are proper dine-in restaurants with A/C setup and servers. If they follow the Bangalore Darshini (self-service) model, could bring down the cost.
