Uncover the top 10 Incredible Foods to Help Avoid Blood Clots
10. Tomatoes: provide a wide range of vitamins and minerals, and a healthy dose of fiber. They also contain natural compounds such as; caffeic, ferulic, chlorogenic, and p-coumaric acids. These are associated with assisting blood thinning.
9. Extra Virgin Olive Oil: this has been found to boost a component of HDL (good cholesterol) called apoA-IV. This aids in preventing platelets from sticking together. Therefore could help prevent blood clots.
8. Garlic: in much the same way as olive oil can aid in preventing platelets sticking together.
Research suggests that garlic has an anti-clotting ability. A 2001 review found that it can help thin the blood short term.
7. Ginger: has a special chemical called salicylate which helps thin the blood. Interestingly the synthetic version of this is acetylsalicylic acid and is normally called aspirin. Hence why aspirin is often used as a blood thinning medication.
6. Red and Purple Grapes: They contain over a thousand beneficial plant compounds. Drinking moderate amounts of red wine or purple grape juice daily helps keep blood platelets from sticking together and forming clots. This is due to the flavonoids found in them, which lab studies have found to reduce platelet accumulation.
5. Ginseng: it's benefits include boosting the immune system, relieving stress, and thinning blood. This is due to a compound it contains called saponin. This also helps to reduce the aggregation of platelets. Studies indicate that it can help men with erectile dysfunction. Thus suggesting it can help improve blood flow.
4.Sunflower Seeds: Are rich in vitamin E , which is recognized for its blood thinning effects. It can reduce platelet accumulation by improving the sensitivity to prostaglandin E1. In other words it is a platelet-reducing fatty acid.
3. Beets: beets contain anticoagulants. A study on healthy volunteers, found that after they had drunk a 500 ml of beetroot juice they had increased nitrates and decreased accumulation of platelets.
2. Cayenne Pepper: this spice, like ginger, contains salicylate, which can help to thin the blood. It also contains a compound called capsaicin. This unique compound has been found to help clear away fatty deposits from arteries whilst also dilating blood vessels.
1. Cinnamon: contains a powerful agent called coumarin. And is the molecule used in medications for its anti-clotting effect. It's also anti-inflammatory and helps blood vessels dilate. Cinnamon has also been found to help lower blood sugar. A marker which is associated with heart attacks and strokes.

I already take peppers including cayenne and ginger. I eat tomatoes broccoli and sauerkraut. I have changed my diet because I had angina or minor heart attack. I checked myself into hospital and I got a stent! All my bloods were normal apart from Troponin 60 ISH. I had a lesion in lcx caused by minor plaque build up, so when the artery enlarged in the sauna for e.g. it caused a minor lesion. I ate a lot of pastry and biscuits before now I don't. This new diet is also because I don't like taking any drugs like blood thinners and I'm working against a blood clot happening in the stent until the inner lining or the artery grows over the stent.

Interesting, my pharmacist didn't recommend either ginger or garlic and now I know why - both are natural blood thinners!!! Also being a type 2 diabetic, I wondered why diabetics are more at risk of PAD (Peripheral arterial disease). Why, because higher glucose levels tend to create "sticky blood" leading to blood clots. Thank you for this video.

I have been told NOT to eat most of these foods because I am on Warfarin - which I think is a miserable approach to health, i.e., "don't eat foods that are good for you, take this toxic pill instead". If I add some of these foods to my diet on a regular basis could it reduce the amount of Warfarin I need to take? Would their effect show up/affect the INR test?

because food dosing is a relatively new area of research in science/medicine. the general recommendation is to eat these regularly in your diet, unless you are contra-indicated by the doctor based on medications you take. e.g. the specific mention about garlic.

Good to know but if you have a clotting disorder, family history of blood, take birth control (and smoking increases the chances a lot), spend a lot of time sitting down you need to go to the hospital immediately if you have any symptoms but you can also not have obvious symptoms. These foods can be a nice addition but not a substitute to treatment if you need it.

Lol! The problem is eat a lot of peanuts (actually a legume not a nut) and other nuts means high consuming a lot of PUFAs (polyunsaturated fats) which is not good. Though they are essential for cell membranes eating too many likely is harming our metabolism because the body can’t use them for calorie energy as they are structural fats for our cell membranes! Monounsaturated fats but more so saturated fats are good caloric fuel for our bodies being turned in to ketones that our mitochondria can burn quite cleanly perhaps more so than glucose and carbohydrates!
