10 Indicted for Murder After Man Dies in Psych Hospital 

Dude was fully restrained and yet 10 people were still on top of him. Absolutely sickening

If you cannot sedate a violent behaving individual it’s very tough to restrain without incident. People think you can just put a hand on them and it’s over.

Psych wards have a long history of abuse of patients this has been going on for over a 100 years. Plus why didn't they just sedate him if he was being violent

Isn't that why they have sedatives and tranquilizers at mental hospitals to stop patients without hurting them?

They treat you like a prisoner in pysch wards. I spent a weekend there and Ive never felt so low. I was also hit on by a guard. He called me and asked if I missed him.

There seriously needs to be more done for mental health.They should be knowing how to deal with mental illnesses.This is disgusting to see and ny heart goes out to the family and everyones whose family member got failed by the mental health system.

I used to work in a group home for psych patients who could not live independently. One used to try to stab me with a chair leg, butter knife, pen etc because I wouldn’t let her sneak in the pantry. Anyway, never thought to pin her down or put her in a restraint. I am quicker than her and coherent so it was easy to take items from her and tell her to go back to her room. Never even thought to call police really. I knew the level of insanity I signed up to care for. Also had a 6ft about 200lb teen I cared for. Violent outbursts. Emotionally disturbed, sat with his mothers dead body For days as a young child after She died (forgot why she passed but she was in bed when found). His mental/emotional development was altered from that point on. He used to break windows, doors, items, never thought to call the police. He knew not what he was doing. It was like he blacked out. I knew the level of insanity I was caring for and he had a tragic event which altered his young mind. Never thought to pin him or restrain him. He’s bigger and stronger anyway. Point is, jail and police have no business dealing with mental illness and the staff at the hospitals need to do containment training or shut down and get companies more equipt to handle such people to take over these hospitals.

This could’ve easily been me. I’ve been admitted to hospitals on psychiatric holds b4. If you’ve ever been on a psych hold b4 this could’ve been any one of us…

He should’ve been sedated with psychiatric drugs. I thought that they gave people drugs in psych wards? Do they just suffocate and restrain them or do they administer drugs and try to rehabilitate them? We need to take a closer look at mental health facilities.

if it took 10 people to hold this guy down all these people saying drug him, what if he had a reaction to the injection, you often need judge or doctors approval. this was a horrible accident. and they tried to do cpr and save him. clearly this guy was dangerous. i dont think these people should be put in jail because they were trying to save other staff and doing their jobs. the family is just seeing dollar signs.

Similarities? Both criminals and fighting cops. Now what should the cops do when someone is resisting them with all their might? This was a big strong dude . Assaulted hospital staff and then police. Everyone wants to get emotional but as someone who works in a hospital and has been assaulted by these mental patients this is an unfortunate outcome sometimes.

Is there any scientific, medical, or ethical basis for psychiatric hospitalization at all? My understanding is the practice is not supported by anything. It is simply done for convenience. I wonder why he became combative. Could he have perceived this event for what it was, a kidnapping? A threat to him? Hmmm...

They said that he had become combative. Maybe if he had just stopped the aggressive behavior, he would still be alive. There is a lot happening here. Did the man say anything while he was being restrained? Handcuffs and leg irons. He could not go anywhere. Ten people it took to restrain one man. One man in cuffs and leg irons. The whole reason to take the person to a mental care facility is because the person is not thinking right. So, why did he go from a facility for the mentally ill to jail? Who made that call? The mentally ill become combative, nothing new there.

Why didn’t they use a sedative? You should never have to physically restrain someone for more then five minutes inside a place like that. This isn’t a race issue either. It’s incompetent staff and poor training.

It doesn't seem like the cops did anything wrong. They were restraining him but they weren't beating him up or anything.
