I own an older Audi . I feel the pain. Of course ridiculous parts markups and even more ridiculous shop rates don’t help. And now these greedy companies won’t release their codes so you can go to an independent shop. I love the car, but it’s poorly engineered in many places and overly complicated needlessly.!

I'm totally amazed there are so many problems with so many cars. It makes me wonder if ANY car manufacturer produces ANY trouble-free car. A couple of years ago I was watching a video of a truck buyer who recently bought a new GMC Denali. The video was titled..."They've had it more than me!" That is very sad and pathetic. What in the hell is going on? Where is quality? Does anyone have answers?

luxury makes with the exception of lexus focuses on short term customer experience because the majority of brand new BMW and Mercs coming off dealers are leased. So they are incentivised to 'wow' the customer with fancy features and put zero effort on long term reliability because those lease customer will dump their 3 year old cars and renew their lease with a new fancier car. disgusting consumerism and wastefulness culture. whatever happened to buying a car and keeping it until the wheels fall off?

Very nice! The car is nice but overall I would say modern Benzs have nice styling and modern tech, they are a little fragile. The engine has had a few issues along the way by other owners when outfitted in vehicles like the CLC300 or C300 even like the one in our car. Is it a terrifying setup? No, but the car is a little fragile and a must to keep a strong battery in it. Some discussion on forums about hiked pistons but to bad fueling etc. this is rare and we still like our 2018 C300 so overall there can be issues but you could do worse for sure.

Mark, 430i F36n Gran Coupe with B48, mfg: 2018, Extended warranty ends december of 2024. 109k kilometers/68K miles. I do a lot of highway kilometers, never go past 3k rpm before the car is on temperature (+ 5 extra minutes Oil/oil filter change every 10k km, Recently had my oil filter housing and oil cooler replaced due to massive oil cooler leak (under warranty). Have noticed slightly ticking wastegate when driving out of underground parking garages and streets where echoes can be heard quite well. (Apparantly that’s normal, idk) Recommendations? Keep or dump past warranty? I’m really happy with the car and always have been very happy with the performanc and looks for a daily driver & it’s completely stock. If keep, any additional recommendations what to do/look for/take into account? Nice video btw! As always
@ECPP
@ECPP 5 дней назад
Hi and thanks so much for the info and you do have one of the most reliable engines in BmWs group. The B58 and B48 are great engines but does not to be mistaken for flawless . There will be issues and the biggest ones are usually going to relate to cooling system leaks like Tstat, cooling lines, H2O pump, and the cooler /oil filter housing can leak either or both oil. And or coolant and that’s a pretty tyilpical failure but not a bad one to DIY if it happens down the road. Oil leaks from turbo cooling lines, valve cover gasket, pan gasket can weep too and do. You mention a potential wastegate rattle I would run as long as possible until it does not actuate are becomes a driveability issue. Generally all cars will need love here and there and Toyota has proven this lately with some bad engines and silly recalls. I would personally have no issue in running that car a long time. I always see more value in used cars unless they are absolute trash, which this is not because I balance this with depreciation on a new car, especially one which gets huge miles packed on. In today’s new car price nonsense, I look for anyway to keep existing vehicles running longer to get the best “bang for buck” or buy a lower mileage slightly used and still save some miles. Hope this helps.
@marcelforrel
@marcelforrel 5 дней назад
@@ECPPthat does help a lot, thank you so much! Before I had this one, had a 2014 325d from work for some time & really, I’ve always been pretty anti-bmw. …until I drove one. Really had to have one for myself after that. This is the first one I bought myself, bought from BMW with low mileage, right after the new 4-series (G23/24/26) release which helped to bring the price down even more & additionally also a couple years of warranty coverage until 12/2024. I agree with you that buying new is not always what you’re looking for, especially when looking at the depreciation and being my first BMW, I thought going ‘certified pre-owned’ was the way to go. I will be driving it for its intended purpose as well as gravel & dirt road rally (esk) driving. (I did that with my Fiesta ST for 10 years but the GR's AWD will be more fun at 9/10ths I will own the GR for 10 years or more. I am currently breaking it in PROPERLY and METHODICALLY. So what do you figure ? Warranty of No?
@ECPP
@ECPP 5 дней назад
That’s a great question and generally with most Toyotas I would say save your money and don’t bother with cars like Camrys and the V6 or older 2.5 but you have a GR and it’s a high strung engine that’s more strained and you are using it in a harder way. I would ask how much, but seriously consider it in your case and another example of where a person should buy if they want to keep it a long time would be a vehicle like the new Tundra with that new turbo engine and the Tacoma with the new turbo4z. Unproven vehicles yet.
@TerryManitoba
@TerryManitoba 5 дней назад
@@ECPP Thanks for the quick reply. I agree with generic daily driver's Warrantee may not be needing. But I asked because the GR a bit different. Having said that the GRs little cousin (GR Yaris) has the same engine & similar powertrain has been around for 4 years & was developed for Toyota's Rally Program. So the whole system is likely built fairly strong...

If you lease something like a Toyota Rav 4 prime and it is actually worth more than the residual, you just sell it before the lease expires and pay off the lease at the lower residual value.

Hey Mark, what do you think of the new Mazda cx70/90? They look gorgeous but they have a inline 6 turbo + mild hybrid, not sure if that's a combination for more future repair bills😂
@ECPP
@ECPP 5 дней назад
Hi Kevin, as it’s a relatively new combo it’s sort of hard to say right now, but the recent trends for Mazda has been great and more reliable than Hondas and make possibly even Toyota. One of the best. With that said, a lot of that came as a result of the turbo and NA 2.5 L engines but as this new vehicle has the I6 clearly going after BmW it’s sort of tough. With all of that said, Hubrids do tend to add up a little when keeping for a long time and turbo engines often have a few challenges. It’s still a safer bet than most new cars out there though. Would I? Yes quite possibly.

Should have included 1st generation Genesis products ( 2018 - )… Even just regular “consumable” parts (brake rotors, starters & etc.) are nearly impossible to find, even from the dealer for my G80. I’d be much more confident owing an Alfa outside of warranty - as most of their electrical glitches come from weak batteries. Alfa’s also benefit from fairly strong aftermarket support & some parts sharing w/ other products.
@ECPP
@ECPP 5 дней назад
Thanks for sharing, that’s interesting but I agree, Alfas are usually mostly electrical due to cars sitting a long time and not getting charged adequately

Yeah, Alfissimo & Madness Motorworks stock tons of parts for Giulia & Stelvio here in the US as they have some European connections. Can be a bit pricey but obtainable. The Genesis dealers here are problematic at best for after warranty parts/service. I ended paying out $700 for just a starter. There were some listed at various Hyundai dealerships parts sites well below that. However, they were listed as Out of Stock, no ETA… According to the Alfa forums, many common powertrain spares & fuses and the like can be cross referenced with Mopar/Jeep. And of course they use the ZF 8sp which is indestructible..

The GLB had a better ride but was not as fun to drive. That said, both of these entry level suvs were not up to the standards of what a Mercedes should be. Lots of build quality issues on both and not really cheap either. Mercedes charges for everything. A $25,000 Corolla comes with a home link transmitter to open your garage. A $48,000 GLB? Nope. $500 option!
