As a niner fan I was absolutely ecstatic when they blew out the Packers. But I was shocked when the Packers D looked like they had never seen the read option offense before. By the end of the 2012 season, teams around the league were starting to figure out how to defend that set up. But the Packers were completely lost

and having that entire offseason revolve around them studying it with colleges prolific in it it was just bizzare. It was especially bizarre because when the Dolphins brought out the wildcat, teams put in the work to study that relentlessly. The read option had become far more popular by comparison due to the # of teams using it and using it significantly. And then for notable players like Clay Matthews to just assume audibly they just werent being tough enough and that taking a meaner tougher demeanor was the issue to offset it was just as equally baffling. It was just ignorant of the scheme in a way pros typically dont show.

People keep asking what happened to Kaep? It's not him, it's his team. He is still the same player, if anything, he is actually better than he was back then, considering his numbers this season with this terrible set of receivers, defense, coaching etc. He could still do great things, he just needs a team around him. He could do some damage with a team like Denver or Houston.

eureka0521 Don't be naive. They adjusted on that read option that made Kaep successful. As you can see today NFL defenses are more prepared for that play than during his success run. If you look at the career respective of Kaep vs Wilson, Wilson improved as a pocket presence and only uses his shiftiness to get the passes off rather than run first all the time. RW would be an example of what I meant by Kaep couldn't adjust. When you keep him in the pocket, he loses all sense of a competent QB.
