Funny story about Booker. Post WWE he was traveling around with TNA and they did a show not far from where I was. He was the heel and I can’t for the life of me remember who he was wrestling, but I was heckling him the entire match. Eventually he came to the rail and invited me over. Told me if I took one step towards the ring he was gonna beat my privileged ass. He won the match locked eyes with me and did not break it until he went to the back. After the show the guys came back out to sign autographs. Guess who came out and made his way towards me. He thanked me for heckling him. Said it made the match more fun for him. And I always thought that was so cool.
HAHA ! Thats awesome ! Reminds me of when i sat front row as a kid , main event was Mr. Perfect vs Warrior . Curt got clotheslined over the top rope , rotaded backwards an his arm slung over the gaurd rail knocking my drink out of my hand . i yell " Hey man !!!! " he looks right at me and says " F*ck you ! You retarded Sh*thead ! " I was stunned !!! After the match he walked by me and winked at me with a half smirk while holding his head selling so no one could see !
I love to read those stories, they are little personal gems from wrestlers to their fans and show how awesome they can be. Thanks to share it with us !
Whether playing heel or clown, Regal was pure gold. I’m glad he was willing to do comic bits because he really had a knack for it. And there’s a whole generation of young wrestlers that he has trained for stardom.
What’s funny is it wasn’t Luke and Butch who gave The Sheepherders their reputation as ultraviolent brawlers, it was Luke and a dude named Lord Jonathan Boyd. Butch left the act in the early ‘80s due to homesickness and burnout, so Luke started teaming with Boyd mostly in the Southeast territories and Puerto Rico. That was the duo that had those brutal matches with The Fabulous Ones in the CWA. A couple years into their run Boyd got sidelined with a broken leg, so Butch came back and fully embraced the new element of their gimmick. Fun fact, at one point The Sheepherders spent like 18 months working in Puerto Rico, so they gave Boyd and mutual friend Rip Morgan permission to take bookings as The Sheepherders in the US until they came back.
@@MrBeardsley I didn't know that about Butch not being part of the original violent Sheepherders. One of the funniest moments in wrestling I've ever seen is when Bushwhacker Luke came out for the Royal Rumble one year. He (Bushwhacker) walked down the aisle and hopped into the ring. Earthquake immediately grabbed from behind, (Bushwhacker) walked Luke across the ring and pitched him over the top rope. Luke landed on his feet and Bushwhacker walked straight to the back. It was hilarious.
Aw man you brought back some great memories 🙌 the bushwackers were a great team, wrestling is so different these days I reckon the golden days are over... in wwe anyway that's for sure... still we have the golden memories huh
It was amazing how Kurt could morph from the self deprecating clown to a savage fighter in a split second. The comedy segments with John Cena early on were incredible.
One of them gets welcomed to this very day with "You suck" chants. And nobody means it in a bad way (anymore haha) but that is such an absolute chadmove
Booker T and Goldust were a funny pair back in 2002. The Lightsaber segment was brilliant. And he did a good job on putting Cody Rhodes over during his reign as the Intercontinental Champion in 2011.
Aye I still remember that very well 🤣 Booker and goldust were a great team, goldy was so funny in that whole angle, remember when he ended up in the bed with booker after book turned the light off thinking he was getting lucky with that woman and boom out comes goldust 🤣🤣🤣 they were so underrated
Tank Abbott has fought in the UFC, PRIDE Fighting Championships, Strikeforce, EliteXC, and Cage Rage and was still more than happy to play a goofy fan of 3 Count.
The Las Vegas Showgirls Match Between Goldust And Willam Regal was absolutely hilarious Jerry Lawler's Commentary Had Me Laugh My Ass Off that was Fantastic WWE during the ruthless aggression era was awesome 😂
Is he a legitimate tough guy, though? You need both parts of the equation to qualify for this list, and I don't think I have ever seen his name come up in such lists.
People poke fun at Jim Duggan's character but I think there's always a place in wrestling for less serious characters (Norman Smiley is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers). People say it makes wrestling look silly but pro wrestling is inherently silly. That's not meant to be a knock because I love me some pro graps, but it _is_ pretty silly when you think about it. Plus, the crowd will get worn out if all they see is super-intense badasses. A lighthearted moment lets them reset before they move back into the more serious dramatic stuff.
The bit where Kurt came out in the tiny cowboy hat had about 6 takes due to nobody including stone cold and Vince being able to keep a straight face. Even in the used clip the camera is shaking slightly due to the cameraman laughing
Given the team's status in UK wrestling journalism, I'd like to shoot request that Adam Pacitti and Cultaholic submit William Regal's name for consideration by the UK Honours Committee.
Jeripiss 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that was a good one As for Perry saturn I still to this day baffled at how they treated him, guy was a great wrestler when he was in the revolution in wcw with Benoit and malenko... pretty sure shane douglas was in the revolution as well but was so long ago my memory isnt as good as it was
I will never understand why the Charlie Haas impersonation gimmick didn’t get way more over at the time in 08 because it was genuinely hilarious and he made it work.
well...he did an mma fight and trains mma people, but his background is strictly Judo. Had mma been more popular when he was younger he may have gone in that direction, but he didn't really study any other disciplines until after WWE, and by then his neck was already too damaged to take it seriously. The good news is that his daughter just signed with WWE, so you can see some of his training at work.
1) I just barely noticed William Regal was supposed to be acting like some wannabe Benny Hill. 2) Bob Backlund was really into politics/running to be a politician. He finally heard Rush Limbaugh's radioshow. He loved it, the pandering, the phone calls. He adopted that gimmick. 3) "Its the 'natural comedians' that are actually the hardest working ones. (They just make it look easy)"-Rodney Dangerfield
Larger than life gimmicks like the Undertaker get balanced by guys that take the piss out of themselves. This is the professional wrestling I grew up with as a kid in the 60s and 70s.
Bob Backlund is such a nice person. I remember when I went to a book signing for his autobiogrophy, he actual gave those that bought the book a business card with his phone number, since he wanted feedback on the book. My brother and I also got photos of ourselves being put in the Cross Face Chicken Wing. You could tell that if he actually put more pressure on it than he did, it would actually freaking hurt. He's still in great shape for his age. Granted, that was a couple years ago.
Ah Kurt Angle, he’s that kind of kid in your school talented in your class, only easily been poked fun and bullied by his peers cause of reasons and look what happened. A provoked lovable peer.
That wouldnt count since it was only a one storyline thing. But now that you mention it, Steve Blackman and Al Snow were like a precursor the rkbro in having one serious partner and one not-so-serious partner. Al Snow himself would probably make such a list like this too as he is a also pretty legit person who had plenty of comedy.
Backlund was definitely in on the joke. His whole gimmick during his return was that he was annoyed by how the guys getting the cheers were guys like Austin who were using what used to be heel tactics. He decided he didn't want to be anything other than a white meat baby face and realised at the time that behaviour would be booed, so he became a heel by being a good guy.
Love when Kurt Angle is serious but his comedy stuff was making me think that he could have been comedian but it really only worked best with Stone Cold
Being the D2 amateur wrestling champion is like being the number 1 contender for the 24/7 championship. He would likely lose out to all of the top 25 in D1 for his weight class.
Anyone can open hand slap soma one unconscious. It's all where you hit. I spent 20 years bouncing before my retirement 2 years ago and I have plenty of slap knockouts. It's axtually way easier than using a fist. Your first is smaller. It's just science. I even have a video of one of my best slapouts on my phone currently. It really isn't that hard. When you slap make sure the bottom of your hand is in line with the bottom of the person's jaw and if they're not on coke or blackout drunk they go down.
That kind of blow to jaw twists the head and actually makes the brain bounce off the inside of the skull. The brain deals much better with frontal impacts (like being punched straight in the nose) so they're much less likely to knock someone out. If you watch enough boxing and/or MMA you'll notice that straight punches pretty much never cause one punch knockouts. Those come from hooks and uppercuts (which also jar the brain in a way it doesn't handle well).
