I remember when Don Mattick said that. That really pissed me off. It was like a slap to the face to all the people who didn't have internet. What the hell was he thinking?
It was also their biggest lost : I want them this gen to not concentrate only on backwards compatibility, but also on first party game and as it seems Phil is doing everything right on that part as well,if Xbox is going to have good exclusive like god of war and horizon, that will sold me entirely and as well as the ps5 I am going to buy a series x
@Joel Taveras nah i think they have a solid plan with xbox game pass. Every new Xbox studios game is coming to game pass day one. 10 euro or dollar per month for 200+ games is very cheap. And they have the latest new games on the service. PS Now is okay but most of those games are outdated, still great but I like the idea of a Netflix service just for games
@@maxpawa9282 And? I'm referring to the times where that simply doesn't happen because they can't. The phone gives you the ability to render it offline, but the xbox fiasco made it so people didn't have that option. Think.
When Nintendo removed to blood from Mortal kombat on Super Nintendo... They have forever since had a stereotype as being "the kiddie console" even after they realized that was a bad move and brought back the blood in Mortal kombat 2.
"You can't use a phone without cell service" Well yeah, but I can play games on my phone with no service whatsoever, so that point is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. That internet required thing was beyond stupid. I'm glad they have their priorities straight now.
@Blairjob3 If you tried, you would find there are actually games on phones, nothing my current trash phone can play like PUBG or fortnite, but still arcade games etc, it is just so accessible that the spam covers up the good games. That and paid games tend to be better (something most people tend not to buy on a phone).
I remember some dumbass saw the red ring in the photo I showed her of my 360 and she literally told me that the photo was photoshopped. why would I want to fix a console that's perfectly fine? why would I go through the effort?
Yeah they forced to create kinect games, and sea of thieves launched in a very empty state. Right now is full of stuff though, but it must be your type of game, if not you will get bored really fast
I genuinely believe that presentation is one of the main reasons why PS4 is still dominating today. Literally all Sony had to do was say "yeah, that thing Microsoft is doing... We're not doing that thing".
You forgot to mention that Microsoft insulted customers for criticizing Xbox One's upcoming DRM, and told them to buy an Xbox 360 if they don't like the always online aspect
You know the funny thing about HoloLens? It does sell and it is used fairly often, except it's not a gaming device! Let me explain, I work as a designer and architect. When we have to communicate changes, mistakes, modifications and such on a construction on the fly we use it to see the piece on the spot while sketching in 3D what needs to be done directly from our office. It's a huge time saver and makes explaining complex details among different staff members really easy. I doubt we will see AR tech for gaming though, at least not in the near future. I think MS realised it from the get go and wanted to avoid yet another Kinect situation - great 3D scanner for the time, horrible device for gaming!
What about when they advertised that the smaller Xbox One storage would have 500G, when it only had 342G and when they were confronted they said the 158G was to maintain a ‘good operating system’
500GB is actually the raw number before formating, which after formating is more like 484GB, then you need space to install 2 OS, WIndows 10 and the XBox game OS.
@@Happyhenzo Not yet. It's not typical for new technology to go straight to consumers. The cellphone didn't. Commerce has big pockets and niche needs. They typically fund the steps to cheaper production and better software ecosystems. Eventually, hololens will also be a consumer product.
@@Happyhenzo That was the same purpose as the cellphone and pda, which eventually became modern smartphones. What I'm saying is that it's typical of early technologies to be for enterprise first, and come to consumers later.
I remember when Joe Vargas was interviewing a Microsoft bigwig about the XBONE DRM and how detrimental it would be to them, saying that they needed to flip that switch off. The bigwig got pissy and condescending, saying the DRM was built into the architecture and couldn't be removed. Then, like two days later, Microsoft announced the Day 1 patch would remove the DRM

I remember Xbox DRM. When I bought my Xbox I literally had no wifi. At the time you couldn't use public WiFi on Xbox because of the sign in restrictions. I had to connect my laptop to public WiFi sign in, connect it to my Xbox via Ethernet and download both a software update and Gears (the game I bought) total install time was legit a day and some change 😅 those were the days. Legit the worse
Charge for what?atleast on Xbox you don't have to buy the game twice if you wanna play it on PC. Sony on the other hand can't even do that. PlayStation is becoming out date and they had a chance with the psp gen 2 but that was a major failure
@@benjaminfranklyn604 If you were an early adopter of the Xbox One, you'd know that they charged you for a mandatory kinect. Do you know anybody that used the damn thing? I sure as hell don't. I do not understand why people think a lot of money for a gaming console that last 8+ years is 5 or 600 dollars. Honestly people pay 1,200$ on phones every two years that have NO actual upgrades. As a hardcore gamer i'm willing to buy the ps5 for upwards of 800 if they can promise that it will be a massive jump in technology. Halo 5 has it’s issues but definitely a far better experience than Halo 4. But I wouldn’t say the franchise is necessarily ruined, a lot of great franchises have terrible games.
Also, Blu-Ray was developed by Sony. No way was MS gonna pick their side in the format war and pay Sony for use of their product before the war was over.

Yokonato if you also think about it PS3 had the upper hand since they sell well overseas, whereas Xbox struggles. So I would say Xbox did impressive that generation
Just *barely,* and that was internationally. In the US, the 360 still outsold it, albeit by an equally slim margin, and even then, the sales gap between the 360 and PS3 didn't really close all that much in all regions (except Japan where the former was always way behind) until the very end of that generation.
jose ramiro reynoso ruiz it does matter. 360 outsold the ps3 6 years, on year 7 when the next generation began ps3 finally caught up. It’s more nuanced than just “who had more in the end”

Apparently nobody in my moderately sized town wanted to buy the console since it looked like crap and the controller was too big.
The original xbox jumped into a market that was dominated by other systems. The fact that the original xbox gained a fan base at all is a testament to good faith put behind the project. @@imixupwords5340 Not sure why it would matter when the PS3 surpassed the xbox. Only thing that should matter when talking about how many of each that were sold is that when they stopped production and such which had sold more. They lost something like 4 billion on the first xbox and then shipped the 360 out to stores knowing beforehand that they had a 68% defect rate coming off the line and had to eat over a billion to cover the returns. I'd bet that the only thing that kept it from being scrapped was that it was microsoft and losing 4 billion was no big deal to them. When you have that much money to burn and you are already a tech superpower that kinda nullifies the 2nd vs 3rd console argument (if there was one)... but look at playstation vs nintendo - the ps and the ps2 were the 1st and 2nd ps consoles : their counterparts at nintendo were the n64 ( nintendo's 3rd) and the gamecube (4th) respectively. Sony did pretty well for being a newbie in the video gaming industry and being 2 gens of consoles behind of nintendo

You realize that PlayStation 3 didn't even exist when Microsoft released the Xbox 360, right? As far as they were aware, they were competing against the PS2, which operated on DVDs. Third Party developers, of which there were MANY back in those days, all created their games based on the specifications of a DVD. No one expected such a huge jump in size until a couple of years after the PS3 was released because devs were still trying to figure out how to utilize the Cell architecture.
@calebmckenzieboyd On top again? 😂😂😂 They never were on top at all. Even Sony’s least selling console sold more than the best selling xbox. So no they never were and they never will be!
General AkAbA, still didn’t sell more than the PS3. And developers are already saying that the PS5 is looking to be the more powerful console out of the gate. Pair that with the fact that Sony will continue to give console gamers what they want, I doubt Xbox is on top this gen. They were only ever on top for half of a generation.

PS3 closed it's sales numbers six months before x-box. Microsft waited with their closing and reported 20k more sold. Sony in those six months sold almost 100k so no, 360 didn't sell more consoles. Not a single microsoft console won a generation.
Tom K but the 360 had one year of sales before the PS3 even released… However, the PS3 sold more units BECAUSE of the intentional delay and change to Blu-Ray back in February 2006. That’s why the PS3 ended up in more homes.
The worst thing about the whole "Entertainment System" thing is, that they screwed it up. I remember in 2013/14 (idk exactly) where a bro got his Xbox One, playing a game and started RU-vid in a extra window, but this was actually covering the game window or making it smaller. Also like this picture in picture mode as showed in the ads back in this time never worked like shown. If they would've successfully made the entertainment system, so I mean playing a game while watching a Football match, a RU-vid guide or whatever + skyping with a friend the console would have been bombasticly good. Like the best ever. But I mean nowadays you still can watch TV/Netflix and whatever, but not while gaming. You can listen to music while gaming but PS4 literally does the same so idk, I have both and I really just cared about gaming since I realized Xbox fucked up the other features. But I mean, these are CONSOLES so why not game?
They didn’t really fix anything. I bought one off my brother and ended up getting RRoD. Sent it in, got another unit (which they re-serialized as being mine) only for it to die a week before my extended warranty on my returned unit expired. I’ve owned 4 of the original 360’s and all of them Ringed. Bought an S and it hadn’t ever let me down in the years since buying it, further proving that the original 360 was a flawed design. Also, when I mean “re-serialized”, they just put a sticker with your serial number on the refurbished unit. Ever wondered how the turnaround time was less than a week?

Exactly, this wasn't really a mistake because it was like an option that was off the table, and ultimately didn't matter. Most people I know of still got DVDs, and most people I know of never wanted a Blu Ray player. Hell, the cheaper price of the Xbox was likely in part due to the fact that it didn't have a Blu Ray player, which would have been way more expensive. What made me and most of the people I know buy the 360 over the PS3 was the price.
