Silk reeling, also known as Chan Si Jin; Chan (rotate), Si (silk) and Jin (power), is the principle method of movement in Chen Tai Chi. Silk reeling exercises involve simple continuous rounded and spiral movements utilising the whole body. The continuous movements loosen the joints, develop relaxation, improve efficiency of movement, and help generate whole body power.
It helps the student to develop strength, internal energy, co-ordination, body awareness, unity in movement, relaxation and leg foundation.
At any level of training Chen style Tai Chi,Silk reeling is more than a set of exercises. The body methods learned in silk reeling exercises have to be incorporated in to all aspects of Tai Chi practice. When training the hand and weapon form you are silk reeling the whole time. How you move in silk reeling is how you move in the Tai Chi form, both are interdependent on each other. Training silk reeling is a life long commitment to improving your Tai Chi form.
It is good to spend 10min each time before your Tai Chi 18 Forms practice.

Thank you, Master Ping Wu! This is really a helpful and beautiful silk reeling video. I have been following along with you on a daily or nightly basis to learn this so I can incorporate it into my Taiji practice. I do it after practicing forms. I appreciate your clear, calm, slow, step-by-step instruction, including the key points you reveal and reinforce by reminders as you go through the routine. 🙏

Sorry, all I can see is some nicely flowing Tai Chi moves. Can't see any silk reeling, and that's certainly not what I've learned about chan si jin.
