There are so very many simple repairs that people could be making. Good to see people mending rather than scrapping

Thanks for the video, very well explained! I have exactly the same screwdriver and it suddenly stopped working. Will try to replace the battery and check if it helps.

I did swap it as well with a 3.000mAh one and it's quite powerful!

When laptop batteries fail, it's often only one of the parallel sets that go bad and that stops the charging circuit charging them due to safety concerns. When you crack open a laptop battery, measure the voltages of the sets of batteries, you'll usually find one set that is really low and that is the defective one. The others are usually fine.

I would have liked your video to give guidance about the chances of the pcb being damaged. The charge light does not illuminate which I assume means the pcb is damaged but it may just be the battery. The charger is working.

This cell might be high discharge current one, that's why it has lower capacity. Putting normal cells might be a bit dangerous, I would advice replacing battery, then some screwing around with normal usage and then battery temperature test, and then if cell is cold or mildly warm, then I would screw back the case.

can get 2500mah samsung or other good brand cells for 6 quid and they are rated at 25amp draw which is gonna be a lot more than this thing can pull. will increase run time a fair bit.

The main issue is that you do need a high discharge 18650, rather than a normal battery pack 18650. I personally used a NCR18650B from Panasonic to replace the IMR. (NCR means higher drain)
@ΠαναγιωτηςΦωκας
Did it boost a little at power or just only it has better capacity
@tbelding
@tbelding Год назад
@@ΠαναγιωτηςΦωκας - Same power, because the voltage (pressure) is identical. I've since replaced two other screwdrivers the same way. Capacity? I've never worried about it. 1900-2800? You aren't going to manage to use one of those THAT hard to run it dry before you plug it in again. If you are, you need a larger unit, like IKEA's 7.2 volt hand drill.
@ΠαναγιωτηςΦωκας
@@tbelding thank you very much for being so helpful, I really appreciate it 😉

Google "18650", there are many different variants and you get what you pay for. The ones that accept high charge are often limited in the amount of current they can give and vice versa. For this application I would choose a battery that can deliver a high current (e.g. 10A, equals more torque).

Even what seems to be a complicated thing might turn out to be really easy to fix. Or really difficult. Or impossible. Some time ago I repaired a 48" Sony Bravia TV. After turning it on, tv works, then after some time picture disappears. This might mean that something is wrong with video path. As EEVBlog says: Thou shall check voltages I found a chip that supposed to get 1.1V but was getting around 0.8V and then screen goes off this falls to about half a volt. The culprit was small 120mA LDO, that was put in circuit that was drawing about 135mA. No wonder that chip died. After replacing it with some more beefy part tv works without problems. And it was two weeks after warranty ended ;-)

You don't know, that the li-on from laptop won't give you proper torque? In this case more mAh is not allweys better choice.

i have the same model. in the future i want to put it a 3200 samsung cell or lg to have a big range.. 1500mah it`s little bit and i need to charge it many times..

Will the pcb handle the higher capacity cell? I also have one of these screwdrivers, just different brand.
@tbelding
@tbelding 2 года назад
@@ruinunes8251 If it physically fits, the PCB should handle it. You simply need to make sure you have a high discharge cell, like a NCR18650B (Panasonic). It may take a lot longer to charge, that's all.
