Fans! It says it all. Yes, they disliked Quinn just because he wasn‘t Daniel, even though there was only Shanks to blame for Daniel‘s absence. They basically punished Corin Nemec for Shanks choice to leave.
i did not mind him but i felt they handled his character very poorly. first his introduction to the series was a result of him pretty much being responsible for the death of a fan favorite character which is not a good way to start off. second in a desperate attempt to get fans to like him the show made a mistake alot of shows and movies make and they made Jonas hyper competent. this essentially made him good at every thing and bad at nothing which is a good way to make a character completely unrelatable and get fans to root against them rather than root for them. he had other issues too but for the most part i think these are the main reasons he never really caught on with the fans. they also made some of the same mistakes with Cam Mitchel though to a much much less serious degree which is why he eventually did get accepted by the fans and they made none of these mistakes with vala which is why she was accepted immediately. holly wood needs to learn that you cant force people to like characters by making them hypercompetent because that just makes us root against them. you also cant make them super incompetent as that tends to just annoy fans and make them question what those characters contribute to the team. you need to make them competent yet flawed so they can hold their own whilst still having struggles and room to grow. i cant think of a better example of that than vala which is why i think she is as loved as any of the original cast.
***UPDATE*** Michael Shanks has stated on Twitter that this rumour has no truth to it - he does not suffer arachnophobia, and the blindfolded rumour is exactly that - just a rumour! Apologies for this!
Agreed. I personally didn’t like Jonas replacing Daniel. But I really got to like Jonas after awhile. Jonas getting the boot was disappointing. And I’d gotten use to the show without Daniel, so I could’ve done without his return.
Stargate is the only scifi franchise to come close to Star Wars and Star Trek in scale and fanbase. MGM's mismanagement of it was epic too. I'd be happy for someone to take the IP and do a full reboot going for the same tone in a "today" setting. Hell, can be the same universe but a different timeline since alternative timelines where the Stargate is (or isn't) figured out at different times is a thing already. The Stargate itself is probably the best TV series plot device ever!
We need another series so we can find out if Jack is still collecting episodes of The Simpsons. It's the biggest question the franchise needs to answer. Then we can learn about the Furlings.
I was thinking the same thing few years back. after watching the show on DAD for the.... i can't remember how many times. but i wrote a story on who the furlings are and SG1 knows them as the tollans. Oh one BIG question that needs to be answered is 'did Jack and Sam every get together and got married'
@@jamesjohnston1935 Same - The only problem I have with it being on Netflix is the TV-MA tag here in America because the nudity in the two-part pilot (even though it's not in any subsequent episodes), that and when you let it autoplay to the next episode, it cuts off about 30-45 seconds of whatever recap may be included. I binged it on Prime last year and none of that happened. The SG franchise seems to flipflop on-again/off-again on Prime so... yeah. I did manage to find the two direct-to-video movies on Tubi last month just after finishing another rewatch of SG-1 though.
I hope so too, especially with Amazon acquiring MGM. It would be really great if we can get something like SG-1 or Atlantis, wasn't a big fan of Universe personally.
Poor Corey Nemic seems to be the story of his life (coming on the established shows and having fans hate his character to the point they're written out), the same thing happened on "Supernatural". He played something like a cousin to Sam and Dean, through their mother, the fans hated the Campell family so much they were abruptly revealed to be passed by, or working with, demons and dispatched pretty fast.
@@SkyeMpuremagic I don't know, the official explanation was that Shanks (I think in his own words) was tied of doiding paper-mache rocks and wanted to do 'more serious' projects. The implications being that he didn't find a lot of 'serious' work and had to come back. It's actually kind of common but they rarely get the chance to come bask. In his defense, he, at least, seems to have a sense of honor about it because it was used in that episode they did about "Wormhole Extrem". There was a bit bout the actor who played the Jackson-ish character leaving the show and coming back. It was actually kind of amusing. :)
it might be because Jonas joined the team right as the show moved from the premium cable channel Showtime(which I didn't have) to the SciFi channel here in the US but I actually liked him (i liked Daniel MORE but i didn't HATE Jonas)
Love Shanks! Liked Nemec, but I had missed some episodes. Gosh knows why! So, for a long while, I just wondered when Daniel was coming back, + where the actual he’ll did he disappear to. I really liked Nemec when he played Harold Lauder from the original miniseries, “The Stand”.
Fact #11: Jack O'Neill's eyebrow scar came from an alternate dimension. At the end of the first season Jack begins appearing with a small part in his left eyebrow, the aftereffects of a scar. This had to be trimmed in with clippers by the makeup artist every episode because the actor loved the look. The particular episode when O'Neill gets that scar, however, was that alternate-reality episode at the end of Season 1.
Yeah, the looped day episode was fantastic. I simply can't get over the part when Teal'c and Jack decide to have fun with the resetting and Jack resigns for the sole purpose of being able to kiss Sam. Then, after fixing the loop, when asked by Daniel if he took advantage of the loop, Jack merely stares at Sam with the most subtle "hehehe" look I've ever seen. While I always liked Jack, that bit is what sealed the deal for me deciding he was my doppleganger in the show because that was something I would 100% do. You can even tell that Sam had no problem with it when it was happening by the way she hugs Jack as they kiss.
The casting on this show was just so excellent. I love the original cast as well as their replacements. I can’t think of another show I could say that about.
All I know is that I miss Stargate and I will never forgive MGM for what they did to it. People point the finger at syfy but MGM ultimately signed the BS contract with them in a form which made it impossible for the show to continue on syfy into the planned 11th season as well as legally bound the show from going to a different network or platform which apple tv was willing to do. Always read the f*cking contract! Guess that $$ made them short sighted. Then they killed Joe Flanigan and his investors attempts to lease the rights to stargate and continue it. Then they botched Stargate Universe and Stargate Origin horribly. Then to top it all off they have just sat on the franchise since. 😞
Origins was pretty good in it's own way but Stargate Universe was way too dark and nothing like the rest of the series. Universe was a big mistake much like Star Trek Discovery and Picard with their dark portrayal of a once great series.
Best episodes are the ones where O'Neill has the library of the ancients downloaded into his head. He becomes Super MacGuyver. It's great! Also, all of Universe was terrible.
Season 1 was slow but 2 was decent. One thing i don't think many think about is SGU was screwed from the start because it was filling the shoes of SG1- an impossible task
@@donaldmaroschek3120 It was filling the shoes of Atlantis, because this was reason why Atlantis was cancelled (yeah they wanted to make atlantis into movies, but even with movies people would be very angry and we do not get these movies after all)
Is this a first, tentative step towards "Gate Culture"? Oh I do hope so, I love Trek Culture but a Stargate version of that would be fricking awesome!!!!
I enjoyed the video, but, for there was just 2 new info, The glued fruit loops and the Jonas Quinn Schrödinger . ( Yes, I am a Stargate fan, just watched the hole show in Netflix ) ( and to be honest. I do not like the changes in the pilot, in my point of view it diminishes the Valtiare Bandera character, Sha"re )
i remember noticing the cross eyed ra in the beginning credits during the first season, then after a few times if seeing it i realized it was the lighting
Fun Fact: The original script for the movie was written by Omar Zuhdi. He found out they used his script when he saw it in the theater, and had to sue the studio to get paid for it.
Agreed, thats about the time the scifi channel turned into the syfy channel. When all good shows ended and all we got was crap like znation, zombies are cool but you never say zombie, they broke all sorts of rules after this
@@Midearth87 it did have a lot of stuff I wanted to see in a zombie flick, but they shouldn't have said zombie at all. That's the rule of zombie shows you don't break unless its bad in some way. Stoner prof, yes please but someome who is grey and immune to being butten no thanks, then the bad names like 10k, even the idea of him getting his normal name back after 10k kills sounds lame, since there's a lot more than 10k But at least it was watchable unlike....sharknado where they had to have the child molester jarded in every film
Ok, the cereal being glued to the spoon, that's just one of those little details that most people won't even notice, but once you know it, it just says a lot about the people who made it that they cared enough for that tiny detail to be there.
Usually when people say " things you never knew about ____ " I usually do know, but surprisingly I didn't know a lot of these even though stargate is my favorite series in the history of time!
I liked Jonas as a character and how the show handled him. I was really happy when Daniel finally returned to the team, but it's sad we didn't get to see more of Jonas aside from that one episode.
Habe mal gelesen, dass er einen Bootsunfall hatte auf dem Weg zu einem anderen Dreh....weiß nicht ob das vielleicht auch mit ein Grund ist....(Darsteller von Jonas)
I thought it was a good idea to give him super learning powers so that he doesn't slow sg1 down and can keep up without having to spend excess time training. Honestly it was a service to the viewers, and I don't understand the hate. Except if people irrationally hated him for indirectly killing Daniel Jackson.... which I agree sucks not having Daniel Jackson around but that's not a good reason to blame Jonas Quinn or hate him.
This is wild, I was watching Stargate S-G1 this morning. I use to watch this with my mom when I was really young and didn't know what the story was, but I knew I liked and loved that it got added to Netflix.
The best "fact" I heard was that most of the time Christopher Judge didn't read the script and just went with it just nodding, raising a eyebrow and keeping his Teal'c cool. I think I got it from an interview. Probably his revenge for being the only one having to wear makeup.
Did you know that one of the characters is actually McGyver making a new life for himself after constructing a time machine from a garbage bag, 2 iron screws and an empty can of coke?
I noticed it when rewatching, but I assumed Apophis wanted his Prime to be wearing powdered gold as a way to show off his "possessions". I mean think of how wealthy you'd look if even your prized slave had gold make-up.
@@derrickfoster644 but that wouldn't make any sense. Naquadah is a greenish-silver color that doesn't reflect light well. (Personal observations from watching the show intently).
Jonas was a great character and it was a shame he was written out, when Nirrti found something unusual about his DNA I always thought it was going to lead to him somehow being key to the survival of the Asgard.
They'd be stupid to not. I mean, have you ever seen a comment that said "I hated Stargate..." ?? It's all positive. and they have the money to make it, and recoup their costs plus...
"I lost my Son", The spot on comedic nature of the episode up until that point morphing into tragedy with the delivery of those four words was and is amazing. The looks on Sam and Daniel's faces were amazing. My jaw dropped and I squirted a tear. Show me an "emotional" moment done a 10th as well in new Trek and maybe I'll start giving it the respect (very few) people keep telling me it deserves. I've shown this to non Sci Fi fans and got them to deep dive on all 4 stars.
I just wish they will make SG series again, it was and it is one of the most memorable entertainment of my childhood. I was watching it right after Walker/MacGyver while my grandmother was knitting nearby ocassionaly glancing whats going on, specially when Jack or Tealc talked. Thank you for the show and memories to everyone participating.
You did well. I started watching the entire Stargate franchise over again when I began my treatment in 2009, watch them all about once a year. You actually listed a few changes of Children of the Gods that I didn't know about. Good job.
I honestly liked Jonas. He was a good man who was trying to do his best for his people. I get other Fan's resentment, but it wasn't fair. I love Stargate and will happily watch all the SEASONS of SG1, Atlantis, and Universe. (Just had to put the American term in their)
It's straight up bullshit, as filming scenes with replicators in the scene did not have any replicators while filming it. CGI magic at work. How does anyone believe stuff like that? :-D
This was/is my fave sci fi show ever. The humor was so damn good while the serious action and dramatic shows were some of the best. Man, I wish they would be back this Universe. ☺
After over a decade and a half of talking excitedly to blank faced, yawning and supposed sci-fi buff individuals about how awesome all of Stargate is, it's a huge relief to finally see it gaining some traction around the interwebs 😎😌
I watched this all during my childhood on sci fridays. I spent hundreds of dollars in quarter on area 51 at the arcade. I was in afjrotc in high school. The day I earned my security forces beret in the air force was the fulfillment of my dreams of standing in hallways at parade rest 12 hours a day.
Can someone please tell me what happens if you step into an incoming wormhole. Does it just spit you back out? Of course, I'm talking about after the big splash in the beginning of the incoming wormhole.
Having received the complete series as a gift from our son, my wife and I are nigh to the end of season 6 and (aside from a few too many earth bound episodes) and find it on equal footing with the rest of the first 8 seasons, to me the 9th and 10th feel like a very good spin off series rather than a continuation
It isn’t specifically Team America: World Police that 200 satirizes, though I’m sure that is what inspired them to partner with the same puppet production company. They are both satirizing the hyper-marination from the old series “Thunderbirds Are GO!”
As for the nudity, the first 5 seasons were on Showtime (pay cable) and when that network was ready to drop the show, the fledgling SyFy snapped it up. So it makes sense that a SyFy re-release would take that out.
Wait wait. You have TrekCulture and WhoCulture... but no GateCulture? This is a travesty! Trek and Who Culture are both awesome. I would watch GateCulture in a heartbeat (as long as no episode exceeds 38 minutes in length...)
I have said for years "My favorite grounded Sci-Fi show is Stargate SG-1 because it involves US Military exploring the universe. But for REAL Sci-Fi where its truly alien, FARSCAPE is it"! that show was so far out there and surreal, it felt like it could fly off the handle at any time and thats what made it so interesting and fun
They got the fact about the crossover movie half right. The original plan was to do a 3rd SG1 movie that centered around Jack and told the story of making the Stargate program public. At the same time there was going to be a Stargate Atlantis movie called Stargate Extinction that told the story of how Atlantis got back to the Pegasus Galaxy after landing on Earth in the final episode. At the time it was thought that it might also be possible to do a follow up movie or get a season 6 of Atlantis after Stargate Extinction. Unfortunately partly due to the recession and rise of streaming services both were canceled. When Stargate Universe was canceled Brad Wright started pushing hard to get one last movie that featured characters from all 3 shows for the purpose of tying up loose plot lines from the three series
Michael Shanks has already said in an interview that he was never blindfolded for the replicator scenes. He said the rumor was crazy because why would he be scared of something that was CG it was literally not there and any actual practical model didn't move and looked nothing like a spider
If anything, given that the entire gate system was designed by these imagined ancients & everything is coordinated to understanding that language... One could reasonably argue he was thee most important character out of the entire show.
@@SkyeMpuremagic He isn’t the only person in the universe to figure out the gate. Daniel was instrumental in doing so but he wasn’t essential to a military recon unit. Now definitely keep him employed at the SGC. IRL it would be stupid to send him and Carter out on dangerous missions and lose their expertise. The comeback is the base isn’t always 100% safe but its a ridiculous argument. It would be like saying Mario Andretti can drive over 100 mph safety why can’t I do it 😂.
