I am a 79 year old TKR at 10 week post op and these exercises came at the right time for me after finishing my pt. I have a 120+ bend with very little pain. My entire day is consumed with exercises and walking to ensure my TKR is a success. Thank you Samantha for showing us how. We only get out of it what we are prepared to put into it. (Australia)
Thanks for joining me!! Would love to have you in my exercise class as well. I developed an exercise program to help people improve their strength after their surgery. Here’s more info! www.succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class make sure to read the reviews!
Wow Dr Samantha. I’m 6 weeks PO and only 92 degrees and -18 degree knee extension . Not too happy with my range of motion at this point. I experience no pain and walk without a cane. Your session provided me more beneficial exercises than my PT has for me to do at home. It’s unfortunate you’re not in So Cal. Keep up the great work.
Hi Sam! I am 5 months PO LTKRevision and on my 14th week PO quad repair. My imbolizer brace came off on Sept 11th with ROM @120° which I can almost reach on my own. I am on a holding pattern with PT waiting to get approved for strengthening. These look totally do-able to begin to strengthen my quad and core. Thanks for all you do!
I am 7 weeks post op and have my last PT appointment tomorrow. So glad I found this video. I will start you routine ASAP. I am 82 and had 128 ROM as of last week. 😊 Feel I am doing great but would like to get stronger. Thanks! P. S. I had a hip replaced in March.
A few of these exercises were part of my PT list beginning at just 2 weeks post op. I was doing the sitting bend and scooting forward from the DAY after surgery!
Where were you when I needed you? So pleased to have found you-8wks post TkR; barely 110 bend 5 extension; swollen and have gone through manipulation -it’s the Surgeon that is demanding getting to the bend requirements, PT is trying to comply with their orders…. Insane - I’m inflamed, the knee is traumatized and swollen -
I’m 7 weeks postoperative on my 1st knee replacement. I had 2 weeks in-home PT and now have outpatient PT once a week. I have great range of motion, but my muscles need help. I’m going to try these exercises to help my quads & gluts so I can do even better on my 2nd knee replacement next year. I’m hoping these exercises will help with knee pain in my “good knee” & get me better prepared for the next surgery. Thank you.
Great video: You have managed to perform several exercises that I did in my 2 week inpatient therapy with a chair at home...well done..You also touched on some exercises that I performed in my Outpatient Therapy
Thank you very much for this great video. I am 5 months PO from my RTKR. I needed to see this to get me back and motivated to do more exercises at home. Bad me, I became a little bit if a slacker....I should know better since this is my second TKR.... You have me so ready to get back to these exercises more often on a daily routine again.. Thank you.
So glad you were able to find some motivation to get started again. That is the hardest part is starting the exercises. I’ll be putting out more short exercise classes on RU-vid soon. But I hope to see you in the four week exercise class🙂🙂 succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class
Thank you for all of your knowledge on these exercises. I am 3 months po. I am having pain/ discomfort in the band, middle of calf to ankle when doing the bending of the knee. I do ice several times a day and walking and other exercises a few times a day. When will the pain in calf go away?
I have a citz behind my knee my knee replacement was 3-8-2024 , my calf n behind my knee n ankle is keeping me from bending my knee it’s very painful. What can I do for this
I m at 4 months post knee..I have great extension and 135 degree bending but still have a lot of stiffness when I bend..going to try your work out..my second knee in a month!
I have pain on the outside of the knee of the operated knee with tightness. Also driving is quite painful but is relieved by stopping and standing and walking for a minute or so. How can I help myself. 9 weeks post op
Hi Dr Samantha! I have a question/problem. I had surgery to replace the plastic insert on 11/9/23. My insurance doesn’t cover a physical therapist in my area.. I’d have to drive 2 hours away. Since the surgery, I can’t extend my lower leg. It’s like the signal is not getting through. I could lift my straight leg and extend it while the nerve block was still effective, but as it wore off, it got increasingly difficult and painful.. within about 20 hours, I can’t move it at all. It is very painful on the inside front of my knee… it burns if I try to engage it. What can I do?! I’m really scared! I’m a very active person. It also hurts/burns to bend it. Please help!! I’m desperate. Thank you! God bless.
Yes it’s normal. They make an incision in the quad muscle to replace that plastic insert. The seated kicks are not easy for that reason. I usually do not have my patients attempt them for several weeks because it could compromise the incision and stitching in the quad. I actually did a post on Instagram about this topic. There are some exercise ideas on there for you. Feel free to email me if you need any extra assistance drsam@succeedcourses.com Here’s my instagram: instagram.com/drsamsmithpt?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
It's one year after my tkr and my knee is not fully bending would doing the exercises help with the bending i still have some swelling and. a little pain in the knee ? 12.00 noon
Yes! You’ll want to stretch the knee but also work on your hamstring strength. I cover all of this in my exercise class. Next class starts October 29th! succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class
I assume you will have some very thick scar tissue that might limit your progress. There are some surgical procedures you can do to remove the scar tissue. I’d recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon.
