Izotope Never disappoints, whether It is Plugins or Tutorial/Videos.

If there's one plugin that will never ever ever leave my monitoring chain, it's gotta be Tonal Balance Control and Insight. Don't get me wrong, we should still use our ears and sometimes break rules in order to elevate the artist's vision, but not all of us have properly isolated rooms to mix with, especially me as a beginner, so having a tool to reference to, that gives you solid and unbiased information to work with, it really elevated my mixes to a different level, rather than buying another compressor or eq plugin.

This is excellent for a beginner engineer. My ears are pretty good and I know when I don't like the mix but these "small" tips providing some general guidelines will save me a lot of time that I would otherwise have spent "learning the hard way". Thanks iZotope.

love taking in this kind of training because I either A) review a key basic or B) realize I've been missing a huge puzzle piece izotope content been really helping NICU move our album forward right now as a full-indie production where I'm songwriting, playing, mixing and mastering all myself in the home studio. appreciate this wealth of awesome info, it makes a big difference to me :)

hmmm. in terms of "too much processing", I followed one of your prior videos (mixing from start to finish), and added relays on every track in order to handle this in the visual mixer (on master track). However, when I want to use neutron for track enhancing (on for example piano bus, drum bus, etc), I get also the neutron 3 (which enhanced my track) in the visual mixer on the master track. I totally changes my mix. Am I doing something wrong?

This is interesting. I have Nectar Pro and the trial version of Nectar 3 PIus. I did the vocal assistant with both and got two different vocals chains. To my curiosity, I did it a second time and the same thing happened. Two different vocal chains. My question is this. What’s difference between Nector Pro and Nectar 3 Plus and why do I get different settings from vocal assistant in each one?

My favorite go to trap has always been (and sometimes still is) an everything at once approach. I always have to restrain myself. Don’t mix while recording! Don’t master while mixing! And vice versa.
@petermsull

Actually you *did* miss a fairly big one: monitoring too loudly.
@JulianPackardMusic
@JulianPackardMusic 3 года назад
Yes! That is a huge issue. You should apparently be able to have a normal-voiced conversation in a room, and not let your music be louder than that convo.
@petermsull
@petermsull 3 года назад
@@JulianPackardMusic Indeed. Volume is all too often used as a crutch for 'forced' excitement. A huge rookie mistake.

In mixing for film we often drop to 82 or even 79dB. Ear fatigue *is* real and ruins many a mix!
@JulianPackardMusic
@JulianPackardMusic 3 года назад
@@petermsull Oh wow, for sure... I hate ear fatigue. I don't even have a dB meter (which I should totally invest in one), but yeah, I'm sure it is good to drop dB.

In the video you called the plug-ins “Pro”…Neoverb Pro, Tonal Balance Pro, Neutron Pro. Are these plug-ins a more professional version of Neoverb, Tonal Balance, and Neutron 3? Because I own all 3 plug-ins but they don’t have the name “Pro” attached to them. So I’m confused. Are there 2 versions of the plug-ins - i.e. Neoverb and Neoverb Pro? If so, then how can I purchase the Pro versions? If there aren’t, then labeling it like that (Pro) is confusing to beginners like myself.
@finnslehrreichelehrvideos213
The Pro version is the subscription model while the normal ones are one time buy options

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nbBq8-ihTuY.html&feature=share&t=6m03s About the gain staging exercises your suggesting (6m03s), where all faders are down: in my education, teachers told me to always leave your faders at 0dBFS, and gain stage with gain plug-in or the gain of the plug-in itself, maintain a RMS of -18dBFS (standard for analog plugins, or plugins that emulate analog gear), and never do this with the faders, because a signal that is too hot, will affect how your plugins react (e.g. compression), and the resolution of your faders is different between -12db and 0dBFS and -60dBFS and -30dBFS! ‘Use your faders for automation, never for gain staging”. Loving izotope, and maybe missing the point of this exercise, could you clarify why your suggesting this exercise? Thx.

Proud to say I made none of these mistakes. What I would add is not saving a 'ground zero' version to revert to if needed

I dont agree you need pre-made blueprint. This kills the spirit of improvisation and keeps you limited. You can have some conceptual scaffolding that would help rather than impede your true deep creativity
@nihil-baxter

As several people already commented: "not mixing in mono" is by far the biggest mistake you can make
@BigStereoVR
@BigStereoVR 2 года назад
Why the blanket statement on reverb? To create a psychoacoustic environment, you do require reverb and delay on everything using inverse square in your "blueprint". Sure you need to sell a product, but the advice given is shocking given who the boss is.

The building analogy isn't quite right. With mixing, you're also looking to create 'painter's accidents' on the mixing journey, which isn't practical if you're building a house which has all manner of compulsory stipulations like plans, building regulations.
