I just saw this for the first time today 11/25/22 and as a former US Army Survival/Escape/Evasion Trainer, I really appreciate your brevity. You get to the point and don't talk about yourself like you are some survival god and it's all about you. Excellent training thanks.

Early 1980s I had a pilot survival knife. One day, I was the RSO for a night TOW missile live fire range. Next morning, while cleaning up the range, I wrapped about 100 feet of tow wire around the handle and secured it with 100MPH tape. I later exchanged the tape for an inner tube and had that knife for another 25 years. I used the wire a couple times to set up snares but never caught anything. The wire was so fine it was hard to work with.

Excellent TTPs for individual survival today Andrew! The “Yeti” is a new one for me, and an excellent idea for field expedient camouflage… that’s going in my tool kit! The Aviation Survival Knife was one of my first fixed knives on my LBE (read, ALICE LC-2 gear) waaay back in the day until I upgraded. Still have a fondness of that model, maybe it’s nostalgia! Keep up the Fire!

upgraded to what?
@johnkline5930
@johnkline5930 2 года назад
@@NikosKatsikanis oh, various phases… Ka-Bar, Glock Field Knife, and finally when they told us no more fixed blades except for bayonets then folders became a thing before multi-tools… the Gerber Gator was a popular folding knife. Tough and not so expensive to cry about it if you lost it… maybe upgrade was a poor choice in wording… I never had the money to invest in say something like a Randall custom knife.
@Minuteman_Expeditions-wo2cp
@Minuteman_Expeditions-wo2cp 2 года назад
@@johnkline5930 I bought a Gerber Gator on active duty too, in combat training at the PX. Upgraded to a Buck full tang fixed blade when my Gerber Gator hinge went to peices on me. I still have that Buck as a keepsake in my footlocker, twenty years later. As a Marine I have several Kabar knives in my collection now (WW2, etc) but I never carried a Kabar on active duty, or even remember a time in the woods or rivers afterwards with a Kabar. There's so much better choices now. If you can only have a bayonet then I highly recommend one of the new USMC bayonets that are half Kabar/half bayonet

I knew a Ranger back in 1979 who only carried the Pilot Knife you used here. He said it was his favorite because “it isn’t expensive, it can be bought just about anywhere, and it’s as tough as nails”. I’ve had many of them (still have two). I give them to friends and family who are just starting out in the wilderness/survival arena.

Your video about the survival knife was informative. In 1960 I received a Navy pilot’s knife from my uncle who was a Commander. I had it in Cambodia in 1971 and on numerous patrols and camping trips. You are quite correct in saying that there are better options now but this knife has gotten me out of several scrapes and has earned its place on my belt. My dad borrowed it on a fishing trip and was about to be caught in a storm. They had broken a shear pin on their boat and the only spares were oversized. He used the saw blade to file down the shear pin and got back before the storm. I still take the knife out on hikes and remember my dad. Thanks for the video.

If you're in a real evade and escape situation, make sure you don't leave freshly cut sapling stumps sticking way up. Cut them as close to the ground as possible and maybe even cover it with a piece of moss, or something else from that immediate area that looks natural.
