Those are some handy tips, and here's one more for you: DIY pegboard hooks. Take steel wire (old clothes hangars or even stock from pkg stores), cut to length with wire cutters or hacksaw, and bend around pipes/cans/dowels/etc. to get the diameter you want, then bend the ends over with a vise grips or even a vise. (The ends are what goes into the pegboard holes.) If you have an assortment of various pegboard hooks already, they make good patterns for making more. For hooks for lightweight items, you can also use scraps of heavy gauge wiring; they're soft copper inside, so they won't hold a lot of weight, but there are always plenty light items lying around, usually taking up valuable space in drawers.
Is the top board of your workbench thick enough to add some holes for bench dogs? If so, I would add a grid of bench dog holes. They are so great for so many purposes.
