At first that Superman story seemed wildly out of character and laughable in its conception, then I saw the words “Writer: Chuck Austen” and everything became instantly clear.

Mia as HIV Positive and Speedy as a junkie were not "awkward." They were two of the most important storylines in Green Arrow's entire continuity. And, at the time, they were both brave and brilliant.
The speedy thing wasn’t brave. They did this after a Spider-Man comic about drug use sold well because of its anti drug message. They were just trying to profit off of anti drug messages.
I read Kyle's tenure as the Green Lantern, what Jade did to him was straight up evil. She even took his apartment, he was homeless, Kyle left John in his place in the Justice League so he had no place in there either. He did so much for the Corps, he just revived Oa and the Guardians, that's why I think he is the best.
@@tyrant-den884 Kyle was Ion, more powerful than Superman, he had the powers of a God. He didn't need back up, he could've create thousands of Lantern ring with his own, but it was his journey. Jade cheated and years later got angry with Kyle because he moved on with Soranik. To me Kyle was totally relatable, just a guy with a ring, an artist that like anime and having a good time. He, Wally and Connor was quite the trio, there is still people who prefer that incarnation, me included.

What's worse is that he relapsed later on. After he had his arm cut off. And his daughter was killed. And he started halucinating her ghost haunting him. .... Can we go back to the silver age now? Those times were fun!
When Adam Beechen took over writing Robin. He didn't know anything about Cassandra Caine. She was an assassin who used to be a member of the Bat Family. But left at the end of her series. After all the hate from corrupting a fan favorite. When he took over Batman Beyond. He learned everything he could about that universe. Thus his run on Batman Beyond is great.
Wow. No research? I heard it came down from Editorial. No choice in the matter. Either way it was a shitty thing to do. I guess he decided to research Batman Beyond.
3:05 "Murder" is a bit over the top here. She wanted to use the suit's ability to shrink down and travel using the telephone signals, unfortunately she wasn't as good at using it as the atom and ended up landing inside Sues brain, upon realizing what she had done she thought Ralph would never forgive her and faked a superhuman attack on Sue by burning her body, then she faked an attack on herself by hanging a noose at a door and resizing herself to fit the noose. Ralph quits being a superhero before eventually helping the Sinister Six with a place to live, eventually finding out that Sue is alive but doesn't remember him and she's marrying the bad guy of the story, in the end she leaves and is never seen again with Ralph vowing to look for her. First raped by Dr. Light then killed in her home, Poor Sue, and poor Ralph...
An awkward moment in a Chuck Austen comic? NEVER! That's like having Angel in his later 20's and his 18 year old girlfriend Husk getting it on while flying right above her mother... Oh. Wait.

What about that time in Forever Evil #7 where they had to free the JL from inside Firestorm and they had to use the lasso of Wonder Woman but you had to have a strong emotional connection to Wonder Woman like Steve Trevor to use it. So Batman takes it and says he can use it because hes known Wonder Woman for a long time then Catwoman asks Batman is that it? Then out of the blue Owlman attacks cutting off the conversation and this is never brought up again or paid off 🤷🏿♂️
Interesting fact about me: It was the issue of Identity Crisis where they re-enacted Sue Dibney's rape at the hands of Dr. Light that made me quit D.C. comics.
Good for you; Their are some stories that dont need to be told and can have the same motivating punch without falling back on the tropes of sexual assualt.
@@OmegaShenronDragon I don’t know anyone who considers the story as “highly regarded.” It’s horrifyingly misogynistic, as well as completely illogical.
@@denisesudell2538 don't get me wrong I agree with that because some bits could be stepped up. If they re did that in a way that doesn't have many holes & misogyny it would be great.
8:41 _"Despite the fact that Lois had nothing but good intentions..."_ Yeah, sure. Same thing can be said of any meddler. That's why the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" never gets old.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" never gets old because like most similar cliches, it applies often enough to stay in use, while _NOT_ applying most of the time to any given situation.
@@Dorian-_-Gray False. The road to hell is indeed, paved with good intentions. The only cases where that may not apply is in undeniably rare cases where people do bad things with bad reasoning and bad intentions. You're not only wrong, you're also stupid.
Mike Dubo remember during the marvel ultimatum series how blob FUCKING ATE THE WASP?!? Yeah....marvel is really fucked up, not even gonna talk about the time Gwen Stacy got knocked up by the green goblin btw
@@Gking0906 Oh, and who can forget DC's tasteless death of one Kyle Rayner's girlfriends, which led to the creation of the term "Women in Refrigerators"?
How do you have two different Green Lantern entries, one for Hal, one for Kyle, one of which involved cheating, and you DON'T have the time Carol broke up with Hal because she realized she had a thing for Kyle.
Sorry, but the most awkward moment in DC history for me was discovering a secret cabal within the JLA dedicated to mind raping supervillains into softcore slavery. Everything else pales next to that. Makes Mark Waid's JLA Babel storyline look a lot different after this little tidbit, doesn't it?
If you consider writers introducing a new tone and new elements to old stories to be "discovering" them... It was never really a problem for the Justice League to erase memories back when it was kids' stories. It was a choice by Meltzer to decide to treat that "seriously" (really, morbidly and self-importantly), and an editorial decision to let him.
I like to think that #10 is awkward because PowerGirl had lewd intentions towards Wonder Woman. Pretty sure this was the reason it got inserted on this list anyway lol EDIT to include the link: i.pinimg.com/736x/f5/82/81/f58281c1c10615804c43868d71b18601.jpg
These are hardly the most awkward moments, but they are good and memorable. Especially the Lois outing Superman like that. Poor Clark/Superman couldn't go anywhere without getting insulted or threatened after that.
y'all keep forgetting that DC in the 1900s (like thick line art with cross hatches and dots era, yeah that early) a villain hypnotized superman into doing a porno and he snapped out of the trance mid-way and left the studio
@@dragonflamexdoom3952 really? Cause I find it hard to believe. I've never heard of him ever doing that. Who was it if he really did do it? Was it Lana?
I don`t think the batgirl(Cassandra) one should be here. that should be in another list call something line "10 times complete A-hole writers ruin a character because they were lazy and did a 5-minute google search instead of spending some time learning the character they are going to write about for their job."
the person who wrote that Superman story reminds me of the type of garbage stories that are written and drawn now in Marvel, i wonder if there is a connection?

Nightwing (original robin) had sex with Oracle (original batgirl) and then DURING AFTERGLOW gives her the invitation to his own wedding to Starfire.. how is that not included?
Roy Harper was found "smack dab" in a drug dealer's home. Haha, "smack" (a.k.a. heroin). Also, how Ollie "smacks" Roy around. This whole thing smacks of unintentional puns.
Ollie calls Speedy a junkie in a pejorative way. Yeah, comics of the times and all that but still, don't help stigmatize drug use and addiction by using "Speedy is a junkie" as one of your bullet points. He has addiction issues. Words matter sometimes. A small deal to you, bit of a slap to those who have lived recovery.
Wonder Woman was pretty good. Aqua man wasn't too bad. Sure Shazam, Justice League: DOJ, Suicide Squad, and Birds of Prey sucked. There is still hope though. Honestly wouldn't be too upset if they scrapped it all and started over. Be a good chance to fix all those awful casting choices.... and come up with better stories.
@@richelmartina1172 Not to mention it being an addiction to an earlier version of the same Venom-stuff Bane used when he was introduced later. (Assuming you are both talking about the 'Venom' story by Denny O'Neill).
How about every time a male character gets sexually assaulted/raped by a woman and it's just brushed off? Like, Green Arrow had himself forced upon by Shado, and not only did Dinah dump him for this, he actually got retconned into being a womaniser (TO THE POINT where the original rape scene WAS RETCONNED INTO A CONSENSUAL ENCOUNTER)? And Nightwing had a shapeshifter sleep with him while disguised into his girlfriend (who he was VERY committed to -at least until DC decided to pander to the B:TAS fans that shipped DickBabs- ). When the deception was revealed, the entire Teen Titans slut-shamed him and called him a cheater, and his rapist cheerfully taunted him for not being able to tell the difference between them, and never got so much as got a slap on the wrist (Starfire DID attack her, but that was only because she was the so-called "Other Woman"). AND THEN (and this is the kicker) the rapist was herself assaulted, and what did the Titans do? FLOCK TO HER WITH SYMPATHIES! Talk about Double Standards! And that's not even getting started on Devin "Not Rape, Just Non-consensual" Grayson's BS Nightwing Story Arc... >_
There was a nice issue of Teen Titans involving it though. Mia felt ashamed and didn't want to tell the team but when the Titans found out they were nothing but supportive and comforting, understanding how hard it must be for her.
Hal encountered himself as Parallax. Parallax knew Hal would appear. This happened AFTER his sacrifice. So Parallax knew his fate. So Parallax, Hal and Kyle all had to work together to return each person to their respective times. To make sure they didn’t change their fate, Parallax and Hal had their memories modified so they wouldn’t remember these events.
time paradox time brought to you by the department of redundancy department! past hal in the present may have found out his future would be to host parallax, but past parallax in the present wiped past hal's present memories before sending him back into the past. so does he know? yeah sure, for days within confines of a closed timeloop.
