Actually, his contract was only really bad for the first year or two. The amount he got paid or was guaranteed decreased year by year. After 2016, he has no guaranteed money.
Im so glad someone finally said this, Us cards were trying so hard to sign him and I said we'd regret it. Im glad we didn't sign him. Now that's the cubs burden for years to come.
Who do you think is the most overpaid athlete in sports? Any other Sports lists you want us to do? Let us know in the comment section and we will credit you in the video if your idea is picked.
Bears fan here, I like Smokin Jay but I was expecting to see him here. Luck does have a fat contract but he is a great qb that is clutch, so idk if i'd put him on here
What...... WAYNE Rooney ? Man Utd and England Captain......all time England goal scorer and 4 goals away from being the all time Utd scorer - both records that have stood for over 40 yrs? Wayne Rooney with 5 league titles, 1 FA cup and a CL medal..........that Wayne Rooney? I know a guy called Arsene Wenger who earns 8 million a year, and he doesnt even kick a football, and he hasnt won a league in 12 years!!!!! Apparently he doesnt want to break his tight wage structure (apart from him of course), so they never buy any top quality players or pay them a competitive wage!!!! Go figure.
Utd 4 the league Utd 4 the league Wenger's not an athlete and Rooney used to be amazing however he's now benched so he doesn't deserve the money he gets. Also Alexis and Ozil aren't top quality players.
I agree that every athlete on this list is overpaid, but Pujols and Phaneuf have put up respectable numbers for really bad teams. If these players were on contenders their numbers would probably be better.
I can't believe you didn't have Joe Mauer on the list. After his 2009 MVP season, the Twins gave him an 8 yr $184 million contract. Now they are paying $23 million/yr and getting a guy batting .221. Last year he played 134 games and ended with .261 ave, 11 HRs & 49 RBIs. The Twins were dumb enough to give him a no trade clause. They are stuck with him until the contract is up.
The Lions did the same exact thing in 1995 with Scott Mitchell. He was the Dolphin's backup QB, and when Marino went down, he started and played fairly well in 8 or 9 games. The Lions signed him in the off-season to a huge contract, and he played sub-par for most of his time there, costing Barry Sanders a chance at ever winning a Super Bowl. Sorry J.J. Watt, I hope you have better fortune.
I don't think Price is washed up yet. It was obvious that he was struggling on the Red Sox's mound at the beginning of the season, but he did fine on the road. He then went on a 7 or 8 game win streak. In the playoffs, he did have a bad start, but our offense put up 0. You can't win anything like that against a team that finds itself in the World Series right now. Price may not have the Cy Young-esque power in him anymore, but that doesn't make him an overpaid pitcher.
Bruh, you gotta do Top Ten Heartbroken Fan Bases. Have it spotlight the NFL teams over the years who have had the worst luck or worst runs of success. I'm probably biased because I'm a Raiders fan who was only 10 the last time they were successful.
I'm hoping Pujols comes back for one last season at the end of his contract to retire as a Cardinal. He is clearly a Cardinal at heart and never should have left us, but I don't blame him considering how much money the Angels are giving him.
Agreed on osweiler. I live in Houston, and people told me all the time that he would lead them to a SB. I told them what they said in the video, and they double guessed me. Guess who has the last laugh ;)
For many years us Texans were desperate for a franchise qb. And Brock at the time seemed like the best choice. But it just goes to show that one makes poor decisions when they're desperate
he is over paid at this point, but holy crap, Revis might be the best cornerback Ever. In his prime, he shut down everyone! It really is a shame watching truly skilled athletes getting old...
Where's Dez Bryant in 2015 after Demarco Murray departed Dallas for Philadelpia Dez Bryant signed a 5 year deal with the Cowboys for $70 million dollars and he's struggled to stay healthy, and he is also very inconsistent at times, dropping a lot of passes and turning the ball over alot.
Revis's would be better if it was short term. I wouldn't say that Flacco should be on Top 10 of all sports. Why? Because before Flacco, the Ravens QB's were pure trash, and well... Super Bowl. 25 other teams would love to have a super bowl winning qb.
How is Ryan tannehill not on this list at all? He has to be the most average quarterback in the league now, and his contract says elite. Which he's not.
Joe Flacco may be paid a lot, but he's not overpaid. The thing is that the Ravens have an AWFUL offense. The Ravens only have good wide receivers when they are old and out of their prime. (Steve Smith, Derrick Mason) And the Ravens are a primarily SMASHMOUTH team, which relies on a running game more than a passing game.
Joe Mauer. He receives about twice as much as the next highest paid Twin and hasn't led the team in any offensive categories in a couple years. He's never had much power or clutch hitting ability and is hurt fairly often. Plus. The Twins pissed away an entire outfield, Carlos Gomez, Ben Revere, and Denard Span in order to funnel money to Mauer and it looks like they are going to piss away Brian Dozier as well and for the same reason.
