I vastly disagree with your interpretation of the rocksmith DLC... ALL of it together is worth a lot yes, but no one is ever going to actually buy all of that stuff, and the song "packs" in general, are not priced particularly high... they have simply released THAT much DLC in order to cater to a wider audience... what good is a music game if it only caters to one style of music, some love punk, some love heavy metal, some love soft rock etc... If you had to buy it all in one go for 6k+ THEN i could understand... but you're rating DLC PACKS not whole collections of DLC packs. And as you stated... the game is over 6 years old... so yes there is going to be a LOT of DLC created over that space of time... i'm betting if Guitar Hero/Rockband were still going, all of their DLC would come to a LOT more, would you have complained about all of theirs too? Come on Whatculture... you're usually better than this, but your last couple of videos have been rather ill-informed or clutching at straws on some points to fill out the lists.
The Sims. Expansion Packs, Stuff Packs. It goes on and on. Evolve. With it's expansion pass not covering all the DLC avaliable, with it being $75+ all together.
Proceeds to put skins on the list multiple times lol! So many logic holes as well. Totally ok for Cities Skylines to have stupid amounts of dlc because it is more commercial but Rocksmith and Train Simulator are too niche to be so bold as to support their games for more than 5 years.
Rocksmith should not be on here. It’s more of a educational tool then a game, & people want to learn how to play some of there favorite songs. Those songs need to be licensed & royalties have to be paid so you have to charge for the DLC. It would suck if they didn’t continually add new songs. It’s just like buying music from iTunes or something like that.
Not to mention, though never played rocksmith so could be wrong, but isn't the point of like 5000 songs you can download is that, while not everyone will get every song, there should be a few songs you want, it's to give everyone a chance for least one of their favorites in theory.
wolf wing yeah pretty much. They would even take requests from players & try to get the most requested songs and artists. Sometimes they couldn’t get them though because the artists didn’t approve it they would never stop trying though. They would constantly go back and ask again and sometimes it would pay off, some artists would agree right away, and some never did. It was a lot of work & they did it for the people using Rocksmith. Ubisoft wouldn’t have seen much of a profit from it because of the royalties.
Omg, the horse armor wasn’t bad at all. It’s increased the health of the horse and it was $2.50p. The new outfits for mass effect 2 cost more and did nothing but look cool.
One thing about Rocksmith that you're overlooking is that you can buy those song packs as a whole or individually. If you look at the total price of the DLC you're basically buying every song twice.
Rocksmith: Bothers to license and release loads of songs so you can pick and choose your favorite ones. Everyone has favorite songs and each of those has to be licensed for use and integrated into the game. They can only feasibly fit so many songs in the game and still make a profit, so they release other songs as DLC. This gives everyone a chance to pick and choose their favorite songs without purchasing everything at once. I can't believe I have to explain this.

If you think Star Trek Online is a rip-off, then you should check out the mobile app Star Trek Fleet Commander. Most every item on the store page is $100 and if you are trying to buy these packs to unlock a new ship then you usually have to buy TWO of these $100 packs!

I think any world of X could fit in there, especially when they sell you like a 40$ ship, but charge you 80 for all of the extras it comes with that you likly don't want.

3.38 the Rocksmith songs (and any other musical game) DLC is justified as the publisher doesnt own the songs, they cant give them away for free just because their game is old nor bundle them on a discounted all-in-one pack. Plus you are right in that you arent supposed to buy them all, or do you buy every single record thats released every year?
am I missing something about rocksmith? To me the whole point of the guitar hero/rockband/rocksmith dlc isn't to buy every single song, but they have so many songs, because most people should find a few songs they like, or wish was in the main game. i bought some for rockband but only like 4-5 songs I really loved.,
This is just my personal opinion BUT if you have a game where the total of additional songs boils down to 6000 dollars, you did something wrong. Either you simply have too many songs in them OOOR you should reconsider how to price them for the player.
The music thing doesn't belong on this list at all. First off, as actually stated in the video, yea; you're not meant to buy every song. But more importantly, unlike with things 600 different costumes for characters, it's just NOT financially viable for them to give you all those songs because they have to pay licensing fees for them. They had to buy rights for every song on those games; and obviously they had to recoup those costs in the price of the game. That means that if they gave you 600 extra songs? They'd probably have to charge you 2 or 3 times as much for the game; just so that you could have a bunch of songs that you probably hate and never want to play. By selling them individually as DLC, you can pay for the type of music that you actually like to listen to.
Putting Rocksmith here is just idiotic, you aren't supposed to buy all of the songs. Do you have any idea how long it would take to learn that many songs? The sun would burn out and you'd be about halfway through. You're mindlessly attacking things you don't understand.
People seem to forget that Metal Gear 4 online part of the game you had to pay for a second save slot and that's when the main man was still there so that's even worse than metal gear poke stick.
Horse armor wasn’t a bust because it was cosmetic (it wasn’t, it actually gave your horses more survivability... )what made it a farce is that unlike the other dlc it would cause crashes left and right
The rocksmith criticism is really unfounded as the majority of the prices for songs go to the songs publishers for a digital copy of the song as well as a license to essentially publish a copy of the sheet music for each song. Believe it or not, officially licensed sheet music gets expensive fast.
When will the producers at WhatCulture start providing some coaching on how to pronounce certain words and titles? I don't blame presenters for not knowing how to say words and names they've probably not heard out loud, but I do blame the folks in charge, for allowing their presenters to make fools of themselves and impeach their own credibility, and that of the channel, through easily avoided mistakes.
I knew the OG horse armor would be on here. But, I refused to pay 2.50 for some dumb armor. Those were the good all days where that's all we could complain about.
Civilization, espeically Civ6. Base game is £50 on Steam with nearly £100 of extras, so nearly twice the price of the game itself to get the missing content. According to reviewers, some of the most OP generals (teams) are part of these extras, so essentially you are buying an easy mode.
How come everybody forgets the 1 million dollar Saint's Row DLC? Not even an honorable mention? Edit: Not mention a $100 DLC from Advanced Warfare, some of which I think became free like the Atlas skin (I think that 1 of the things.)

I don't know if this would count as DLC packs since there are many dlc for this game/app on pc and you don't need every single one of them to play. It's called Fantasy Grounds. Think of it like table top rpg's but you can host them over the internet. Last time I checked there was over 1,600 DLC and over $10,000 total. It has different rpg titles you can play.
Any Koei Tecmo games should filled the list : 250 euros for DOA 5's skins and character pass. (120 euros at the moment for Fairy Tail for skin and season pass not including extra characters)
And the fact that you can get the game as well as all other DLCs for about $16, about two dollars mare than the base game, makes this entry fall a bit short.
You should make a new video and title it: "Overpriced dlcs that were suppose to add to the games story/replay-ability but failed to deliver". Stacking individual songs or trains into a pile and saying this dlc costs 7k is insane thinking. Dlc generally means one purchase, not 40 different minor game adding cars or cosmetics stacked up. Bring Jules back more often please.
Sims 4 stuff packs because they took out stuff and sold it back to you , civ 6 expansions because they allow special privileges that are basically pay to win in multiplayer, and Fallout 76 everything because they basically sell the thing you originally paid for for twice the price
5:04 $2000 for a car that can drive you to the locations? Not in America. $2000 will get you a 150k+ car that will break down on you every month and won’t be able to take a road trip without breaking down.

There is a huge issue with the Total DLC prices listed for games like Rocksmith or Train Sim: That total Value is inflated by having packs and bundles in there. I.e. Locomotives are available on their own, but they also might come bundled with a track DLC. The individual Locomotive is there as a separate DLC for people that aren't interested in the Track they come packaged in. Same thing with Rocksmith. They have each Song individually on there, but they also offer usually Band based bundles with multiple (all?) Songs of a Band available at a lower cost for people that are interested in most or all Songs of a Band anyway. In a sense it's a pro-consumer move what they are doing.
I feel like Crusader Kings 2 should be on this list. being free to play yet having over $300 in DLC, much of which are core game features hidden behind paywalls, is rather excessive.
Well given the fact that Train Sim World 2 incorporates all the 2020 DLCs, I guess you didn't exactly read that far into it. Also, it's not required for you to buy any of the DLC to enjoy the game fully. There are just tons of different engines and routes for people that like specifics and others the same.

I don't think Rocksmith is trying to shill with its DLC. It is all licenced music and very few people would want to learn or own every song. You can't male a game like that and have a single Guitar Hero sized catalogue.
Alright, but aren't some of the Song Packs in Rocksmith compilations that contain a lot of the other songs that are offered as individual purchases as well? So while technically true that Rocksmith has DLC worth a lot of money you aren't meant to buy them separately (unless you only want one song from a Song Pack). Was this taken to consideration when doing your research? Ubisoft or not, let's keep facts as facts, you know.
I love train simulator but it is indeed expensive as hell, I got it on discount, and I have certain locos on wishlist, till the next big discount, fingers crossed, I bought Oblivion game of the year edition also on discount, it came with the horse thing included, I never thought much of it, didn't know it was such an icon of discord.
rocksmith charges a couple dollars to teach you how to play a real song they have to license, the game comes with a bunch. Its easily worth it if you buy songs you wanna learn
Yall missed civ 6 pay 60$ dollars for the game and another 70$ dlcs (Gathering Storm and Rise and Fall) to actually unlock the game mechanics and make the ai to have some level of intelligence and stop declaring war on you for existing
What about ark dlc material? I know it's not overpriced by how much content is added by purchasing a dlc, but some of them are even free! not bad at least for me.
I’m that guy who has bought all the dlc for cities skylines and I must say the dlc is unbelievable and makes the game so much better. But I think the best one to start with is green cities. But I only get them on sale cause £10 is a rip off
All DLC is a scam. Youre paying for content that should be included in an 80$ game. If you buy DLC then youre part of the problem and have no right to bitch about DLC.
I don't think the horse armor was such a big deal, for an immersive rpg, also dont forget the 10 or so dlc they released for Oblivion, now we're lucky if games release 3 mediocre dlc
