Boy oh boy, how odd. Today I will be getting a bicycle motor controller and a brushless lawnmower motor, both from Ebay. Have been playing with the idea of powering my kayak for the last 20 years. Started out with a gas powered leaf blower (got some laughs). Then tried a small gas powered water pump. That work ok but was not self priming and the motor compression was high enough to make starting hard. The string trimmer worked the best. Hard to find a good prop then and the trimmer clutch would get very hot. That issue was addressed by making a small scoop to plumb water through a tube and spray the clutch shell. As a d.y.i. guy, all that stuff was part of the fun. Being younger, paddling 5 to 10 miles was not a problem and would not involve 'break-downs' Now at 75, d.i.y. shop time is enjoyed more than the outdoor adventure. In addition to the parts I made mention of, last night on Ebay I came across the same system that you are using, likely that will be delivered by 8/9. My current craft is a Sea Eagle 385. Much lighter than my previous Ocean Kayaks. Amazing how ideas just float around and get picked up by different people. For many years it has seemed that ideas 'move about' like radio signals. For some of us, they are just pulled out of thin air. Once I get my homemade unit going, I will sell my Bixpy setup as I have used it only once. Works fine, go figure.
Thats Rad! im glad i inspired you. I looked into a small gas motor also. They wouldnt ship it to my wonderful State. Everything is illegal in California including two stroke motors.
I have a canoe with an electric outboard mini motor.... I am also an rc enthusiast.... Every time I go sailing I wonder why I still havent made a remote steering option... lol
