Have you played Commodore 64? That was my childhood computer, apparently people still homebrew for it and the amount of power they managed to pull out of it at this point is insane.
I would also say avoid most of the European MSX games since the vast majority of them are direct ZX Spectrum ports that still keep the ZX Spectrum graphics.
@@JesterEric Yeah, Manic Miner and Chuckie Egg were good. Truthfully, apart from the somewhat mediocre conversion on the C64, and that horrible 16 bit version, Chuckie Egg had pretty good versions across all platforms
Wow, that's a lot of Konami titles for a "games you should avoid" list. I think the thing is, Konami wanted to do stuff with the MSX hardware that was impractical for the hardware. They were basically working with a ColecoVision on steroids... that limited their aspirations quite a bit.
Early Konami cut their teeth on two mediums primarily, MSX and the Arcades. Between the two, I don't know what was worse. I DO prefer their Famicom Disk System titles though!
At the time i love Batman. I play it on the Amstrad cpc, and is still one of my favorite Batman game. (Nostalgia) For this time the isometric view was mind blowing. Good vidéo man.😉
Castlevania has its own unique MSX experience. However, the game can be rather cryptic at times, so most people should probably steer away from that version. Especially as the NES original has the superior soundtrack rendition. However, the game does have a SCC music hack that makes the MSX music pretty good. Pac-Mania on MSX2 is meh. MSX2 version clearly struggles with scrolling in that fashion. Just stick to the Sharp X68000 or arcade version. Green Beret is nothing too good on MSX1. MSX1 struggled with Out Run. MSX2 is a small improvement, but still makes the gameplay more difficult than needed. MSX2 probably has the most decent attempt of 1942 on the Japanese home microcomputers. Even then, none of the Japanese home microcomputers back then had an actual worthwhile experience with 1942.
@@Fortefyre no but Sony made a few MSX trackballs for later models. Never tried one with Track and Field. The Atari cx80 I have has a joystick emulation switch
@@FortefyreThe MSX sounds like a good buy! My brother wanted a computer and bought a Commodore 64 and was always screaming at how it messed up all the time!! (Of course he bought it used so maybe there was something wrong with it...)
@@mikeburkhart8336 One thing you'll need if you do choose to buy one, is a step-down power converter. The one I use iswww.amazon.com/VCT-VT-500J-Japanese-Transformer-Converts/dp/B000PC4JL4
Shalom is the worst sequel ever. But i strongly disagree on circus charlie, comic bakery, parodius and hypersports. I'm interested to see your top 10 msx.
I expect to release one sometime soon. Glad to know I'm not alone in thinking Shalom is dreadful! I'll give you the other ones, but Parodius is nonsense :P
Comic Bakery isn't a BAD GAME per se it's just boring, pointless, and repetitive. It's basically a glorified Nintendo Game and Watch game on a computer
