I love this, it was so informative! Didn't know there was a difference between Possums and Opossums :) I would love to see a video about Giant Day Gecko care!
As a snake owner with lots of extra frozen pinkies and as a frog and gecko owner with way too many dubia....I think I'm ready to feed a short tailed possum.
How often should they be fed the mice? Every other day? Once a week? I'm thinking about getting a STO, but I'm trying to get as much info on their diet as possible.
Could you make more vids about ferret care, ferret pros and cons and a ferret cage tour please. I'm thinking of getting one and your channel is really helpful.
I had a possum one of the ones you can find in the woods but I didn't find her and I got her as a baby someone brought to the place my mom worked at the time and her 3 siblings (2 sadly would not do good bc they were aggressive and chewed each other's ears off) so she was about two months when I got her and two years when she past away she was AWSOME her favorite snack were hot dogs and dried cranberries/blue berry and she went nuts when she heard the bag
Omg I love your videos. I learn so much about animals and for Christmas I am asking for a rat. Do you have any advice cry on rat care and or could you please do a video on them. I love you and your channel. Oh and your animals of course
Idk if you are gonna answer but i have a question. How many times do you need to feed a pinkie? Need to feed it every 2 days or every week? And also what fruits and veggies should i give then? Because im not sure what i can feed and what i cannot
Do they make a sound? I've been hoping to hear a chirp from mine, and I looked it up but there's nothing to say they do or don't make sounds. Anyone ever hear theirs squeak? Mine vibrated when I first brought him home but he stopped.
Hey❤️❤️ I love your channel 😍😊 I was wondering if you could do a video of how to take care of a green cheek conure cause I'm getting one!!😃😄 so plz can you make a video about it😝 like what to feed them and what kind of bird cages are good for them??? Thank you❤️🙏🏼
Just curious, how do you see crested geckos on the solitary/social scale. I know you keep yours together, but most people don't. Just asking since I've heard that they're social and solitary many times
Hey i love your videos and ilysm♡♡ but can you please make some helpfull videos about cats and kittens too i always like watching all pet videos but i own a kitten!!! :)
When you say kibble, my assumption is that you mean just cat and dog food. Are there oppossum specific dry foods, that I should then supplement with meal worms and things of the sort (proteins) and some fresh fruits and veggies?
@@HappyTailsAnimals So I'm assuming you mean to give them live feeders then as their main source of food. Would you mind telling me how you go about this? Do you have daily feeding times, or do you leave them in a dish that the food can't climb out of? Is there something I am missing here? Any good resources you have that I could read up on? Diet is the one thing I am struggling to find good info on for these guys. Though it makes me question my other info considering how much kibble is recommended
I hate the myth that they are aggressive, disease carrying rodents that tear up things. We live in rural SC and we do not allow our dogs out after dark to protect the wild opossum the comes on the back deck each night. She is completely docile and has never damaged anything but my dog almost killed her one night. My husband and I took out the trash last night and she went to the bottom tier of the deck and accidentally cornered herself. I tossed her a piece of pound cake under her nose from 5ft away and she never hissed or growled and ate it happily. Unfortunately she is coming to get dog kibble and I don’t want her to get sick from it. I’m wondering if I should put healthier options out for her at night.
i feel like i failed my Anastasia...just about everything you said in this video, with the exception of a couple non care related facts ( being a non rodent and the difference between opossum and possum), i did as it was what was available for care info i could find! she passed early last year and i can only blame myself for not doing my due diligence and properly researching the STO...i fed her cat food, i gave her calcium, all of it...and i couldnt figure out why she passed so soon into having her as a pet...i only had her for about a year and a half...this really upsets me...
@@dinogamergaming Anastasia was only about 2 years old... could have been a little less, I had her for about a year and a half but I'm not sure how long she was at the pet shop before I picked her up...
@rxmclaren7 sounds like they lived long enough as their body could afford on cat food or kibble, it's best to give them a mixture of chicken and insects. You can easily order insects online for once a month and the opossum will only need 4 or 5 a day, calciworms will be nest for nutrition and calcium. give them some cooked chicken breasts as their main food, half a teaspoon of baby Veggie food. A pinky mouse once a week for calcium aswell. A dried cranberry to keep their urine healthy. And some fruit (a slice of banana, three blue berries. Papaya ) if you have time and some extra money it's an easy way to provide fresh food out o your own groceries besides the baby pinky mice and insects for supplementation
@@dinogamergaming thank you so much for the advice! I wish I could have one now, but unfortunately I just don't have the time necessary... again, thanks for the advice!
There was a study done on the feces of wild short tailed opossums sampled throughout the year. They found that all the feces samples contained invertebrate traces, mainly bees, ants, termites, and beetles. 31.4% of the samples contained seeds from certain plant groups. Vegetative plant matter like leaves and stems were found in 22.86%. Actual vertebrate matter was only found in 10 of the samples, and this included traces of lizards, birds, a snake, and an egg. This all indicates a rather low fat diet that is primarily insects, seeds, and plants. It also contradicts a lot of care guides on these guys. Cat food might be too fatty for them. Search “DIET VARIATIONS IN SHORT-TAILED OPOSSUM Monodelphis domestica” for the study.
Meghan, I have a tuxedo tortoise I just wanted to make sure that they're okay with being alone in their tank I give him human interaction but I just need to make sure
Tortoises are more flexible, you can keep them alone or in a group. Some prefer being alone so there's no food competition. The only problem I see here is you have him in a tank. Do you mean stock tank or an aquarium? Tortoises do not understand the concept of glass and will keep trying to go through it because they can see outside the tank. If they can't go to where they can see, it will stress them out. They need walls they cannot see through. They also need more room than a tank can provide. If he is in a glass tank, you should look into making an outdoor enclosure for him. Particle board is cheap and you can make a big area out of four boards of it, just remember to give him shelter of course.
are you Chinese, and don't you dare take this as a hateful comment Megan LOL or should I say Ms Megan hehe one more question are you a animal patrol or somethin' like that if so do you visit schools and teach kids about animals? pretty please 🙏 with a cherry on top!?!
I see this comment is already getting answers lol, so i'm going to go ahead and delete them since people are claiming they know my ethnicity when they actually do not. -_- I'm not Chinese, but that would be cool. Lol i have like no Asian at all. I'm Irish/Native American. I have never heard of an animal patrol, but i think the answer to your question is no.
