I really like Darksiders 2 a lot. Awesome fluid combat, great platforming that gave me Prince of Persia vibes, and intriguing story. Also, Death is such a badass protagonist.

Soulstice is a game in the same genre as Darksiders and has a kinda similar tone and writing. It's focused much more on combat and has its own issues but as a big Darksiders fan, I can still warmly recommend it.
@@Fleepwn Hope it may prove intereesting and wish you a lot of fun on it! Will warn you that likeI said, Soulstice's got some rough and divisive points (like pacing, and there being a number of mechanics that don't make the game the easiest to get into) but it does have a lot to sink one's teeth into both in gameplay and story + characters
Tke darksiders series might easily be one of my favorites, voice actors are amazing, charactersdesign look amazing with samael being my favorite and every game feels special cause they all are kinda a different genre. Hack and slash in general but still different styles. I really need a darksiders 4 and the story getting a conclusion.
Chorus is the most underrated and overlooked game I've played by far. It's INCREDIBLE and yet almost nobody talks about it. And I never thought I'd ever like a game where you fly around in a ship. It's like a combination of Hellblade and a role playing adventure game like the new Tomb Raiders, but in a space ship. It also has the best soundtrack I've heard in a video game.
there's four Darksiders games. Four numbered ones, at least. Genesis was a solid one and felt a bit... stronger in the writing department for me than 3 was.
I'm hoping and wishing here alongside you for a good continuation and eventual conclusion to the series. Love the Four Horsemen, the characters and the universe. In the meantime I had a lot of fun with Soulstice too. Same genre though more combat-focused, and with similar dark tone and feel in writing to Darksiders. Hoping for a good continuation & conclusion to Soulstice alongside the tale of the Four.
Great game. I still need to finish this one. Got a brain freeze trying to figure out who to feed on and who to let live. I think I just need to make those tough decisions and see how it goes.
@@caseywrable The best npc to get your teeth on is the indian medic (forgot his name). He gives by far the largest amount of exp (5000, iirc) and also treasures the 2nd best weapon on the game, only behind the Dragonbane. Give it a shot👍.
Its starting to feel like AA games are the only ones taking the risks now. Before that spot used to be upheld by indies, but now it feels like even indies are following the AAA route and trend chasing for safe bets, with only a handful of actually unique standouts. It feels like the AAs are the ones trying to be the most different.
The first 2 darksiders games I would play over and over for hrs on end. Definitely my top 3 franchise games I love to play. Definitely a good game if you like a lot of side quests, armer builds ect.
The Sinking City's a MUST! My only complain is that the dlc's just additional "quests" that don't really add much to either story or gameplay. Beyond dat... 👌✨🏅✨
Definitely. One of the few games since then that is in the same genre that I have encountered is the 2022 game Soulstice. More combat-focused, has its own ups and downs and in-betweens, but the dark tone and writing feel similar.
I totally agree about Sinking City. I liked it so much that I went ahead and bought Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One while on sale currently since it's same type of gameplay and development team that made Sinking City.
I played much of it but didn't finish. I like the game but the obvious reuse of assets and copy/paste locations was a bit annoying. I enjoyed it for the most part though, so I'll go back to it at some point. I bought it from the developer way back when they were having issues with their publisher and rebought it on Steam a little while back.
@adamparr6464 at first the Sinking City was a bit confusing to know what to do and progress story but thanks to Alan Wake 2 and the mind palace and piecing clues together and such, it instantly clicked when I went back to Sinking City. Lol I been hooked since then.
Thank you for having chapters. It makes it easy to come back and show my wife a specific clip when I'm interested in a game for the both of us. Much appreciated!
Honestly its still surprising that Darksiders 2 was considered a AA game. I remember at the time a lot of outlets were reporting that Darksiders 2 actually broke the record for biggest budget on a video game of all time for its time. Now it doesnt seem so much. Plus THQ went bankrupt over it. Its crazy looking back at that stuff.
I loved Banishers but after the first major decision I got so much anxiety its a rough game to play based on consequences in dialogue. Really made me feel bad.
If it helps, I decided right off that I couldn't see Red being a cold-blooded killer, even for Antea, so I just decided that I'd always make the same decision and see how it went. Love it so far. The combat is really fun once you start getting stronger.
I absolutely love Darksiders 2. The combat is incredibly fluid and exhilarating, and the platforming sections remind me of the classic Prince of Persia games. The story is intriguing and keeps you hooked from start to finish. Plus, Death as a protagonist is just undeniably badass.
Atlas Fallen is undoubtedly one of the most fun game of 2023. People just avoided it because of the reviews. But it has one of the best traversal and combat. Everything feels smooth and fun to play. It's also not too big to feel like stretched. I would advise everyone to play the game.
Darksider's loading screen about what happen on your previous playthrough is what many developers should do especialy on those 100hrs game. That is what I like the most in Darksiders. Even if you havent played in weeks, you can still catch up
Ok, that thumbnail is ace because those two are very much two of my favourite games from the last couple of years. Chorus in particular is such a phenomenal title and barely anyone played it.
FLIP YEAH, some love for Soulstice in the comments as well! I duly love Darksiders and hope that any fans of that series may find themselves interested in Soulstice too.
Steelrising would be my pick for underrated AA....A souls like set in the French revolution, except a version where the king has access to clockwork soldiers that run on human souls. You play Marie Antionette's foppish dancing robot, which is just an awesome thing to be.
Good game, yes. It's one I recommend to anyone interested to try out Soulslike game. It's in the easier side, even hardest difficulty. Janky at times though & got too much stuttering & fps drops during combat to be a great game.
@@Sunprism I played on ps5 but the ps4 version. Later played the upgraded ps5 version & it was better though, way less issues apart from a bug for an npc quest.
@@S_raB @Sunprism Can recommend Clash: Artifacts of Chaos too for a... somewhat Souls-ish title that is not as generally hard as Soulslikes, but can still provide some challenge. And it's set in an awesome, colorful monster world with beautiful music and atmosphre, good story, and a focus on melee fighting and finding different martial arts styles.
Star Ocean 6 is another one that deserves more love, at first I thought it looked ugly but it's clear that the art direction was intentional and it looks like the CGI movies from older JRPS but now we get those graphics in real time. The combat is fun and it has a ton of variety since you get 10 unique playable characters.
I played Chorus the year it came out. Probably one of the better fighter/mech like games i've played. And the music is so good in it. Not to mention the graphics are stunning. The final moments still really stick in my mind May look into some of these others!! Soulstice and Bramble look really good, just didn't really know what Soulstice was like.
Big Soulstice fan here! Will start by saying it's got some rough points. Like pacing-- some find the beginning to drag on, others find the middle to drag on, and the sights are mainly Big Bridge - Dungeon - Ruined City (inside and outside - Waterways - Sewer. (The last third is more visually interesting. Lots of snow, ruined monastery and the enemy designs get more interesting). It's also not the easiest game in the genre to get into. There's quite a few mechanics to it and I know that some didn't have the interest or patience to want to engage with them. And some skills feel like they should have been unlockable earlier. *However*. The game still has a LOT to offer. In terms of world and characters, for example. The two sisters elevate one another in both gameplay and narrative, as the story said. There's a snarky overseer/merchant named Layton who has two optional conversations per level. Can give more insight on how the characters think, reactions on recent events, lore on the world, or general amusement. The inventory notes, weapons and character guides and bestiary are written from his perspective, too! You get to unlock seven total different weapons, most of the enemy roster is solid, and fighting does *sound* and *feel* good. All weapons share inputs: - Combo String - Combo String with pause after the second hit - Attack + Jump - Attack + Jump from the air - Double tap joystick forward + attack - Dodge + attack - Hold Button attack (sometimes) The big sword only has the Combo String, Pause Combo String, and Double Tap Forward/Dodge Attack, though. The inputs are easy to remember, but all weapons do have unique moveset animations and their own purposes. For example: The punch daggers are rapid, concentrated hits and as such aren't great for hitting folks around you, but can be good for staggering enemies with longer wind-up animations. If you *do* want to hit folks around you, the whip hits wide and multiple times, though not as hard as most other weapons. the warhammer and buckler gauntlet are strong against barriers (forcefields and shields) and armor, with the hammer especially strong against the barriers and the buckler gauntlet having a Hold Button variant for every combo hit, which gives extra reach and power. There's more to it that I won't get into here right now. I just hope that you'll find Soulstice interesting, and even more that you may find it fun when you play it despite the rough spots. Here's to hoping that Soulstice and Darksiders may get proper continuations and conclusions to their respective sagas. Thanks for reading through this, and have a good one.
Banishers was very good. The characters are really well written. Was incredibly hard to blame a bunch of them for the resurrection run. Pulled at my black heart strings.
Having 100% completed Darksiders 1, I find 2 really hard to get into. The pseudo-rpg weapon system kinda kills it a bit for me, and the world feels bigger but emptier in some way. Maybe one day I finish it and change my mind but I think 1 is a lot more fine tuned and enjoyable
i have a solid top 10 games list that nothing has been able to crack in recent years. until i played banishers. that game was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. a few slower moments that felt like they dragged on a little bit but what story game doesn't do that these days? greedfall is phenomenal, the only game ive ever pre ordered twice (ps4 then later the ps5 release).
Yes. It got mixed reviews but I got it again on the switch and am loving it. The switch downgrades don’t affect it too much since it isn’t trying to be ultra realistic.
REALLY? I never knew that Darksiders 2 was just AA game. I played that game multiple times when it was released. It was so good that it feels AAA. Just rolling for the best stats on items scratches that RPG itch plus the story is so good. How can this be just an AA game?
greedfall good games. Darksiders 2, got games breaking bugs, it features one auto save only then the portal not emerge and it stuck forever. besides it quiet a good games.
This whole video is full of *excellent* games that absolutely need and deserve more love from gamers :) Banishers was so good that, had it not been for FF7 Rebirth, it genuinely would have been my GOTY. All the rest? Friggin' excellent! Sinking City, Greedfall, Chorus, Super Lucky's Tale... they were incredibly fun, just brilliant. I'm with the other commentators; AA games do not get the attention they deserve, people focus too much on the billion dollar AAA rinse repeat cycle :(
That's why it's so important to spread the word where we can. I for one was *really* glad to see Soulstice be mentioned alongside Darksiders 2, hoping for a proper continuation and eventual conclusion to both. In the meantime i'm enjoying and spreading knowledge on stuff like Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Cookie Cutter, Genokids, Resistor, My Familiar, The Dungeon Experience, Judero, Pillory, Enenra Daemon Core, Decline's Drops, Near-Mage... there's so much cool stuff and so many people that may not know about things that will genuinely resonate with them.
For sure Darksiders was and is an epic story(Darksiders 1-2)i would heave loved for the original devs to continue the saga since after the rights were sold and the next games where not even close to the first 2's quality. As for the other games on the list i can't say i am tempted to try.
I'm a big fan of Darksiders myself (mainly 1, 2 and Genesis) and would still recommend Soulstice. It's got a dark tone and writing that I feel is similar to Darksiders and has really good story and characters to match, though focuses a *lot* more on the combat and has a Level structure, and not more open world. Will say that like the Darksiders series it can have its rough spots in gameplay, but it has a lot to offer both in gameplay and story. Tt's become a new favourite in the genre for me alongside the DS series. Hoping that both games will get proper continuations and eventual conclusions to their sagas.
@@jurtheorc8117 True the first 2 games were great, but the other ones sadly kind of killed the original story. When the original studio got sold and the original story got lost and made into something new then everything that was great was lost.
@@MrGabyGaming I wouldn't say that Genesis "killed the story". As a prequel it worked well, did some interesting things and felt more in line with 1 and 2 to me. Genesis, like the other games in the series, tries its own things (and feels a bit closer to 1 and 2's combat and tone) but is not a precedent or promise how any future games *will* be made. But you make a point in how an envisioned original story may have had things lost in translation when the IP came into the hands of a new studio. It's not the full team of Darksiders 1 and 2-- people with experience may have left, new people come on board. There may be old struggles in development, new struggles, or things going smoothly. Regardless if you agree with me or not on some or all things i mention, I simply hope that any continuations and a conclusion to Darksiders (and Soulstice) will be good and live up to its own spirit.
Darksiders is entirely too overlooked as a series. It set out to be a Zelda-Like and damned if it didn’t manage to pull it off, to the point each one plays just different enough to call players back later. The Tank combat of the first one, the quick strikes of the second, and the ridiculousness of a sword whip beings it’s own joy.
