A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear

"Bug In" supplies and related emergency equipment make more sense than "Bug out" bags, as important as they may be.
@adamhughes2096
@adamhughes2096 2 года назад
Your absolutely right. I plan on bugging out with vehicles. While they have limited distance (based on fuel) they can carry much more than me, provide immediate shelter. The bug out bag should be the absolute last option.
@MattTransit
@MattTransit 2 года назад
@@adamhughes2096 "Bug out" bags are important. My point is that for most emergencies ,and even some disasters, "bugging in" is a more likely situation. Like if a storm hits that knocks out power, and doesn't do major damage, it's probably better to remain and patch things up. Every situation has to be taken for it's different potential reaction.

With the threat on our water supply this water filtering is so important.

I agree. There are so many things that can disrupt our water supply. A good water filter could even be useful during something as small as a boil water notice.

Having an ice auger, saw for cutting ice, & ice tongs should be on the list. The auger because you can use it for ice fishing, accessing water under yhe ice, & as a way to start cutting ice to be used/stored in an ice house (hence the latter 2 items).

My husband was stationed in El Paso a couple of years ago and went to an open-air market. He came across an outdoor cauldron set up (stand, chain, even a place for a propane canister) and bought it. It not only is great for outdoor cooking but is also beneficial when we process our meat birds.

I seems to never end, J.R.! No matter how much we "prepare," there will always be something(s) that we miss. We hope that others in our MAG have those things covered, but can't rely on it. We, as a whole, have become complacent and reliant on others (the "government") to provide for us. I think what's coming may, in a way, be a good thing, to make self reliance a reality once more. Stay well!

It's also good to have a plan or even infrastructure to help in the rebuilding of everything. Lots of local and regional industry disruption and innovation needs to occur. Our small indoor vertical farm is now open source and we have started uploading all our methodologies for others to use, build on, and get inspiration from. Agriculture must return to a decentralized patchwork of producers and growers of all types. No matter what your talent or passion, if you have a torch to light NOW is the time! ✌️💚

Flint and steel worked well for a long time, and fire pistons are simple and get you to the same place: an ember. A milbank bag as a pre filter will help extend the life of your main filtering method. And lasts a good long while too. Basic pool shock, stored correctly, will treat thousands of gallons of water. Waters super important and storing it take a lot of space, ultimately knowing where to get dirty water from and then being able to purify it will last you longer than assorted bottles. Multivitamins will help a lot in maintaining health on a limited diet. Salt is worth more than gold in a true SHTF scenario. Your body can’t hydrate or function without it. A good source of magnesium and potassium are vital as well. Long term a source of citrus prevents scurvy. Ever clear is a cooking fuel, antiseptic, fire starter, antifreeze, and a pain killer. And is fairly cheap. And I’m sure I missed a couple uses. Just a couple thoughts off the top of my head.

The battery back-up light bulbs are amazing. I have the Walmart brand, GE brand I got from Lowes and the Boundery brand. All of the light fixtures and lamps have these bulbs. When the power is out, it is nice to still flip that switch when going into different rooms. They do not get hot and they are shatter proof. You can unscrew them and use them as flashlights. We also use our blackout curtains when the power goes out. No one needs to see that we have power. They are not meant to be left on when the power is out. You will run out if light in about 6 hours. You can make them last a week if you turn them on and right back off. If the grid is down, charge them back up by putting them in a lamp and plugging that lamp I to your solar generator. It is an easy set up.

One of the top 10 things to get right now is information. We have access to the internet, printers, and books. You can buy books of home remedies, survival tips/skills, a current road atlas, etc. Or, you can get an empty binder and print any info you need from the internet. You can print your area's topographical maps, info about different knots, edible wild plant identification, tips/recipes/do's/don'ts of cooking the rice and the beans you have stored, how/what to plant and when, water sanitation info, etc. So, in my opinion, information is on the top 10. Get it while the gettin' is good!

Good tips. Funny how you talk about your family cast iron frypan as mine came from my mother and in fact she gave me one like yours and a very small one that I will likely give to my brother in law when I can find it again. She also gave me an older version of the Kelly kettle as she was from New Zealand and that's where they originated afaik. Interesting story behind them. One thing that I think would make for an interesting video would be using your solar panels and solar generator in a simulated grid down situation to say run your fridge or freezer over an extended period. Things like how long it will last in the real world whilst charging as well and security in terms of ensuring the panels don't get stolen or how often you have to top it up via a generator etc. I think that they're great but I also think that there's a fair bit of confusion as to just what they can do longer term. Could be potentially dangerous for folks if they rely on one without really understanding the charging times via solar etc. Just my opinion. Thanks for the video.

@oldbloke204
@oldbloke204 2 года назад
@@HavaWM Yeah I think that there's a lot of advertising/promotion going on with these things but solar charging is generally pretty slow unless you have masses of panels and obviously not all if the weather is dodgy. My personal guess is that one of these solar generators will last a couple of days on a fridge/freezer and just charging small stuff as well even with some pass through solar charging. They would be way better with a camping type fridge but good ones of those are expensive and usually small in capacity. I could be wrong so thought it would be interesting to see a bit of a longer term real world trial of them.

Anywhoo, I started with my travel Berkey, and have created a second Berkey with a water jug and pasta holder (under $10 ea) from Walmart and a set of BB9-2 Black carbon filters from Amazon and for $64 I have a Berkey!

Happy wife, happy life. Ex would gift me things he wanted. Like a fancy coffeemaker when he was the coffee drinker and I was more of a tea person, but that was when we were dating and since he was off work earlier than me, he wanted it for when he came over. And a huge cast iron kettle that he had been coveting for camping and cooking massive amounts of red meat to pile up on his plate half a foot tall. Guys get your darling the gift SHE actually wants on her day and request the things you want in your. Or buy it for yourself. Many ladies don't enjoy getting household equipment as gifts. Some do. In time, she may see the value, but don't force it and try shaming her if that isn't her thing. Oh, and that ex was a drunk narcissist who also would give me anniversary cards with a numbered list of everything he decided I was doing wrong. So much I missed seeing as we didn't live together before the wedding. And I have some practical things bought on my own now. My Christmas gift to myself has been something like warm, pretty nightgowns, etc.
