I think it's important to ask the main character: "why has Palpatine returned? What made him do that? Wasn't he happy being dead?"

I love that in this guy's videos there's always someone referencing how Palpatine is back in relation to the video.

Literally here, pretending to be my protagonist, Lucas Bruce. Only, it's hard to say how I feel about him. His biggest mistake was trusting someone, but his biggest success was trusting someone as well. He's in a hole surrounding people full of some that say they'll help, but don't, and some who actually try to help, but can't. So it's up to him to try to pull himself out.

At first I was like "there's no way I could even answer these questions about myself how am I supposed to be able to answer them for a character" And then I emotionally eviscerated myself by answering them

If you direct these questions towards yourself, it can actually serve as a preliminary to therapy.

I think it's also interesting to think about these questions in two different moments: at the start of the story and at the end of it. You might also get a much more solid idea of the character arc and how they've changed

From the two points I'm going to be acting as my character: 1-not leaving my friends behind and escaping alone 2-during my life it'd be being a good sibling, after that it'd be reviving me 3-to get revenge (spoiler alert i DID) 4-although hasn't happened in the story , if i was to choose between my revenge or saving my sister I'd save her 5-that the next generation are doomed 6-my worst enemy (spoiler alert the next generation weren't so doomed after all) 7-the one where we were never 3nslav3d 8-my sister getting killed in front of my eyes 9-sacrificing my peace and quite to help the younger generation deal with a multiversal threat , didn't regret it much thi 10-my sister , in a brotherly way

One of my characters would say that he is doing what he does because: "I will keep moving forward". That may be true for all of them... Doing something for the sake of doing it and to move forward.

I am currently doing the final edit of my upcoming fantasy adventure (unfortunately in German). My protagonist, Pearl, has been a slave for most of his adult life, while coming from a wealthy aristocratic family who's been wiped out by extremists. He has joined a blood brotherhood with 7 guys from another culture, because they freed him from slavery. This story was inspired by the Three Musketeers, so I decided to make the newbie the center of the story and the 1st-person-narrator. But Pearl's inside world leaves some work to be done. Thanks for these excellent questions! I'm gonna use them for sure.

Hey Brandon. I've been watching your stuff for a while now and it has helped a lot. You're making some really good videos. I'm not sure if you've covered this subject at all, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts or tips on worldbuilding, and how to create a compelling world that functions well. I'd love to see something on it in the future if it's a topic that interests you. I'd also love to hear more questions for main characters.

Thanks for the feedback! And I'll look into a worldbuilding video. That's one of the areas where I struggle most, so studying up on it would probably help us both. Good call!

Actually good questions, thanks. It seems that I subconsciously already incorporated most into my Character, because if not, that would make him simply boring. The hardest part for me is not to explain how my character is, but WHY. What realistic scenario e.g. would make the character hate himself but love his family, without sounding too cliché but still realistic? But answering these questions seems to be also the most fun about writing.

Can you make a video about a reading list of best reference books for writers. Want to learn about technical terms for common elements/scenarios that pop up in stories (so that I sound smart in subjects that I know nothing about with very little work). Thanks!

Excellent questions for adult characters, but what they're young? If your main character is a kid, or even a teenager? 18 y/o's usually have no solid idea what their goals are; they're just going through the motions of what they're being told to go through (i.e. college etc) until they finally figure out what they want to do with their life. These are big questions that most youth haven't even begun to seriously think about.
@dylancurry5298
@dylancurry5298 10 месяцев назад
You’re thinking too technically about what constitutes a “goal”. First of all, young characters can have all sorts of specific goals that are both similar to adult goals and unique to being young, i.e. dating their crush, doing well in school, being independent from their parents, etc. But in a broader sense, a young character’s goal could just be “figure out what I want to do with my life as I grow up”. Watch any coming-of-age movie and you’ll see that that’s often the primary goal of the protagonist, usually along with some of the other more specific ones I mentioned. Teenagers certainly have a lot of growing to do but that doesn’t mean they aren’t people with their own wants and needs
