Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 - Intro 1. 0:05 {Does Exodus Condone Abortion?} Does exodus 21: 22 really condone abortion? I've seen multiple commentaries and translations, and it does really seem like abortion is accepted as the baby's life appears to be less valuable. 2. 10:58 {How Long to Date Before Marriage} Is being in a long-term dating relationship wise? And how long should you wait for someone to make the decision to marry you or not? 3. 14:32 {Why Did God Create Drugs?} Why would God create psychedelics, since they lead so many astray? 4. 20:39 {“Too Much Bible”?!} How would you respond to the phrase “Too little Spirit, too much Bible”? I’d love to know how to respond. 5. 25:03 {Can I Marry a Divorced Person?} My fiancée came to the Lord after our relationship started and I recently found out that she has been divorced twice. Has she been forgiven, or should we call off the marriage? 6. 30:17 {Why Did God Give the Law First?} Why did God, knowing everything, give the Law first and not go straight to grace with Jesus? 7. 35:50 {Can Christians File Restraining Orders?} Does 1 Corinthians 6 apply to restraining orders? A boy in a Christian household was harassing my sister, and my parents were told it was wrong of them for filing a restraining order. 8. 42:34 {Eternal Forgiveness vs. Accountability?} Why does the Bible say we will give an account for every idle word if we will be forgiven? 9. 48:45 {The Father’s Spirit or Spirit of Christ?} In Matthew 10: 20 the Spirit is the Father's Spirit, but elsewhere it says the Spirit is that of Christ. How does this work with the Oneness vs. Trinitarian views? 10. 52:22 {Personal Relationship = Biblical?} Does the Bible actually talk about having a personal relationship with Jesus?

I was in that position at one time and ended up "with child." Since I was under-aged, I could have had an abortion to get rid of the, "problem." Even at my tender age, I would never have wanted to murder my baby just to keep things quiet and to get out of the fact that she had the right to live. We're all older now and I look at our daughter and her children and her children's children, one of which was just born last evening. (Five Greats, now!) They all would not be here in this life if I had had our daughter murdered because I was under-aged. We just passed our 60th wedding anniversary this past July. I have no regrets about anything, except causing my family shame, which they didn't deserve and I wasn't raised to be that way. Because of the circumstances, no one could rejoice and celebrate our little one, but they all stood by me, each in their own way.

I don't see anywhere in exodus 21:22 where suggests that abortion is supported. No context before or afterwards either. "Gives birth prematurely" doesn't suggest abortion..and no injury suggests otherwise. The fact that the verse doesn't cover "if there is injury", or the absence of that statement doesn't suggest otherwise either. The Bible also says that God hates the hands that shed innocent blood. So who are the most innocent? A child, unborn child. Personally, I think there is so much in scripture that condemns murder. To take an ""innocent"" life, unborn or an adult without, especially with malicious intent is murder.

Agreed, the issue is about collateral damage. More controversial to modern ears is the clear implication that the mother is the property of her husband.

In Biblical times, if a woman went into labor before her time, the baby would be born dead. However, since there are a lot of causes for miscarriages, there are going to be massive problems of proof.
@kimwalky5644
@kimwalky5644 7 месяцев назад
I thought this verse shows that causing the death of an unborn child here is like manslaughter and requires and eye-for-eye kind of penalty for the one who caused it. Like the exact opposite of the pro-choice argumentation.
@irasoso32
@irasoso32 7 месяцев назад
Accidentally causing the death of someone already born means fleeing to a city of refuge (Ex. 20:12-14) so accidentally causing death of the unborn shouldn't be punished more harshly. Also, if this verse was limited to cases of premature delivery where the baby would live, the punishment of a fine would be largely meaningless -- both because most cases of premature birth resulted in the death of the child and because the birth of a healthy child would be evidence that the birth was not premature.

Re: question 1. Is not the "harm" related to the children coming out?" and "life for life" etc etc, directly related to the life and limb of the children? The reality of child birth, or pre-mature birth, would have little to do with the mother loosing an eye or foot or burn or wound or stripe. The only possibility would be loosing her life which would be associated with the normal problems of child birth, even if full term.. This verse actually makes the pre-born children's life equal with the man who causes the "harm."

A premie can have lots of difficulties, some life threatening in the short term, so there can be great harm to it, even when it lives
@irasoso32
@irasoso32 7 месяцев назад
According to my Jewish Publication Society copy of the Torah, the "harm" that may be punished is harm to the mom ... if a woman gave birth prematurely in biblical times, the child would likely die -- unless it was so close to the due date that you couldn't tell if it was premie.
@RobSed55
@RobSed55 7 месяцев назад
@@geraldbritton8118 agreed. That is why the second part of the scripture, _eye for eye, tooth for tooth_ must apply to the unborn child. Which means the unborn was seen by God as a complete human.
@RobSed55
@RobSed55 7 месяцев назад
@@irasoso32 Of late, I have been listening to Messianic Jews. I find trust their insight, That is, Jews who have come to believe that Jesus is the messiah. On the other hand, I have less confidence in Jews who do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah thereby questioning their understanding of the OT. Having said that. I gave my reason for thinking the "harm" is better applied to the child. Like I said; eye for eye, tooth for tooth, burn for burn, applies more to the child than to the mother. A premature baby may loose and eye, a tooth, a foot and even their life, but I doubt the mother will loose according to the list. A miscarriage was equally as dangerous as full term child birth. Just my opinion, it applies to the children more than the mother, although life for life applied to both the child and to the mother. Which means that God saw the unborn child's life in equal standing with the adult who causes the child's death, life for life.
@irasoso32

CS Lewis once noted that it made sense to give Freud's opinions on psychology -- where he was an expert greater weight than his opinions on theology -- where he was not. Similarly, I give Jewish interpretations of the Tanakh (what you call the OT) greater weight than Christian ones due to greater experience and expertise.

I am a 74 year old grandmother. My age doesn’t matter really, but I have had parents who have strayed from biblical teaching. My father professed to being a Christian, but strayed into other teachings and a very progressive church before he died. My mother was also very liberal and did not attend any church in her old age. Several siblings are not Christian’s. Here is my advice to you. Respect your family, especially your parents. That does not mean that you should attend a church that does not teach Gods word. Christ made it clear that you should put Him first. Talk to your family. Explain where their church is in error from Biblical teaching. You don’t mention your age, but if you are able find a church that is true to Biblical teaching attend there. Your family may react with resistance. That is very hard, but remain respectful. God bless you. Ask for His guidance. Your stance for Christ can be a wonderful testimony to your family. God bless you. Sometimes following Christ is hard but totally worth it.

My family has started attending a Progressive church and rejects the Lord's teaching on homosexuality, inerrancy of scripture, etc. Im struggling to see how I can have unity with them, or if I should? Edit: please read my follow up comment before replying. Everyone is misunderstanding my comment. I don't go to their church, so telling me "flee" or "run far away and find a bible believing church" is not answering the question I am asking. I realize my question was sort of vague, but that's because I shortened it a lot because I was planning to try to ask on the livestream. But then it wasn't a livestream, so I just put it in the comments. I wish I had saved the longer version of my question before I shortened it, because it explained more of the situation, but I tried to make it short enough to be accepted as a livestream comment.

Only when people realize they are attracted to intimacy with the same sex when they carry grudges against the opposite gender, only then will they ask God for help in forgiving that gender. They aren't happy as they are. You could plant seeds on this knowledge if the soil conditions are right, but that must be guided by the Holy Spirit. To tell homosexuals that they are not living according to God's law will not confront the real issue.

Cass, I am sorry to hear that. My parents' church has become super progressive. They fly the rainbow flag and say that to be Christian you must be feminist and support LGBTQ. They were not always this way. When I grew up in this church, there were many conservatives. Now when I go visit my parents, I go to their church out of respect for my parents. I use it as an example of what not to believe. I am not saying that you should do the same, but I am saying that you should also consider how to dissent in a respectful way. I wouldn't condemn them unless they ask you your opinion. Show them how to live by your example. I will pray for you.

No, you CANNOT have "unity" with them. There is a reason we are told not to be "unequally yoked" and it doesn't apply to just husbands and wives. You need to RUN, not walk away. They no longer are "yoked" to the Bible OR to God. Why attach yourself to an apostate church? You can pray for their leadership from afar. But you join with them, you will be the one dragged down to their apostasy. Get out NOW. Find a Bible believing church.

In reference to psychedelics - they actually brought me to God and to become a Christian. I don't use them anymore because I feel convicted not to - but I do struggle with the fact that several uses of mushrooms made me realize there is a God who loves everyone deeply, and how he has placed everything we see exactly how he intended. He is always in control for even the most minute details. I had this realization when I needed it most and was extremely lost in depression. I truly felt he spoke to me then when I was calling out in my high. I struggle -not in an addicted sort of way - but a "I wish I could feel those raw feelings about God and myself, crystal clearly, again" sort of way.... I know it isn't right to rely on a substance for that. But they brought me to seeking biblical Christianity. And it's hard to 100% reject them in my mind (even though I would not condone anyone to use them, and end up in the dilemma im in).

I think the reason for the conviction is because results vary with those substances. You received a positive outcome because God was reaching out in that instance. Your heart and mind were receptive towards him. Others have very vivid experiences which draw them further away God rather than towards him, and others have experiences which are terrifying and horrific. Have a look for Joshua Zatkoff. He shared his testimony about mushrooms and how he wanted to use them again after he was saved. I think you’ll find it helpful.

If I may I'd like to some comment on your post. Even if you hadn't done mushrooms to have the spiritual experience that you had you may have ended up with the same longing. Many that have seen Jesus face to face envisions are in near-death experiences are painfully longing to repeat that experience. We must all seek Jesus for his own sake. Not for the sake of the experience or the gifts, but just to know him. Right now we all see through a glass darkly as the Bible says but one day we will see him face to face. I pray that you will not give into the temptation to take mushrooms again. Remember how Jesus said I am the gate to the sheep fold and all that try to get in other ways are thieves and robbers. Keep striving to enter through the gate each time and your relationship will grow sweeter and closer. I hope this helps a little bit.

@@rainycity1581 Thank you for your kind words. I truly appreciate them. I agree with all you're saying. I truly desire to live out my life as Jesus calls me to, and to have a relationship with him. There is no such thing as a fast pass to a meaningful and true relationship. I pray I can practice what God deems good for me, every day. And I pray the desire for mushrooms will fall away entirely.

Mike, I just want to say that when you said when you remove all responsibility or fault from a drug addict or an alcoholic you Unknowingly also remove any hope of getting clean and sober. That is the truest thing anyone can ever say to an addict. The biggest lie my addiction ever told me was that the reason I used was because I was molested, beat, dad issues, etc, add in any other bad experience to that. And what I never realized was that as long as I believed that it was everyone else’s fault but mine, I had NO control over whether I did or not. Why? Because if I used because I was molested, I could never stop using, because I could never stop that event from having already happened. Don’t get me wrong it’s the hardest thing I ever did and addicts and alcoholics need grace and mercy and love and forgiveness. Although this truth is not all it takes to get sober, that is something that as Christians we need to hold to because if not us, many won’t. It’s absolutely beautiful and it freed me it is not careless or incompassionate as long as it is done in truth and love.

I don't understand how they say that verse could be pro abortion. It says "a life for a life", isn't it saying if the baby died the man who harmed her would be executed because it's a life?
@levifox2818
@levifox2818 7 месяцев назад
That’s one interpretation. The other interpretation says the baby died and “life for life” is talking about the mother. If she’s alright, just a fine; if she’s harmed, eye for eye. I take the interpretation Pastor Mike does, but the language is a little ambiguous and it’s hard to confirm outside of the ancient Jewish context.
@taracarlson9498
@taracarlson9498 7 месяцев назад
Exodus 21:22 seems to me to be about early labor caused by the men fighting. And whether or not the early labor resulted in the baby being born healthy still or harmed in some way even death. I don’t even see how it can be read another way. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think the Ten Question format is going to work well for you. Your mind will be sharper throughout your whole streaming event, imho. Also you will not feel or seem as pushed to quickly (and perhaps less adequately) answer questions that are being addressed at that end of the livestream. It feels more comfortable. And frankly, you seem more relaxed. (Although this session might be slightly misleading on that, since it was prerecorded and you may have had the chance to look at the questions in advance.) Great answers on #4 and #10. The mysticism involved in the so-called "spirit-led" relationship thing reminds me of some missionaries I met once, who asked me to read their book and pray about it and see if I get a "burning feeling". My answer is: I do not know what is truth because of an impression or a feeling. Faith is based on the solid evidence of the Holy Bible.(Scriptures whose geography and history is agreeable to evident facts and whose Divine Authorship is substantiated by supernatural harmony, accurate prophetic foretelling, and life-changing effectiveness in the lives of those who truly believe, not to mention those who wrote them.) Anything purporting to be truth, or to be of the "Spirit", must comport to that Word of God.

For question 2 concerning how long to date before marriage, the answer is 'indefinitely'. See, 1 Corinthians 7:36-40. However, I would strongly suggest that both persons need to be on board with each other's intentions. "Leading someone on" would be dishonest. Perhaps a mutually agreed "friend zoning"? If I am using this term correctly (i.e. there is a genuine regard for each other).

On the issue of children coming out without harm, then later coming out with harm seems to me that the first situation after the injury is delivery of the infant who is essentially ok, no physical trauma is experienced, it is not so premature that it won't live. The delivery😮 WITH harm refers to to damage done to the infant as a blunt trauma resulting in bone fractures, eye damage,chest wounds , difficulty establishing breathing, brain injuries,m resuueltin in fetal demise.

R.A. Torrey, pastor and teacher had a great answer to Question #3, "Too little spirit, too much bible." “Some believers magnify the Spirit but neglect the Word. This will not do because fanaticism and groundless enthusiasm are the result. Others seek to magnify the Word but largely ignore the Spirit. This will not do either. It leads to dead orthodoxy and to truth without life and power. The true course is to recognize both the instrumental power of the Word through which the Holy Spirit works and the living, personal power of the Holy Spirit who acts through the Word.”

Without having watched the video yet, I’ll just say the argument from exodus is fallacious straw-grasping at best. Even if we grant the arguer’s position as true (namely, that the passage affirms unborn humans are less valuable than born human), it still wouldn’t be a defense for abortion. In order to have any sound biblical defense for abortion there would have to have some sort of textual precept for people having permission to premeditatedly kill other humans- *innocent* humans, mind you- at their own discretion. This does not exist. There is no passage in scripture that would authorize a woman to choose to purposely take the life of the child in her womb.
