The best advice I got was to put everything that you know you don't use often in a box and put in a spare room or out of sight. Then if you need something, you can pull it from the box, therefore achnowledging that you actually do use it. Whatever is left in the box after a month (or whatever time frame you deem) you get rid of it.
Our capitalist society has groomed us from youth to operate from a unfulfilled and greedy mindset. But once you come out of that, the other side is so beautiful and filled with abundance in a different way. Thanks for sharing this bro!
I've been doing minimalism for 2 years and taking things to the thrift or giving away for free is so easy, it actually comes naturally I've got rid of so much, now the declutter phase is over for me, now I'm in the phase only buying what you need so nothing unnecessary get it at home and put money in your savings account
Love your channel. I recently moved out of state and made the decision to leave everything that would not fit into my Subaru. Ended up Selling, donating or trashing a large portion of my two bed room apartment which felt amazing. Rolled into a new state with the bare minimum and only needed a 4'x4' storage unit while I found a place to live.
True I got overwhelmed when I first started, I wanted all my clutter to be processed environmentally. In the end I realized I can't save everything from the landfilled so I gave up, but learned a valuable lesson. Now I try to be as eco friendly as possible with whatever I bring in.
Every time I try to get them to declutter their closet they say “it was expensive and it’s still in good condition! I’ll get rid of it but I won’t donate it, I can sell it online and get some money for it.” But they never actually take the time to post it online. Very frustrating. Any advice? Love your content and appreciate all you’ve done and continue to do! 🙏🏻
That’s me. And what helps is getting really honest with yourself. A lot of items (most actually) don’t generate a lot of money. Does that add up? Sure. Maybe. But the hours it’s takes to take decent pics post it argue with fb marketplace hagglers get blown off and ghosted .. fast forward 6 months you didn’t make money and wasted time and health. If it truly will generate income go for it but usually may as well just donate or regift!
My aunty sold me her house. However, it’s my cousins childhood home which he lived in with his ex. For 4 months I’ve been declutter all his and ex stuff. Although I’m motivated, it’s so draining. These videos keep me going. 😊
I find that I go through a major purge and feel like I have SO much less, but once I have lived with it for a couple of months, my home feels cluttered again. Then I know it’s time for another purge. Each time I let go of something difficult that I couldn’t on a previous purge. It’s a process.
Hey Ron, great conversation as always! One of the things I struggle with is keeping items that I still use, but I know I don't use them often. This is especially true in my closet! I have been evaluating if it's actually worth it to keep things that I don't wear or use often. It's a big hurdle for me! I'm thinking of doing a capsule wardrobe challenge where I choose 30 items for 30 days just to see how it goes. If I hate it, I can bring my other clothes back in! Thanks for sharing!💗
Why are you so relatable? Another amazing video. 😁 I grew up poor and my parents have always lived in the scarcity mindset. I have had to retrain myself and do the inner work to feel abundant. What a wonderful place it is when you get there. 😊
I love this Tanya! You’re absolutely right as well. It’s definitely a wonderful place to be when you get there. Having a mindset of abundance changes your perspective around a lot! I’m glad to see you reached this point. Let’s keep growing together! 🙌🏾
I'm looking forward for the arrival of my new winter minimalistic vegan barefoot boots/shoes. As soon as they arrive I'll be tossing out (giving them away or making a small amount of money from them) my old boots which never served me the way my new ones will. I currently have two pairs of shoes (old winter boots and my barefoot summer shoes) and that feels nice to know I don't need any more than the two pairs. I have sold several pairs of shoes that I never wore and that didn't fit me well. I have only a few pairs left that is up for sale, and when they are gone I'll be glad. Even though it takes time to sell clothes and shoes I'm happy that someone else can make usage of them and that they are willing to pay money for it. To me that makes a statement and a difference. Too many things, clothes etc end up in the dump/landfills, so making sure that the things get to a new home and to someone that can actually appreciate reusesage is important and means alot to me.o
A great video! I started my minimalism journey about 5-6 years ago by decluttering slowly and selling my excess. It took a good 18 months to 2 years to sell everything but it was worth it because it allowed me to strip everything back to what I was actually using and valued. By selling stuff I didn't need, use or value it allowed me to put that money towards the things I did need. I ended up with less stuff to store and more space both physically and emotionally. Now I regularly declutter areas one at a time to make sure I keep on top of clutter and I think very carefully before I buy anything. I want to always be intentional about the "stuff" I bring into my space, even the little things.
i am minimilist when it comes to every thing i own exept my cloths i did my bigest deculter seven months back and i am still trying. but i have to admit it is not easy at all for me .
Thank you Ron There is one specific room in our house that is full of boxes and stuff I once bought but I obviously do not need ANYTHING of it, because it is still stored in boxes but I can't get myself to get rid of it either. I mean it cannot get more obvious that is has to be "useless" stuff because it literally doesn't get used. It is still so hard. I did start with clothes and made a small pile of items I can let go of very very easily (probably 5-6 items) and I will start with this. They are gonna go to a secondhandshop next week on Thursday.
Excellent, Ronald! Proving once again you're not just another pretty face. ;-) I'm doing some de-cluttering instead of partaking of "Black Friday" - which I never did anyway. This is perfect for my "break time."
“But there is space for it.” I definitely was struggling with this. I got a roommate a few years ago and we were working on the common room decor and I am a space filler. She said she would prefer in most spaces that there be an empty space than have something there. It blew my mind. I had always thought of an empty surface as room to put something beautiful, not beautiful in itself. I began going through my house and looking to see what was a space filler vs something I loved and wanted to display. I found a lot of things I had put places because “there’s nothing there.” ♥️
There are so many videos on this topic to own less. But you always hit home and to the core of what truly is the reason we hold on to things. Although my journey is slow I am starting to appreciate living with the items that make sense in my home and stop buying for my future self .
Another wonderful and motivational video! Everything you have said rings true. A less complicated and cluttered life allows for us to live more and experience "a release" from tension and stress associated with too much stuff... My roadblock has always been clothes. I will apply your "steps" and begin to let the extras go! Thank you!
I've been on the minimalist journey for a year now 🙂 and I'm making great progress. By the end of the year I will surpass my goal of 2021 items, however there's still plenty to do. It gets easier as time goes on. Even the Christmas decluttering wasn't difficult because I gave all the beautiful ornaments to my cousin. Win-win situation. Great advice as usual. Staying home and decorating the house for Christmas.
I needed these reminders as I go into the holiday season. My family has traditions around abundance this time of year like going shopping, giving gifts, accumulating décor, and acquiring other house wares just for a short time of year. Thank you for the thoughtful reflection!
Excellent suggestions. Just thinking about where and how to get rid of things is a big obstacle for me… being older, and getting older by the year, physically, due some injuries, I am not completely capable of lifting and carrying many things … not like I was when I actually gathered some of these things. So the things sit as it hurts just thinking about lifting them to move and get rid of them. Equally as hurtful though is thinking about someone else having to do away with these things should something happen to me…so one by one I am making the attempt to get rid of something…just one thing at a time, at times when I feel strong enough to do so.
I’m living with my in laws right now until my husband and I can afford to move out (he’s in graduate school). And they have about 3 homes worth of stuff in our house right now due to moving all over the world. I have anxiety just spending time there.
