I agree. About 10 years ago I sold all of my stuff, my cabin, my hobby farm and most of my toys. Bought a small house and I have a kayak and a bike and life is easier and less stressful.
Totally agree as I believe in clearing clutter from my life and being orderly and neat is a major step toward finding peace and tranquility. Buying less and saving more is so much more rewarding. Y
We downsized in 2012, but after 10 years we ended up with too many possessions again. We made a move to a very small apartment eight months ago, selling and donating every item that had outlived their usefulness in our lives. It’s such a free feeling to be unburdened of things.
It is like watching a video about my life. I started downsizing back in 2015 after my possessions filled a huge 3 story home to the point it was making me sick even thinking about things I had to manage on a daily basis. How much money were thrown away. At my first attempt a crew of 5 wonderful ladies (an estate management company) converted my house into a department store and we had 3000 people going through my stuff over 3 days. Everyone left with something (just in time for X-mas). Still there were many things left for me to handle. Now I still have things spread over 4 countries, in storages, at relatives, etc. It’s not nearly as much as it used to be. I have missed so many great opportunities to enjoy my life just for not having enough time and money I was busy spending on stuff. Shopping became a very damaging addiction that robbed me of many precious days and even years. My best moments were between our moves when we would be living in an empty home while waiting on a container to arrive. And then, …. It would start all over again.
For reference I am single with no kids, and I have intentionally been downsizing for about 3 years ago. I realized things owned me and not the other way around. Just over a year ago I sold a 3-bedroom house with a basement and a full 2-car garage with 3 cars to move into a 2-bedroom apartment with a 1 car garage. Then I moved back to my home state this spring and very intentionally into a 1 bedroom with no garage to force me to downsize more. All along the way I have giving and selling items. I couldn't be happier, much less stress and time now. My only regret is not doing this 20 years ago.
true, owning lots of stuffs got me stressed, such a waste of time tyding, keeping the house neat and organized, better to just own the functional ones and of course less, more time to relax and spend time with the kids
What a lovely way to explain minimalism. I also felt claustrophobic with all my stuff and begin the decluttering almost 2 years ago. The beauty of living only with things you need and love is calming in a way that is hard to describe to others. One benefit of emptying those drawers and hutches is that when they are empty, I have become ready to part with the furniture too. Our home is still a work in progress, but I feel lighter than air. So glad I found your channel.
My husband said to me yesterday- I know you have been trying to be minimalist but what exactly is it? What does it mean. This is a perfect explanation of what I am going toward and my goal for my future self. I will share this with him! Thank You 😊
Connie, the timing is good. I’m moving to a much smaller house with roommates, and it’s nice knowing that I’m making good decisions based on reality and not the 📺 TV. Ahhhh, it’s a good day. Thanks 😊
Beautiful message; as always, Connie. One of my top three channels. So calming and mindful. Living minimally, has so many blessings. Life becomes so much richer. Thank you. ~ Audrey ✨🍂♥️✨
I love your videos Connie, thank you. You are so right about everything. Here's an example of a waste of mental energy. I have a small pile of books in my office near my desk, they've been there for months and are now dusty. Everyday I look at them, probably a thousand times by now and think they need moving. Part of the problem is a lack of space where to put them, but even so what a huge waste of brain power ! They will be cleaned and moved this Saturday ! 😊
I have been trying to downsize my requirements and your vdos and voice gives me so much strength and calmness. Its true the less you have the more restful you feel. No stress and more time we can devote what we like.
I have just found you Connie, thanks for sharing your life 😊 we are conditioned by family, society, the media to be busy and to be thinking all the time! I’m at the start of my living simply journey, making small changes but I’m already feeling calmer with my life and within myself, thank you ❤
I love your videos Connie, so inspiring to just be appreciative & content, having a lot of stuff also makes me feel claustrophobic and it’s hard to function. I love your opening statement “ My choices today shape my tomorrow”, I keep this in my every day. Ty for these calming videos 🍂
Every word is speaking to me today I’ve been decluttering for what seem nearly 2 years and today I’m still decluttering I’m really hoping I can get rid of items that I may want to keep but but I know I must let them go because I want everything you’ve said on this video thank you Connie I can only achieve if I let go
I recently found your channel and I'm so happy I did. I'm starting a brand new chapter in my life and my intentions are to live simple. I truly want to just be me!😊 The first video I watched was you can start over at any age and I was hooked. You have a very calming voice as well.
Connie, beautiful thoughts have led you along your journey. Much like The Beachcomber at Miramar or Annie Dillard at Tinker Creek. Thanks for blessing us with your wonderful videos and thoughts. ❤
My goodness you are so beautiful. Wonderful soul and so grounded. Great videos, lots of solid information. Also, I feel that you are a Taurus. Love and blessings 🙏🏼💜🇨🇦
So true.. I also live a simple life. And for the moment I go through the things I stored in the basement, so many things that I barely used for 8 - 10 years. It also makes me relieved to take most of it to a Red Cross store, hand them over, or if too old, let them go. 😄
Thank you for your beautiful videos. They help me to remind what REALLY matters in life. It’s the people in our lives and our relationships (instead of things) that make us feel happy and complete. Thank you for sharing your wise insights with us all ❤️🙏🏻
Beautiful video, relaxing yet informative. I have watched several American You Tubers on minimalism and the word "intentional" crops up a lot. It is such an important word and, to me anyway, signifies getting control and then living with purpose and mindfulness. Excess possessions are draining.
After spouse passed I donated 90% of my stuff to charity, moved to a smaller place with my rescued boy and now only have kitchen, bathroom and bedroom equipment. We will die and won’t be able to carry anything with us…
I all of a sudden want a wife 😂 I’m in heaven listening to you. And want you near me, seems logical. Thank you for helping me declutter my mind this morning, and yes there are others like you, I want someone like you❤ feeling lighter.
Don’t be too concerned, it’s supposed to be funny but we don’t know each other so everything is lost in translation. Believe it or not, people fall in love with their therapist, not saying that I am, maybe a little smitten, innocent at best. Plenty of women here in Nevada🌻I’ll find a sweet one.
I am so glad I found your channel. It’s exactly what I need to hear right now. You have such a calming voice. Thank you for sharing your videos. Also, can I ask what cookies you made? They look delicious! 😊
I'm enjoying your vlogs Connie. I retired at the onset of Covid so changes were drastic and still remain somewhat so. Your videos are of course peaceful and pleasant. I have not been able to live in the state of minimalism that you have yet? Especially with color. I enjoy your vlogs Connie keep up your good works!
Thank you Connie for this video, very helpful. Could you please share the recipe for the molasses cookies & your ☕️ cappuccino? Have a wonderful evening & upcoming weekend!
Ms Connie, thank you so much for this beautiful video. I had and continue learning with your videos. May the universe bless you and your loved ones always.
If you associate high value and success with the material things in your life, then you are most likely underestimating the value of the people that are in your life???
You were ahead of the curve on this ! God bless you. My problem is what I have ( a lot but less that 5 years ago) brings my joy What do you do with your Journals ??? I have about 20 !!!
I’m finding it a little difficult to get to the “just right” stage. By this I mean the point where the house looks too empty or too cluttered. Your place looks so calm and cozy. Do you have any tips?
How do you deal with family members who don’t feel the same way, who always have to have the latest and greatest? Can you do a podcast on that? It’s very frustrating!
Great question! My husband and I are on the same page, however our teens are stuck in the consumerism loop. I buy my kids the necessities, gifts on Christmas and birthdays. If they want additional items they both have jobs and buy those things with their own money.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos! Question...does Amazon Prime make sense for a Minimalist? I guess I see Prime making sense for folks like my neighbors who have the blue truck show up in front of their homes most days of the week. It's almost comical to see when I'm sitting in the living room reading a book or looking out the front window.
Can I tell my story I had a friend that he is up in age and he keeps all his kid toys and clo and book his place a bad cluttered situation he don want to go and socialize his house pack with luggage fill with all kind of stuff he always depressed and he don’t have no friends plus he ha shelf out side house in big shellf fill wi his kid baby toys he don’t want to get rid of it he depressed situation is affecting his Heath he can’t walk he has to in therapy. Also he had a lot of old paperwork from his job he retired about 20 years ago When I visited him I feel. I wish some see this comment a check how their parent are living is they are clean fed and safe Depressed people don’t eat at the proper time because their at buzy cleaning their posesiones 😢🥸😎🤓😛🧐😖😣☹️🙁😕🥹🥵😱😱😱😶🌫️😶🌫️
There is a difference with simplicity and a minimalist you might as well welcome in the saying you will owe nothing and love it 😂 and give up food too and enjoy eating crickets 😂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. When you have order in the house, it is easier to maintain order in your thoughts and not to waste too much energy on unnecessary things 😉
This was absolutely beautiful, an almost meditative experience listening to your voice. Vids on minimalism are mostly full on with rapid talking and lots of info, however today, I needed something to calm me down and your vid did just that ❤❤❤
