Traveled to Vietnam solo in 2011 and really enjoyed it. While visiting Halong Bay I somehow left my wallet at a hotel. When I returned to Hanoi 2 days later my wallet was waiting for me at my hotel---nothing missing, including cash. This says it all about the character of people and the tightly organized travel industry. Can't wait to visit Sapa again. Great country to travel in.

For me,the best feature of Vietnam is the kind and friendly people.I had many examples of complete strangers going out of their way to guide me or give me free drinks and snacks etc. T,hen there is the beauty of Vietnam from the central highlands to the beaches and rivers. Last, but not least, the delicious food- at a guess, the best 10 meals of my life were there. I'm really looking forward to getting back.

I need to add two more things: beaches and seafood. Chinese flock to Vietnam to eat cheap seafood and it is also exported in large quantities to China. All provinces in Vietnam have cities and towns with beautiful beaches literally within walking distance. In some places, you can claim all the beaches for yourselves (if you know where to go). I feel that Vietnam beaches are much underrated. Maybe the service is not on par with that in other South East Asia countries, but if you come just for the sceneries and can enjoy yourselves, it is cheaper and more fun in Vietnam.

You make me want to move to Vietnam more and more. I’ve grown up in the US all my life but like you’ve mentioned, I’m a bit tired of the rat-race life style, the stress and the repetitiveness. My concerns are the water (as you’ve mentioned, must always buy water bottles), medical support, and if things can be turned upside down by the government without reasons.

Trust me, Asia is GREAT, especially South East Asia. SEA is pretty developed now and they are doing better and better every year! Just visit Asia first and feel around, if you like it, than look for long term plans to stay in any part of SEA. There are many expat groups in facebook in every city that you can join and pick up some tips, advice or in the city that you plan to stay.

Vietnam is great. BUT if you were gonna move there permanently there are things that you’ll just have to realize won’t be the same. Infrastructure is ok by certain Asian standards, but not western standards. Then there’s the hospitals and other things like that, including safe drinking water, traffic laws that are non existent, etc… this stuff is fine for me on a visit, even a long one of several months, but I decided on my last trip it is just not a place I could live permanently. I am often disillusioned by the rat race in the US but I enjoy the conveniences and certain luxuries too much to move somewhere like Vietnam. But I do love it. While I don’t think the culture is as interesting, Thailand might be better for permanent residence for many westerners. It’s more developed.

Can you make a video describing the differences between the people from the north, central and south of Vietnam? Vietnam is a very long country and I’ve heard the character of people are very different depending where they come from. I heard that even in dating these differences can pose certain challenges. I heard for example northerners are more hardworking and southerners prefer an easier life. I also heard women from the north are more controlling and people in the north might not be very upfront. I also heard the guys from the north are more than southerners. It would be very cool if you make a video like that.

This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!

If you can tell me how to get a LEGAL long term visa ( more than 30 days), without leaving the country and returning, then I’ll change my mind. The Vietnam Government has absolutely NO interest in foreigners staying/living long term - and there’s nothing you can say that will change this basic premise!!!!!!!!

You can get a work permit and temporary residence card that last up to 2 years at a time. You will need an employer to sponsor your work permit (sponsor meaning apply for you, they don't usually cover the cost) and you will need an undergrad degree. The degree has always been a bit "flexible" but recently they seem to have gotten more strict about it. For teaching English specifically, now is also a horrible time to move here. Pretty much all classes are online now and I've heard a lot more than usual horror stories of teaching companies not paying their teachers on the grounds of "we don't have enough money to pay you because of covid".

One more thing, the only other way of staying long term without visa issues is by marriage to a Vietnamese national. You can get a 5-year visa exemption if you are married to a Vietnamese citizen. There is, to my knowledge, no way of gaining Vietnamese citizenship as a foreigner. There are rumors and hearsay about ways to gain citizenship by renouncing your former citizenship(s), but I have never met or heard of anyone specifically accomplishing this in my 8 years of living here. I've heard of the government making special exceptions to allow foreigners to play on the national football team, but I don't follow football and that is just a rumor I heard.

My reasons to move would be 1) The food - you can basically never go hungry, during traffic, during long trip, or anywhere. Food are everywhere. 2) Diversity - Many people are living in Vietnam, you can find different people from all over the world. 3) Lifestyles - Vietnamese love to have fun, but they love to work as well. It’s seems like Vietnamese people always get days off, that’s because Vietnam is a country that never sleeps. Hustle and bustle lifestyles. 4) Freedom - You can basicallly enjoy living without the worries, about what this person thinking or saying what are you wearing at night. Why wear this in store, in restaurant. Why drink this and drink that. You can do whatever that you want because Vietnam is a diverse culture. Different people from different places, coming in and out of the country. I have to disagree with safety - Vietnamese or not. There is theft and always will be, people might not kill people with guns, but I’ve seen so many other ways, Bricks, knives, cars, fist, etc…Safety is 100% shouldn’t be a reason to move there. It is bad then people think. People get stuff stolen from sandles, purses, phone, necklaces, the usual stuff everyday. Motorbike is another reason I disagree, you can rent it and ride it but it’s that mean more traffic, more problems. Vietnam are trying to reduce motorbike but it’s not working out so well.

These videos are just to attract foreigners and their money. There is little to no attention paid to what life in vn means for local people in vn, which for many isn't all that wonderful. Don't get me wrong, vn is a wonderful place to be, for tourists, expats and vnese with money. If you are suggesting that foreigners move to Vietnam because of low cost of living, the foreigners, after moving to Vietnam, would be earning Vietnamese wages. Will everything in Vietnam then appear so cheap?
@unclepoop1280
@unclepoop1280 2 года назад
You're correct that it wouldn't work out for everyone but it certainly does work out for some - and a lot of her viewers probably are the types of people would benefit the most. For example, a digital nomad can live anywhere so moving to a country with a low cost of living makes a lot of sense. Another example is teachers: native English speaking teachers earn many times more than their Vietnamese counterparts. Retirement is another consideration - people can make their savings go much farther in Vietnam. Early retirement is also possible: someone with decent home equity and savings could skip years (decades?) of work by simply moving. For me personally I want to start living in both Vietnam and America splitting my time between the two as a sort of semi-retirement. Again, not everyone can do these things but for some people the low cost of living in Vietnam is very attractive.
