Had 2000 Subaru RS coupe and modded everything minus a turbo swap(budget issues). Now have a 2011 WRX sedan and love it with only minor modifications. As a 3 pedal driver since 1995 I feel proud.
I own a 2012 STI and a 2006 WRX. I was lucky enough to drive a 22B about 18 years ago and it is a different drive to any other WRX or STI out there. Sad to think that cars like that are being discontinued. Hope to see Subaru come out with something new that will WOW the people. Great vid!!
@@mericanraised5356 Due to the emissions Subaru had to change the material in alot of the engines parts (lower quality) also the sti engine in Japan came with forged internals from factory
@@bassblowbackrecords8932 So just STIs with ejs? I know the 2.0 is jp only, makes sense there. I assumed the FAs are just detuned, not using different parts.
@@bassblowbackrecords8932 only the V7 STi ('01-'02) had forged pistons. The rest is the same as other STi's. I run a V7 engine and make 450whp on it, unopened.
Now I really wasn’t a fan of the 22VB, until I test drove one and the FA24 seems completely different than the others. I’ve had it for a few months now lol.
I had a 91 Celica Alltrac and loved it but it definitely felt dated and parts were hard to come by. After that, I've owned an 04 WRX and now 07 STI only because Toyota didn't stay in the turbo awd game here in the US. I adore my STI if you have an 04-07, appreciate it.
I drive the other under appreciated turbo all wheel drive by the same name, the Golf Alltrack. Those Celica Alltracs really are cool though. I would take either one over a Subaru, I had a Forester and an Impreza and they sucked.
@Baboon Squad Yeah, good luck on that search. I had a super clean one besides some under body rust issues. I also searched the past few years and everyone needs too much work.
you forgot a fact!! the WRX and STI in America do not have the same engines as Europe and Japan. Most race teams and amateur drivers will swap in the Japanese EJ counterpart. The American STI utilizes EJ 257 which had very little changes from its N/A counterpart. As a result the Japanese engine made a deep impression in the racing community; where as the American engine made an impression in the owner's wallet. With a decent number of people needing to use a warranty claims to replace the stock engine which blew up on stock power.
facts. That's more proof that americans are mindless and emotion driven (in a bad way), continue to buy a car that is poorly engineered, when the Evo is the superior platform, or even Type R (DC2), but they overlook those due to marketing.
i owned an 03 evo 8 while my friend had an 04 sti back in like 2006-2010 which we both ended up selling our cars. i bought an 05 sti 2 years ago because i just enjoyed driving my friends sti more than my evo.. reliability wise, obv evo is more reliable. but the drivers experience is just better in a subie idk..
I know what you mean.. have you ever watched top gear compare these two cars they always end up driving home in the Subaru not the evo… It’s really just goes to show the evo really shines on a track but as a daily car the Subaru is better.
I daily drove an Evo 9 for over a decade. Drove that thing everywhere and it never left me stranded. It was definitely not a comfortable daily, but worth the trade off imo. Love the STIs but those EJ motors are ticking bombs.
My Ideal WRX would be to restore my 2003 yellow Bugeye to as new stock spec. I have heard on RU-vid that compared to the new WRX's the old ones are more raw mechanical fun.
@@thabias I miss mine. I bought a silver WRX brand new in 2002. 150k miles and hail storm took it out, traded for a brand new 2007 WRX TR. Currently, driving Subaru number 7 a 2022 WRX GT.
The reason why the WRX holds the record for most speeding tickets is the same reason it has a reputation for poor reliability. Bad drivers make bad owners.
Yes the styling isn’t as good as other models but the new generation wrx is better performance wise already over all the other years. US did get the s209 also
Currently own the following 2005 subaru sti blobeye 2007 impreza N/A hawkeye 2008 subaru wrx hatch 2008 Forester wrb Treat them right and u would never have a problem
Got a 2014 Wrx sedan first year of ownership has turned out to be nothing but a lemon problems thank you very much to six star Motorsports and there crew of techs up in Schaumburg Illinois they save my ass in this car is absolutely amazing I can't say enough thank you Chris!!!!! Next Step header downpipe and intercooler!!!
When I watch a video on a Subaru WRX or STI saying they blow head gaskets I know they didn't do much research on the cars and just recycle same lame jokes other RU-vidrs make . Only the 2.5 ltr NA motors did that and you could fix it by putting in a 2.5ltr turbo headgasket.
Idk if I said it before but I'm gonna share it here anyway. I remember my uncle used to own a blue-and-gold livery WRX STI Blobeye and a white metallic LanEvo 9. Both are great cars. I did get the chance to drive both of his cars (it's the best day of my life ngl) before he got married (and now living his best life with his family) who now owns an Alphard and a Vellfire. I love the looks of his WRX STI Blobeye but I love the overalls of his LanEvo 9.
The problem with Subaru is that now is owned by Toyota Corolla STI's The BRZ and the new 86 are the same car even the Scion FRS, why? Subaru U.S. pushed hard to introduce rallying to the market and for some weird reason they where the rally team, not the japanese Nobody remembers the Impresa Wagons Luckily that RWD STI died in 2 takes
I’ve got a V1 made in 92 but sold to its first owner in 93. Mine has original rally homologation parts on it to this day. From looking at it you would think it’s a normal Silver WRX but it’s running 480 bhp at 2 bar of boost with the biggest turbo that you can mount without relocating it I’m in the process of trying to find out from Subaru of the exact number it was that came of the production line
After swapping the intake, exhaust & a dyno tune my 05 OutBack XT (5spd manual) can keep up with the non STI WRX models. That's a sad statement for the WRX.
2 bits. One, the S209 was released in the USDM in 2019. Two, the intercooler squirt system was available on the S209. So we did get some of the JDM love once in the USDM 😂. A few heads on Reddit have even managed to piece together the system through some serious part sourcing, but is probably going to be next to impossible these days.
S209 was USA only. The S209 broke the tradition of not selling S line products outside of Japan. Also, nobody calls the GR and GV the stink eye, always was called the eagle eye. Connecting rods not push rods. The list of bad info gets longer but I think I am done here. I owned 2 Gen 3 WRXs and currently own a Type RA. Great platforms but like many its pay to play and you get what you pay for.
My 133k mile OEM block '09 Impreza WRX STI hatchback is my dream car. Unfortunately, it looks like a new short block soon, as the opening strains of the national anthem of ringland have begun.
Bro really said the Hatcback is the best value 🤣, they’re one of the most expensive gens out there, any Subaru in general, hard to find stock and not tuned nowadays 😢
SUBARU'S aren't even prone to head gaskets blowing up. People just tune them beyond what they can handle. I've been driving the Legacy BP5 2.0 Turbo for 7 years!!! No issue with anything at all. Pulls just fine!! 0-100 in 5.7 seconds. Theall wheel drive is an added bonus in slippery terrains. Subaru is one of the best you can own. I've had a BMW 320i and it was crap!! Mercedes C200 , Peugeot 406 .....None of my previous vehicles feels and performs like the Subaru. People who actually talk about head gaskets blowing on Subaru's never owned them....Just Hearsay.
2019 I test drove about 40 different models of 3rd and 4th WRX and STis until I narrowed it down to what I wanted and found my current 2014 STi hatchback. If I could get any of them new, no wear or tear or anything itd definitely half to be either the S209, S206 NBR Challenge, or a clean 2000 STi which I don't know if it had a Type RA or Spec C model but would be nice. I'd say S201 but not a fan of the body kit.
He forgot to mention about the other alt beside the forester which is the subaru baja turbo from 04-06 that did came with the wrx ej255 engine which is same as the forester xt
Are you saying that the origin of the WRB color is based on a tobacco box? I should have picked the lapis blue instead. I don't see you gave credits to Devin or Bader for the dyno clip taken.
I've owned & drive a UK 2009 wrx hatch. Had to custom exhaust it to relese the rumble but love the drive and sounds now. All whiteline running gear plus all polly bushings. 88000 miles on clock, 5w 50w oil & it sounds better than a 2005 sti, and has natural pops & bangs from the exhaust. 🤘🤘Subaru
I think the gnu WRX once you put some wheels in Lorde a little bit it’s really good it’s all one person fix it up tight another note beeping don’t know anybody who bakes thanks it’s kind of stupid no vaping here
also wanted to add that i wired one of those intercooler sprayers on my sti intercooler, it makes me feel so much better about my turbo at high rpm. It’s also distilled water, NOT windshield washer fluid, unless you wanna send ethanol through your hot turbo. Don’t think it would cause issues but i’ve always used water so i can put ice cubes in the tank with it for extra cold. Only use it in the summer because of that, though (only time I really need it anyways). In the models the sprayer came in, it was a separate reservoir in the trunk. I have my tank mounted against the firewall with heat shielding to keep the water from getting warm.
@@Jay_Don_OG2563 woah… implying like Travis is deceased?!? That’s a whole different kind of hurt then him just being replaced due to being fired or having quit.
This is kind of an odd video, as I feel like it was meant to be more funny than serious. But, I am glad that car channels are focusing on other cars besides the super popular ones, like the GRC and CTR. All that does is skyrocket the price of those cars. We need a more balanced RU-vid video algorithm from you tubers, to balance out the market again…
Was shopping around in 2022. Current WRX didn’t do it for me. I live where it snows A LOT. Went with a cx-30 turbo. More torque than the WRX and way cheaper than the GR corolla.
All the S209 sold, I have the pleasure of own #88/209, they sold for upwards of $65K and now they are very difficult to find one unmolested for less than $100K. and yes all were for US market
