It’s not the customers fault for disliking a subpar product. Toyota should have spent the money to develop a GR Supra from scratch. No one would care if it would sell for 80k, especially when it was launched around Covid season when car sales were through the roof
It Dosent matter how nice a car is or how much people want one if you make it a pain in the exhast pipe to buy one and they dont get to custom spec it themselves and dealers make the price to high to be worth it its not gona sell.
my first car was a late 90s v70 turbo which i bought in 2019 with only 105k for a flat 2 grand from my roommate. they're tough to find nowadays but absolutely rip which is cool to do in such an unassuming box. unfortunately it was totaled by some dipshit who ran a stop sign, but i would recommend the early 2000s models to any broke college students or high schoolers who want a fun fast car that costs pocket change.
7:19 you are definitely wrong about your opinion on us being the reason “the Supra is dying our fault”. This is on Toyota’s shoulders, the new Supra is a BMW except the design and badge. If you peel back layers engine, all of the mechanics are BMW. It is not just the chassis. It is definitely a ton more so please get your facts straight. We wanted a TOYOTA Supra but what we got is a BMW Supra, if they just made a Toyota Supra then it would have flew off the shelf.
I can’t wait for it to end. Only because we can finally get a break from the crybabies who can’t afford a Supra and use the bmw excuse for why they won’t buy a Supra.
Toyota should make the next supra by themselves ALL BY THEMSELVES! Stop collaborating with ther car makers to make a sports car! Toyota is one of the most riches car company in the whole world! Price the Supra around lower than 200,000 USD still front engine but all wheel drive, hybrid and with a manual option! A Supra that is a 10 second car, a low 10s quarter mile hypercar once this shitty supra goes dead! By 2027 and above a 200,000 USD hypercar will be cheap! Toyota Racing Development team like the ol Supra 3000GT TRD will be more appealing to die hard and new generation of Supra Fans remembering what the JZA80 Supra had, a TRD version Supra. I like to see again the Sard, Castrol, Denso & Veil Side Tuned Supra as special versions! This way, the new Supra will garner more sales! The Japanese Autogiant have the money to do this so stop reasoning to us that you are concerned about the money you will earn because of low sales. Do things right to get more sales! Also bring back the Celica, MR2, Starlet, Soarer, Tercel, LFA Successor and sell that hypercar GR SPORT!
The truth is toyota wanted to bring back a fun car cuz alot of their cars are considered boring, like the prius, carolla, camry, crown, and much more, but they used alot of parts from a bmw that isn't popular enough to last for as long as 10 yrs your really better off getting a GR86 cuz it's a real toyota sports car that's very reliable, and prob pretty fun to, and its all based off of when toyota wants to discontinue it, not bmw, it even looks sort of like a nissan z To be completely honest I think the best Japanese sports cars to get are a Nissan R35 GTR, or a Nissan 350Z, or even a Mazda Miata Btw if you have the money for a supra mk5 and you want it, please get it
one major reason. people are starting to prefer older cars. more fun and reliable. was going to buy the g80 m3, settled with an imported toyota sprinter trueno. dont regret it one bit
It's coupes in general. Civic, Accord, Camry, Genesis, and Altima coupes are all no longer in production, or at least not available in the U.S. Impreza and SVX coupes are long gone.
2nd highest claim rate among the "new gen" sport car, right after the BRZ/GR86 . Fun fact, lots of young Asian that still lives with their parents own one in Canada.
Like Ferrari & Lamborghini they make hybrid ice engines. Toyota could still make a hybrid inline 6 engine look what they did with the Yaris GR that thing is a pocket rocket
Toyota should have given it a back seat, and make it more customizable.. How you expect ppl to pay alot of money can really use it to carry ppl.. it is a beautiful car tho.
TLDR, American engines are crap and twice as big and thirsty than they should be. What you get with weak regulation and fuel that's too cheap with respect to its environmental impact.
It just ain’t an international product They could easily sell a few hundred units a year easily The entry level proper sports ish car is the M340i and A45 AMG , next up it’s the M2 which is priced as much as the Z4 ( 2L i4 ) Toyota could easily bring in the body from another country and source engines and transmission here locally
The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the coolest buckets of all time. Yea, everything about it is absolutely terrible, but it looks badass and comes with an optional flux capacitor…
My answer is subjective AF, but it's what I'm going to refer to as "identity crisis engine swaps". I'm especially not a fan of the LS swapped RX-7. If I was to engine swap my car I'd at least have the decency to use a modern motor from the same model name (EX: Hellcat swapped '69 Charger).
Toyota should go back to the drawing board and revive or redesign and prefect their 2J engine, maybe a 2J hybrid engine maybe, and they need to act fast if they want to save the Supra, so yeah
@@bradwhite5884wouldn't be anywhere close to a 2j then and would be just like the B58 and open deck like the rest of toyos engines. It was also already planned when the supra was gonna discontinue anyway so it was expected as is.
LOL super reliable and lotus, that is the best joke of the fuckin year right there dude, those things practically broke down driving out of the lot, they anything and everything but reliable lol. good old lots of trouble usually serious.
Well its not like the GTR. That thing is getting canned and the combustion of that car is pretty much done unless they can come up with something in Nissan. Toyota can most certainly bring it back in the future since they are more financially stable compared to Nissan.
It's always about sales. You can make every excuse in the book and blame everyone and everything you want but no matter why a car doesn't sell if it doesn't a manufacturer is eventually going to cut it. Talk is cheap and if there were really an army of fanboys ten of thousand deep putting up huge deposits then Toyota would have built their own sports car. But there's only an army of hot air and Toyota knew it so they partnered with BMW so as not to take it in the shorts as badly as they would have if they'd developed their own platform from scratch. It's like the truck guys demanding diesels in mid size and half ton trucks and then not buying them when a manufacturer gives them one. Manufacturers do occasionally take a shot knowing the likely end result and rarely are they surprised. Toyota knew the Supra hype would never lead to massive sales but they had the means and the partnership to give it a go and they did. Now a bunch of guys who were never going to buy one anyway are whining that they won't be able to. Reminds me of all the boo hoos when the Land Cruiser got the ax with nary a single wishful thinker willing to admit they were never going to buy one even if they had the money and not realizing Toyota wasn't selling but about 3000 a year.
The enthusiast is the one to blame? Seriously? No. Dealer markups not being kept in check and regulated, not offering a manual RIGHT when the Supra released, and not making a proper Toyota Supra MADE by Toyota killed the car. The GR Corolla is a godsend. They gave us an incredibly crazy good motor that is basically half of a 2JZ. The thing handles stupid power and the car is made incredibly well. Meanwhile, the Supra is just a BMW with a Toyota badge and tuning. So if you need parts, you HAVE to pay the markup for BMW parts. No thanks.
