I love people who are bold enough to say what they think. Otherwise what is the point? I dont always agree, however, and with fashion thats how it will always be. I was really impressed with you pointing out that V necks are out. Thats was super helpful. I noticed higher necklines and round neck was in, but hadn't given it enough thought.
Why even watch fashion/ style videos if you just don’t care? She made the wear what you want maxim abundantly clear. Some of us like to look like we’re living in this place in time and enjoy playing with style….and some don’t. It’s all good.
@@lenebrantley221 Lol. You realize the styles you call ‘outdated’ were hailed as ‘fresh & new’ just a few years ago? & that they keep coming back? You think cowl necklines won’t be gushed over as the ‘new thing’ sometime in the next 10 years?? Just wear whatever you like lol
@ronnie-lynn she didn't have an alternative to every single thing but yes,ost things she offered an alternative. I think some of you come to these videos just to complain
Look for a French style page. French classical style never goes out and doesn’t support buying so many things, it’s more about finding good quality, classical items that last and go with everything. That way you save time, money, and you feel comfortable in everything you own. It’s much easier in my opinion
Hello Shea! Could you do a video with women's up to date or 2023 "professional" style clothing? I love watching your on trend or what not to wear videos for 2023, but all of the styles are very casual. I would like to see what you come up with for professional women, other than pant suits- blah! Thank you for your upbeat personality and your content.
I always tell people to follow their own style. Everybody has their own style in what they look and feel good in. I wish people would stop worrying about following trends. This world is so dull when it seems everyone is dressed the same. I love graphic tees, and I just bought 3 cold shoulder tops and I have got sooo many complements while wearing the floral one. I love it when individuals find their own style.
Good for you! Wear what you like. Like all these so-called "interior designers" who tell you that your furnishings are out and must be removed/replaced, this woman is doing the same thing. Does she know you? Your body build? What you can afford? And most of the women follow what she says like sheeple. Says a lot about people not having common sense or being able to think for themselves. I like your last sentence: Individuals need to find their own style.
Lol. Cold shoulder tops have been "out of style" and kind of a running joke for a few years now but of course if you love the style on you, then you should rock it. Things come and go and some things just get oversaturated. That's why they go "out of style". Some things look great on some people and terrible on others. Do you regardless
Maybe I’m the only one who doesn’t care if I’m “stylish”?! If I think it’s cute, who cares what anyone else thinks! And as a teacher, I’ll be wearing those positive message graphic tees until the end of time lol. If it convinces me or even one student to have a better attitude, it’s worth it to me 😂 (I teach upper elementary; they’re sassy lol.)
@@victorianokes9043 true! I can understand choosing things that are flattering for certain body types or hiding certain areas, but I think “in-style” is so ever-changing and cyclical. And honestly, certain things that are considered hot are so ugly to me. If Crocs are trendy, I don’t wanna be 😂
Think she was pretty clear on “you do you” so I don’t understand your need to comment. I also don’t get why people with no interest in current fashion trends would bother watching videos on just that subject.
The people who are upset with your comment. 😹😹I’m in fashion and fashion has changed in terms of being so trend driven. It’s more personal & about the styling mix. And fast fashion is on its way out believe it or not. One reason Shein does so well is because they have every trend u could think of, current or not. I think channels like this are just trying to get you to buy their Amazon finds. I watch these for a couple minutes to laugh. Same with those “classy girls don’t wear these” type of videos.
Old lady here....I will never give up my capris...I've loved them all my life...probably the only time I didn't wear them was in my teenage years back in the 70s
Shea, you were spot on, with every single suggestion. Enjoyed this video & would love to see one on Out of Style Jewelry!! Also showing really tasteful ways to wear multiple rings on both hands, without looking tacky. Thanks for sharing.
@@gwendolyn8934 not sure who you are replying to here, but if it’s me, no. No degree in fashion. Just obvious findings through research on fashions latest happenings…What’s in, what’s out or on its way out. Everything is pretty much at your fingertips with todays technology if you want to keep abreast of what is going on in the fashion world.
I am school teacher on an isolated northern native reservation in Montana. I am 58 and don't always get out to see the latest trends. I wasn't aware that some of the items you showed were outdated. I also like the inspirational tops with positive quotes. I don't mind being that whacky memorable teacher with crazy outdated clothing items once in a while. I don't think people where I live really notice too many fashion trends anyway.
You are 100% right on all of these! This actually does help me when trying to decide what clothes to get rid of in my overflowing closet 😅 and PLEASE STOP apologizing for your opinion! People click on the video to watch it. If they don’t agree, so be it. Everyone has their own opinion. This is just yours and you don’t need to keep apologizing or feeling bad about it.
I agree about not apologizing, but it may be some kind of preemptive strategy to stop the negative comments, which never seems to work because people make negative/rude comments anyway.
It’s an F’d up female habit to incessantly apologize for your opinion. Men never do that & women shouldn’t either. An opinion is never right or wrong, it’s simply an opinion, so no need to apologize. People can agree to disagree. ❤
@@waterbaby-xz8ke agreed!👏 LOUDER so this is heard! And it's worth mentioning - pleeease women, STOP the phrase "...if that makes sense??" UGH! Ladies... choose your words so that you confidently make sense to begin with!!
Shea, you crack me up! I’m 61 and have loved your channel for several years. While I can’t always wear some of the styles you highlight because of my age, I do appreciate the ones I can as well as the videos that show me what’s out!
We all have our pieces that we love and will wear regardless of whether they're 'in style' or not. But there is something to be said for that feeling you get when wearing something you love that's ALSO in style 👍
THANK YOU for putting Cold Shoulder tops on your list! I've been saying that for 2 years! So many people wear them that SHOULD NOT! Love your channel. Btw, I'm 67!
Lol you grandmas are out of style with everything! Why worring so much? Cold shoulders shirts are beautiful, if they dont look good on you that's something totally diferente
I appreciated this video and your sense of compassion too. No one can or should bow down to every current trend but I like to know which pieces to start replacing with an updated look. Thank you!
I was curious so I watched and found that I agreed with your perspective. Well said…I do feel like fashion should evolve. I get so tired of repeated trends and outdated fashion looks!
I like tops where you don't have to wear a special bra for the design, which is why cold shoulder beats one shoulder tops every time. Also seems to still keep me warm enough if some of the shoulder is covered vs. being entirely exposed.
Exactly! Plus those one shoulder ones also severely dig into your armpit fat so if you’re not super thin you can’t really wear them without looking like you have a third boob lol cold shoulder gives shape without showing too much and the sleeves drape over the arms so pretty making it more romantic than just having a single strap.
All true! Fast fashion is exactly what its name implies. Good classics never go out of style and can be easily refined & refreshed with accessories. Thanks Shea ❤
As I’ve gotten older, style has become more environmentally driven! For example, the school building I work in can be a variety of climates throughout the seasons lol. I wear chunky cardigans in the colder months and prefer lighter weight in the early fall and spring. Light weight styles tend to be those fluttery cardigans! You do what you gotta do and for me that’s layering up so I can stay comfortable!
Saying that it’s out of Style to wear something that spreads the message of kindness (oh, you can just replace this with a band) is, if you will pardon me, just slightly ignorant.
No need to apologize for setting us straight on what looks good and what’s dated, that’s what we’re here for and I thank you 1 million times for your common sense advice and incredible fashion sense.
Yup, I agree with every single one! I also agree with ppl who say to wear what you want, which you made absolutely clear, but there is no denying that fashion reflects the times, and as the times change, so does our eye for fashion.
I live in Florida, and the cold are very popular still here. Today alone I seen numerous people wearing them. I like your videos like this. It helps me a lot. My Granddaughter, also tries to dress me for today's time. Thanks Sheea, may you have a Blessed evening.
Style is wearing what you like. Never follow trends. The best advice I was ever given. Buy a few classic staples, and learn how to create several looks with just a few pieces. If you’re following trends, you’re not in style, that’s trying to look like everyone else. Individuality wins every single time.
Always hit Liked before I even watch your videos Shea because I know I’m going to Love it, you get straight to the point without dragging it out, that’s what I Love most about your content, I love that it’s under 10 minutes and I can move on, Great video as always, couldn’t agree more with you on everything you shared, I’ve just done a huge de clutter of my clothes and donated all the styles that I had that you shared, especially the tops I had tied at the bottom with those dangly bits Lol 😂, I loved how you described them Lol 😝. Have a Great Day. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🐨🦘❤️❤️❤️
I just bought 2 cold shoulder tops and a cold shoulder romper. I got tons of compliments when I wore them 😂 They are definitely still in style where I live.
I agree with some; although, some of these styles still looks good on some people. The tiene shirts are one of my favorites. It looks favorable on my figure. I can't wear the tucked-in look, because of my pooch. The tied shirt has the same effect, but I could do it lower. I, however, do like the tied button down- too. I could only do the tucked-in look if I wear an A-line skirt.
Shea, you made such good points and were really sweet about it! Don’t feel sorry, you stated your personal opinions very diplomatically 🫶🏻 You just care and it shows! Loved the video, today I’ll definitely binge some more of these 🥰
Shea, I am 62 and I loved how you showed an alternative to something that looks a bit (or a lot) outdated. I love a great graphic tee but have gotten rid of the ones like the Bee Kind (I actually owned that one). As a mature influencer (mostly beauty space) I always say, If You love it, then please continue wearing it. Remember that all of these styles will come back around (i've seen it over and over again - especially the cowl neck). Lol! I am trying to wear more classic pieces and will add some trendy pieces to continue to look "with it". Keep the content coming - I love your channel. :)
I think the only thing outdated is your perspective honestly. And I mean that with kindness and respect. We’re in an era where fashion is really whatever you want it to be, it’s all about self expression. Ideas around “hiding troubled areas” on your body are also outdated. I love this era of fashion we’re in and people being authentic to their own unique styles instead of looking the same.
I have a style all unique to myself and a lot of this pertains to me. It looks flattering on me and trendy on me. I don't care what anyone else wears. Personally I hate cropped tops. To each their own.
You’re my favorite fashion and home YTer Whitney!! Don’t worry about hate comments so much and just keep doing what you do which is always awesome and genuine!
I have a more gothic style, and these tips are still pretty useful. I can still apply some of these more up to date rules to my style. You’re such a sweetheart and a lot of fun. Never saw your videos till now.
I actually agree with SO many of these! Especially the Tie-Dye shirts!!! I could never get on board with that trend, lol! So when you said it, I was like: “Preach sister!” 🤣🤣🤣
@@teleriferchnyfain Lol, I actually admire that! Even though tie-dye isn’t my personal style, I love that you feel that way! That you like it and you wear it regardless of what’s “trending.” That’s amazing!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽☺️
@@ParisRodriguez10281987 My generation of women (I started college in 1970) emphatically turned our backs on the power of the fashion industry to tell us what to wear. The Maxi length came out then & flopped - none of the young women gave up their mini-skirts. The fashion industry has never had the same power since, even today🤗
Good point! Same goes for off the shoulder tops and ones with really wide square necklines. I’ve been looking for a good strapless bra but so far haven’t found one, so I avoid all styles where one is needed.
As a 50+ woman who lives in northern Illinois, I will keep my cowl necks. I got rid of my hoodies, turtle necks, and yes, the mock necks. But, warmth is needed in the winter time.
nah it's 2023 gatekeeping is out of style. Plus the absolute best band shirt I've ever seen is the one that says Nirvana but has a photo of Hanson. 10/10 chef's kiss
You show better choices in a nice way. Sad because people with negative comments troll, you have to feel like you have to constantly apologize? (if they don't care, why are they even watching and wasting time commenting?). You're doing a great job showing alternatives and saying, if you like something, keep wearing it. Love your suggestions!
LOVED IT! And Josh, I see you! The new editing with Shea looking at the item is so effective and smoooth. Well done you dynamic duo! Well done indeed! Have a funny popcorn cardigan story for you. Love it SOOO much, I Ordered one for my Elderly mother for mother's day, who had just fallen/hip/reduced to using a walker. The delivery person delivered "IT" across the street to her male neighbor friend who was recovering from a stroke and had one good side (bare with me here). He gets so many packages he didn't look at the label. Held "IT" up in the air and couldn't decipher what it was. Tossed in a pile that was destined for the trash. I tracked the delivery and asked mom how she like her gift. WHAT GIFT? It was delivered mom I know you got it. Figured out it was delivered to the neighbor instead. Long story longer, the man who had one good side came up with a plan on how to get "IT" back to the stylish lady across the street who was using a walker. He managed to get in his garage, into his car, got the car started, (again ONE GOOD SIDE) to which he then drove the car out of his driveway, in the street and steered into my moms driveway, parked as close as possible at an angle, where my mom in a walker would be on the sidewalk, with a reacher/grabber stick. Keeping a safe distance (this was during the C19 quarantine thingy). His master plan was he would supervise as she safely got back in her house, up the steps, where she would then be in position to watch as he safety returned back in his garage and into his front room recliner. The safety net plan: At any time if either of them failed the other could call for backup.🤦♀ (he has a PHD and is a college professor. It is all in the details). So please understand I have PTSD when you mention POP CORN Cardigan SWEATER. Warn a girl next time won't you? 😂🤣 It is REALLY THAT GOOD BTW!
I think the man across the street is my father lol! Sounds like something he would do for sure, especially if the stylish lady across the street was single!
Love this video. So fun...BUT....I will be buried in my cold shoulder top! I even recently made one. I have the most awesome shoulders, and I look amazing in them!!😂
Thank you for the advice. For real, I'm almost 70 aaaand do not want to be a frumpy old lady. I can totally be a stylish old lady and your helping. Good vid.
You are not being mean and I love this content. As a matter fact years ago when I first started following you, I sent you an email of an outfit (asking for advice) and you emailed me back almost immediately! You seem like a genuinely nice person. Thank you for your video!❤
I started watching this expecting to disagree with you on everything but I actually agree 100%!!😂 To be fair , I’ve never worn any of the out dated items anyway with exception of the “lace up” pirate(cheese cloth) shirt I used to wear in the 90s! (And maybe one high/low top😅).
Thanks Shea! I'm really over my cold-shoulder tops, just threw one right in the ol trashcan this week. Whew! That felt good. A one shoulder top is a great replacement! Also, btw, your hair is getting so loooong!! Yay! Love you girl. 🤍🤍🤍
I don't think you're too far off the mark really. Most of these "outdated" items are ending up in the thrift shops. The alternatives you've shown are lovely options and what I tend to look for when shopping (whether thrift or otherwise).
The in-styles in this video have been the trends and they are literally everywhere since at least the beginning of 2022's , i guess we like to renew our wardrobes every two years here 😄 from Turkey btw. Good video, i agree with all the list.
I just watched this video and couldn’t stop laughing! You are spot on. Some of these items were mentioned a few years ago as out of style and yet they are everywhere (tie dye and cold shoulder specifically). I’ve now subscribed to your channel as I like your energy!
Well i feel a lot better now after this video. I agree with all of these points. The last video about what not to buy in 2023 had me sad. Truth is… at 60 we need our Bermuda shorts!😢. Love you!
The three button tee shirt with drapery is great for those of us with big tummies. So are asymmetric hems. I go with what I feel comfortable in and what suits me and my body shape (apple) and life-style. I’ve never been a slave to fashion, only quality.
Listen , I love how apologetic you are. Not too over the top with it and very sincere. My first time watching and I’m def hitting the subscribe button. ThaNk you FoR thIS !!!
I like your style. I don't think you're mean. Observing styles that don't flatter and look sloppy doesn't mean that you're offensive. I like your suggestions, too. I may not always agree, but I enjoy thinking about fashion and trying to find options that flatter my body shape. Thank you!
Great video! Man parts, my giggle for the day! 😅😅😅 Agree on all of these, except pastel tie die, makes me think of little girls.😮😅 Now, to order some of these~thanks for doing my shopping for me! You're the best!
Lol - you’ll appreciate cold shoulder tops once you start getting hot flashes - I started wearing one again this last winter and wow - it was like having air conditioning 🤣
I'd like to add that regarding the inspirational tees, you only see "Be Kind Today" type of messages on tees for women, whereas the graphic messaging for men are generally of the "Kicking Ass Today" variety. Which all feeds into the social conditioning for women to be nice and responsible for making sure everyone feels good and the social conditioning for men to care mainly about themselves
I have to say I looooove the editing of your videos! One of my favorite RU-vidrs to watch! Also I agree with everything you mentioned. The cowl turtle neck stung bc I still have & wear a bunch of those sweaters BUT still agreed with the updated look. LOVE YA 💋
I do agree with almost all of your recommendations. I still love a cowel neck as it's cuddly and I don't particularly appreciate being trapped in a turtle neck. I also dislike cold shoulder tops; I purchased two when they were in style - never wore them !! :-P
I've always disliked t-shirts that tell you what to do. Be kind, be nice.....who are these shirts for? If you are already nice they don't help, if you are a jerk they won't help.
I appreciate this video and amount of thought and effort put into compiling and analyzing these. You gave us plenty of different types of shirts that I couldn’t even think of! Also, everything os spot on, the alternatives look so much more flattering and fresh, the only thing i’m questioning is the one-shoulder tops, i feel like they are also kind of outdated but might’ve been making a comeback with the 2000s fashion. The rest looks undoubtedly amazing, you have great sense of style and thank you for all these suggestions! I hope you keep making these videos they are reaally helpful and fantastic. Also, people who don’t wanna follow trends should just stop watching her videos, what are you doing here? don’t follow trends if you don’t want to that’s it, no need to prove none to anybody.
These are all great except the mock turtleneck for me🤮 i cannot wear those and i think they are typically not flattering. Great alternatives and great video! I also agree with other commenters about not overly apologizing! It's 2023 girl!!! Have your opinions and OWN them! Thanks for sharing!❤❤
I wish everyone would stick to the classics and stop replacing clothing every couple of years because it’s no longer stylish. Globally, we have a huge problem with textile waste. Even third world countries no longer want it. This is because of cheap fashion - the biggest plague to our planet. Buy well constructed classic pieces and care for them well, update with accessories, hair, make-up, and stop contributing to the excessive textile waste issue. Our old clothes (some may get sold and reused, but not most) ends up being buried or burned in countries who agree to take them to dispose of them for money. Nobody there is wearing therm! We need to get off this fashion bandwagon and create our own style that we keep for years, and update with things that won’t do so much damage to our planet. I’ve been doing this for years FYI, and it works and also tends to look classier than trendy styles.
Please don’t worry about what others think. We watch your videos because we want to know your opinion. If someone doesn’t like it they can keep scrolling. Love the content!
Ahh! Yes! I’m so tired of graphic t’s. I see a ton of graphic tees with rude humor which has left a bad taste for even the classier tees without rude humor. I hate t-shirts anyway, they don’t look right on me and I don’t find them comfortable.
Hi Shea my name is Trin I’m leave in Iowa and I’m from pacific island Palau. I been following you and I think you awesome. I don’t get offended I really like when you share what’s updated and what’s not. I appreciate you because of you I know what’s to look for outfits at the store. Instead buying bunch of clothes and not wearing them. I just don’t like the look on me. So once again I thank you and appreciate you to take your time to make your show. So someone like me that can’t afford can also look stylish because of you. Do you have wonderful days and God bless you.❤❤❤
I appreciate content like this but I’m more about learning what looks good on me and developing my own personal style. For example, when they were popular, I tried getting onboard with the graphic tee trend but I finally came to the conclusion that having an image emblazoned across my ample chest wasn’t a good look for me. Cowl necks, however, are very flattering on me, so while trends come & go, I’ll still be wearing mine. You also briefly mentioned different body shapes and then skated right past the topic. Dressing for your body shape is important. Tunic tops and the top with the 3 side buttons and the draping effect are good choices for apple shapes. Asymmetrical hems are also often recommended. It kind of sucks to be told that the styles best for your body shape are out of date. Context is also important. Personally, I feel cold shoulders tops are looking dated but I live in the cooler climate of the Pacific Northwest. I can see how cold shoulder tops would be a good option in places with summer temperatures soaring into the high 30s (C)/ 80s & 90s (F). Also whilst I’m not personally a fan of loud tie-dye tees, I think they’re a fun choice for outdoor summer activities such as parades and community picnics. So, what it comes down to for me is I like to be aware of current trends but finding clothes that suit my personal style, my body shape, and my lifestyle are more important considerations.
The handkerchief hem shirts or tunics are the best option for big hips. Finding clothes that help you feel good and have more confidence is always a plus.
