Competition is a big part of life, for better or worse. Sports, the career ladder, trying to grab the last bread roll at dinner- they all share the unfortunate trait that someone is always going to win and someone always…isn’t. However, this makes for great television, and thus, we have what are known as game shows, where one person wins loads of money, and the others at least got to be on TV, I suppose. Thankfully for those who want to get in on this fun at home, companies love a good tie-in - it’s just a shame that so few exist. These are often quite popular, thanks in large part to most game shows being trivia based and therefore easy to adapt. However, there are some weirder options that have been changed into a digital format, so let’s take a look at some of those, shall we? Here are the 10 Strangest Video Games Based on Game Shows.

The pub/arcade cash quiz machine of 'The Crystal Maze' was one of the best of it's time. I'm not claiming that there were actual queues forming to play it in my local pub. But I reckon the landlord used to get a free foreign holiday in the sun out of the takings from that one machine whilst it was in the pub.

Actually, for the QI game, getting sent back to the start for choosing a right answer is because, as Stephen Fry’s instructions say, you chose the answer that was less interesting.

Deal or No Deal was also a terrible game. Where's the excitement if you're not winning actual money? At that point, you're just picking out random briefcases. And I don't think the dollar amount changes at all, so once you know where they are, it's always going to be there. Talk about making a game on a budget.

How about the PS1 game Irritating Stick? It’s actually adapted from a segment of a Japanese game show, but you have to admit it’s an amazing name for a game.

We used to play the crystal maze game in school, I fucking loved it. This was long before anyone had a computer at home so i suppose the novelty was a big factor.

I still keep the Playstation version of that game on my PC to play with an emulator from time to time. I just like using save states to easily win the jackpot every time.
