TFtusave IF you let them soak in water over a few hours you can use them to transport cut flowers I belive, the same can be done with wraping a lightly soaked pad(for incontinence or period I dont know IF which one is better) but that isnt what we are talking about, so anyway they can be used to keep things dry or lightly moist but dont use it with food your planning to eat. I wonder IF you soak a LOT of them then put it in bags in the freezer you can probably use them as an alternative to using normal Ice storage for beer cans theory wise it might not unfreeze as fast as normal ice, remember Im just guessing. But a better alternative to ice storage then small ice Cubes is to take a tray for cupcakes and fill with water because the bigger an ice cube is the slower it will melt you can also use emty 500ml plastic bottles(soda,Coke types) fill them with water but save a few cm because ice expands when freezing.

These packs lose the ability to absorb after a while a short while if in open air or large space. For these to be effective, place them in a 200° oven for about 30 min. Less for small packs. This dries and reactivates the gel. Do this every so often, depending on amount of exposure to air. And a great use is putting them in open ammunition packages/boxes to preserve your ammo.

If you're drying out electronics it helps to wash or spray them with rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will wash away much of the water then evaporate. You may also want to wipe off the electronics afterwards to prevent dirt accumulating when it dries. You can make your own desiccant using a mixture of salt and uncooked rice (both on their own will work but together they're more effective). Wrap it in a paper towel. It may not work as effectively as silica gel but it's environmentally safe and you could eat it (but wouldn't want to). It may give a slightly salty smell. One really good use of a desiccant is to remove the moldy smell from papers, magazines and books. Just put the documents in a zip-lock bag with the desiccant. It may take a number of months to work but you'll find the smell will disappear.

So if anyone has throat issues and sneezes due to their hip being shifted or a bad massage, causing lung issues and breathing throat complications, when you have trouble breathing or your choking try putting one of those silica gel things from every vitamin container on that area of the throat, it really seems to work and calm things down.....I suspect this could help some with asthma too, of course depending of the severity , but for me this really does help.

if condensation is building up between your window panes your problems are bigger than a silica gel fix.
@msmeeechelly
@msmeeechelly 7 лет назад
yeah, I was wondering how they expect the average lay person to get silica gel into the gas filled space between the dual panes, which obviously have a breached seal if they are filling with condensation. Am I missing something here?
@Amarianee
@Amarianee 7 лет назад
Michelle W Nope, you are 100% correct. Double pained glass should NEVER have condensation build up. If they do, you need to replace the glass because, like you thought, there's a breach in the seal somewhere. Not fixable with silica packs lol

For long term critical+sealed storage use silica gel packages in conjunction with anti-oxidant packages. I save the latter from beefy jerky, but you find them in many dry food items. The finely ground iron dust inside absorbs oxygen. Doesn't work if typical ziplock bags are used, they transmit oxygen fairly easily through their polyethylene structure. Sealed = metal or metallized containers, o-ring sealed or threaded heavy plastics or glass.

I found a phone in local drainage stream (dropped the previous night by an elderly neighbour when he was pulled into the stream by his big labrador). I fished it out, washed it in the sink, took out the battery and left it all to dry on the radiator and after a day or two charged it athough the display was a bit steamy. I dialled the home number and found out who it belonged to! It didn't sound too great but at least he got it back. Want another example? I once left a Russian camera (Zenith B) on the beach and the tide came in. I opened it up, took out the film canister, washed the camera inside and out it in a basin of fresh water to remove sand and salt, then poured methylated spirit (neat alcohol) into it several times to remove water. Dried out from alcohol it still worked! Film was wasted though. Camera was very grindy so I gave it away. :-)

I was hoping you would've answered more complex situations instead of just saying put the desiccants in everything you want dry. Would it be a good idea to put desiccants inside a knife/gun cabinet? Those items are often oiled and you want moisture away from it, the question is, would dessicants absorb moisture but not the oil?

Idk Ye it will absorb water from your body, worst case is that a bit of jell will stay in one place too long and dry out the lining in your digestive tract and cause scarring

how can you put a packet between a double pane of glass to avoid fogging ? the window units are sealed
@jennij9389
@jennij9389 7 лет назад
He is talking about older style storm windows. Newer houses don't have them due to the windows being double paned and insulated. Storm windows were put in before the days of the insulated window. They were placed on the outside to help insulate the windows. I think they stopped being used 20-30 years ago. We had them in a house that I lived in when I was growing up. It was built in the 1950's. Just some more useless info that I have come to expect form this channel. I don't know why I waste my time watching it...

For real I tried to do it but it was sealed
@redneckhippiefreak
@redneckhippiefreak 7 лет назад
I just think the author dosent know what he is talking about there. He showed an argon sealed window of which there is no cure aside from re sealing and re gassing... =/ . Storm windows are open to the outside elements at the "Drip ports" a 1/4 inch opening on each side of the seal. This lets in a small amout of outside air.. and Unless you can control the weather you are not going to control the humidity within said air..Silica will not do a thing for a window that is essentially in the elements as it will be saturated with moisture within hours and rendered useless...

Older windows don't have anything in the middle. In my house, over 90 years old, the windows have an empty middle.

80+ years old w wooden framed single paned window on inside, then screen, then storm. 2inch gap between inside/storm glass, loose fit and drafts make packets useless. Everything can be slid up and down, cept on humid days must hit em cause they stick. And the heavy wooden frames are tied to ropes that enter the wall w a pulley leading to a hanging fucking counter weight. On 3 windows the ropes on a single side have frayed and snapped...like in an indiana jones movie...so they hang slighty crooked and be opend to any level. And one glass isnt smooth theres a thick line down the side you can see and feel. And moulding around the ceiling is cracked meaning it is not wood but plaster. And the doors all different sizes...why? Who knows. And im looking at a real, physical door bell mounted on the wall w TUBULAR bells...fucking neat and the dog loves it when rung...but the front button has been painted over so only the back one works. Which is fine, one sees front cause its tucked under small awning.....why? Who knows. And the wooden floor has 4 sections, vertical boards, horizonal in middle, vertical again, w parquet in corner...why? Who knows. Last few staircase steps turn slightly more than 90 degrees...why? Who knows. And a cast iron claw leg bath tub w bird or dragon toes wrappped around a ball. And a cast iron radiator has a tiny steam leak started a day or two ago. Gotta love the character and tolerate the maintenance.... K rant over........

I never really saw a silica gel ball, because my parents would pretty much stop me halfway through opening the package.

If you wash your pumpkin, inside and out with half water half bleach mixture, then rinse it quickly, it can keep mold off it for almost four weeks.
