10 - The REAL ORIGIN of Transformers Transtech 

I would love a Car Robots segment! RID 2001 and Armada were the 2 Transformers shows/toys I grew up with. I’ll forever have very fond memories of them. They’re what got me into the brand. I love to imagine an alternate world where Transtech is what I grew up with and wonder how it would’ve changed my tastes/outlook of the brand.

I would totally buy a Transtech line today because, as a kid, I really loved that crazy techno-organic Beast Machines aesthetic. It was so different and refreshing. And Transtech today would be just as refreshing because quite frankly, I’ve grown tired of the constant remakes and retreads of previously existing characters. I own the originals of many of these characters, so its hard to pull the trigger on buying their more-articulated modern toy updates, many of which lack their original toy’s gimmicks and cost more than their original toys. The deluxe class War for Cybertron figures were another refreshing moment because they were so different as well.

I feel like we can't talk about TransTech and Armada without talking about RiD/Car Robots to help us see the full picture. It's such an oddball because of the circumstances and it absolutely should get a deep dive because of just how anomalous it is. I'd like to see a deeper dive into Beast Machines as well just to help build up the timeline a bit better. It's not my favorite aesthetically but I'd really like a behind the scenes analysis of what went into it.

I love to hear an interview about rid2001, specifically the American exclusive stuff, please. Considering he will be talked about, here are a few questions I had about rid2001 Bruticus. *do you have any idea what Bruticus' aborted Chest gimmick was supposed to be? Did it involve the figures shoulders? *mentioning the aborted gimmick, at which point was the Chest re-engineered to remove the gimmick? Or was the engineering for the gimmick never finished to begin with? *why did he get a new figure in universe 2008? It just seems random. *any idea behind the mindset of introducing new figures with mythical creature beast modes into beast machines? *also was beast machines Sliverbolt meant to be a griffin? *any meaning behind deco? *who came up with his bio on the toy packaging? *aside from exclusives why weren't more beast wars and/or beast machines figures redecoed and sold as Predacons just for the mainline?

I would love to hear about Car Robots/RiD. I always viewed that as the last part in a stop-gap trilogy from Takara. There were a lot of great toys revisited at that time that would be good to hear about. After getting Beast Machines S2 episodes early out of Canada, it also ended an extra long draught for me. I would love to hear it if other existing toys were considered for that line and didn't make it.

I'd happily go into debt if they finally did those Transtech toys! To be fair, any continuation of the original G1 cartoon continuity post Beast Machines/Universe would interest me, but I've long given up hope of that ever happening. Great podcast though, very interesting! You should definitely do Car Robots!

I'd love an episode that explores those Marvel Shapeshifters/Megamorphers toys. Those things have always perplexed me.

What’s also really interesting is the fact that I’m sure once the prototype toys/concept art made their way to Mainframe they themselves would have put their own creative spin on the designs, very much like they did for the Beast Wars on screen models/Beast Machines on screen models. Example being, very noticeable differences in season 1 Beast Wars toys when compared to mainframes final designs Beast Machines season 1/2 designs compared to the toys. I personally would love to see what those would have looked like. Fantastic podcast!

10:39 It still amazes me that as a child I ended up with nearly the entire line of Vehicons from Beast Machines. In this screenshot, I'm only missing the Sonic Attack Jet and Ultra Jetstorm. I only bought 2 Maximals, though, and one of them was Buzzsaw. Honestly, I just turned the Vehicons into a 3rd Beast Wars faction when I played with them.

I want a Car Robots video I think there's interesting talking points there in regards to it being connected to G1 in Japan but Hasbro decided it was a reboot, why certain names were chosen to represent certain toys, why it was even picked to dub versus another JP only show

Another great video as always guys! And especially informative! All this behind the scenes information is so fascinating. I’d personally love a RID 2001 / Car Robots segment. Such a unique series and so much fun. I have great memories of listening to Aaron talk on a bunch of the TF DVD release special features as a kid and this podcast is like the ultimate evolution of that. Thanks for bringing us these Aaron and Proto! They are super cool and much appreciated.

Fascinating to know the development of Transtech which has always been a mystery. Seems like it was another Kenner project that was shelved due to a return to basics and the closure of Kenner. Immorticon looks fantastic, would be cool to get him.

Protoman hit the nail on the head. BM was very well written. It was excellent overall. Years later, if you can see past the designs, it is a superb series. It's a shame that toy sales drive everything as the series itself is very good.

I'm not sure if this subject has since been covered (I've been watching these in the order they came out), but I'd listen to a Car Robots segment. Any toy history is always worth a discussion!

Hasbro Needs to do the Transtech Series. Complete the G1 & BW Story line. I know that may never happen but hasbro needs to put out the toys.

I remember excitement that Beast Machines being on a set network meant that more would it see it… but the story shift was too much. There were some cool ideas in there, but it felt mashed onto to Transformers, too dark in several ideas, and designs that just weren’t toy etic, like Mousetrap’s wheels or Megatron locked in a medical floating chair thing.

Wish i could subscribe every time if it added an extra one to the metrics everytime Loved this one, i can agree that Transtech was always the exotic "what if?" cheetor especially looks super cool with the wheel feet. But y'know what, i'm glad overall we got Car Robots/RiD and Armada instead. What a time it was to be a pre-teen still digging transforming robots. Also throw a hand up for getting an RID/Car Robots segment, even if it's just a small one.

As a kid I never got over the move away from real animals. I could handle some Transmelts but most Transmetal 2s looked too messy and asymmetrical and Beast Machines didn’t do much for design wise either. Like you guys said it got “muddy”

RID would be a col video but I'd much rather you talk about energon first. I feel like transformers energon is the ugly stepchild of the Unicron Trilogy so much so that hasbro has never revisited it. I'd love to hear about your guy's take on that era of the brand.

I’m not a fan of the Transtech designs, but judging by how the world embraced Bayformers similar aesthetic, with the right media, it could have been popular with new fans.

Surprised to hear Mainframe was delivered the designs first. since some of the Beast Machines show models are so off, like Primal. (Although that has probably been addressed elsewhere )

You made a mistake putting "Ratchet has a beer gut" up as a negative comment against the TFA artwork - it was a compliment on account of the art reflecting characterisation.

@Protoman & @AaronArcher: I listened to the whole thing and probably would of forgot to sub if you didn't mention to subscribe. So good move and loved Transformers since 1985 when I bought Marvel issue #1 (still have it,) .! I could see Transformers doing a small assortment of -TRANSTECH-, Megatron/Insidious, Starscream, Cheetor, & Optimus Prime! In a presale crowd fund type deal, maybe exclusive to BBTS & HASBRO PULSE type sitch. Imo the reason they don't need a event & it could be made over Beast Machines is that BM got made, these did not. My 2 cents. 😉
