He was the best Bond ever and definitely set the benchmark for all Bonds to chase after, but Minty is wrong about something, at the end he says "The original James Bond", contrary to popular belief Connery was not the first actor to portray Bond, that title actually goes to an American actor named Bruce Nelson, he played James Bond 8 years before Connery did in 1954 in a television movie that was an adaptation of Casino Royale.

Never Say Never Again was an unofficial remake of Thunderball. Writer/Producer Kevin McClory retained the rights to Thunderball script after a lengthy legal battle. This is how two James Bond films came out at the in the same year. The interesting thing is the NAME of the film. After Sean Connery finished shooting Diamonds are Forever, he said to his wife, Micheline Roquebrune, "That's it, I'll never play James Bond again!". When he agreed to play 007, 12 years later, Micheline said "Never say never again..!" Connery told the story to producers and they decided to name that film Never say Never again, a nod to Connery's return.

@bradfrank007

@dukecraig2402
@dukecraig2402 3 года назад
@@bradfrank007 Yep, but the reason some people look at it that way is because it didn't come through the Brocolli production company. But it's a stupid argument because it's still Sean Connery as James Bond, and even if it is a rehashed Thunderball so what, it's still James Bond and it's still cool.
@SatMornPod
@SatMornPod 3 года назад
McClory and Connery were going to remake "Thunderball" again with a script they wrote called, "Warhead 2000". It would have been the third time the Thunderball story would have been told. Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich were going to be a part of it for Sony, but it fell through in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Its unfortunate that Never say Never again wasn't included in the anniversary box set of the other 20 films. This was a great set which included a complete seperate disk of extras for each film. I always found the NSNA film to be tough in cheek and I didn't take it as seriously as a Bond story since Connery's performance was great but vastly different then his other offerings. Still love the film though.

Sorry to hear about the bullying, to think of it, spies were considered the superheros of the day for the kids of 80s ( maybe the 70s kids as well ). At school, I did not want to be like Bond but rather have a friend who was like Bond who would take care of me when necessary ( fortunately no bullying problems, but for getting out of exams and that kind of stuff).

To bad he didnt do the "Skyfall" scene, would have been perfect closure in the series. Probably giving him even more screen time than the other actor got, and probably more "firepower" :) But luckly i feel the Mason role in The Rock, was some sort of James Bond closure. Also even though I love Ian Mckcellans Gandalf, I would love to see Sean do it he would have killed it! RIP

Nobody does it better...than Sean Connery. I got to wave at Connery once in NYC (who waved back much to my delight), and a couple years ago he complimented my friends film "Get Me Roger Stone" at the Tribeca Film Festival. Seemed pretty genuine. My mother met Albert Broccoli, and my uncle is friends with George Lazenby. These films have meant a tremendous deal to our family and will always endure with the great legacy that Connery started in the Bond franchise. Action films as we know today would not exist without Connery and the masters at EON productions. True magic...RIP Sean Connery.

RIP Sean Connery and well done Minty - another good video tribute to his time as James Bond. Never Say Never Again the 1983 film has a family connection in that the health clinic that M sends Bond to near the start of the film was filmed at the beautiful offices and exterior building of British Alcan. Where my Dad worked for many years. This is in Chalfont Park, Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire, Southern England. I also did a work experience there as well several years later. I also had another James Bond encounter as Black Park Country Park on the Iver/Wexham border also in Buckinghamshire, was right next to Pinewood Studios where most of the Bond films were filmed. In 2001 I found a gap in the hedge on the border of the country park and watched as Pierce Brosnan as Bond plus several actors playing baddies were learning how to control and operate their hovercrafts under a instructor, for the forthcoming film Die Another Day. The set around them had been designed to be "North Korea" and is where Pierce's Bond is tortured during the horrific Madonna song opening titles. Then manages to escape. The film-makers also shot part of the woodland chase scene in the country park itself. Was fascinating to watch

I know this, we've lost one of the last real men that was left, all of us who were little boys in the 70's growing up watching the Bond movies have lost just about the last of our heroes 😔😔😔, sad days indeed. And bad news Minty, Sean Connery was not the original James Bond, that title actually goes to an American actor named Barry Nelson who played James Bond in a 1954 television adaptation of Casino Royale.

So, it was a coincidence that Sean Connery was arrested for speeding by Officer James Bond? It was _way_ more amazing that in the 60s, Connery won _three consecutive_ spins on a roulette wheel in a Caribbean casino, letting the bet ride. He won a truly _Bond-esque_ amount of money. Each time he bet on the number 17.

Nah mate. As Minty says, women wanted him and men wanted to BE him. Craig is an excellent actor in this role, but he just isn't handsome enough, or at all. I prefer my own head to Craig's, which is saying something, and that breaks the fundamental rule of wanting to BE him.

So sad to hear the news. Connery's Bond has never been replaced, just re-imagined. And that's the way it'll stay. Moore was more glib. Dalton was more brooding. Brosnan was more cartoony. Craig is more of a brute. But nobody could be a better Bond than the one created by Flemming, Connery and Terrence Young.
