The biggest thing that Americans need to be aware of when they talk about "rights" is that they come with "responsibilities". With all rights come responsibilities. You cant have one without the other and I feel like alot of Americans forget the other side of the coin.

wrong! lots of rights don't come with any responsibilities, and the only people that have something to argue when it comes to freedoms and rights, are paranoid totalitarianists frightened by freedom! the problem is, americans don't even know what real freedom is, they have the most incarcerated per capita in the world and mostlaws that quash freedoms!

Says someone who has never served in the armed services, or civil services of America. Has never seen combat. Hasn't even lifted a finger to help Americans that cannot help themselves because of physical or mental health issues, and would not give a single penny or serve at a homeless shelter to help anyone unless you think that someone is watching you and that that group of people will recognize your virtue signaling as actual deeds. Ur a poser. Good luck getting any pity from me when the United States of America's citizens find out that you are sexually exploiting boys and girls and selling hundreds of thousands of men, women and children including boys and little girls and young women by profiteering in labor in industry. Or just outright sex slavery for girls, and women who have been smuggled into America illegally. God stands against you, therefore I stand against You.

My sister is a naturalised US citizen. When she first moved there 25 years ago she got badly burned by the US healthcare system through no fault of her own (had a baby born with a serious medical condition requiring a lot of surgery). Only our money sent from Australia kept her from going bankrupt. Only in America is this seen by people as "ok" or "the best healthcare in the world"!
@dutchroll
@dutchroll 3 года назад
@OceanBlue innovate all you like, but if no one can afford to be treated by your healthcare system or private insurance companies deny patient healthcare claims, the best innovation in the world ain’t worth shit.
@dutchroll
@dutchroll 3 года назад
@OceanBlue My wife is a doctor who is licensed to practise in the US and Australia and has done so, in one of your major US trauma centres. She worked there for a year on a surgical fellowship. She has first hand experience of not only being a licensed MD in the American system, but she was also a patient in it (as I have been too). It's not propaganda. It's real-world actual experience of the US healthcare system. Dress up your healthcare system however you like. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.
@dutchroll
@dutchroll 3 года назад
@OceanBlue And ok.... one single case. When my wife was working in a major hospital in the US, a patient came in with a badly infected ankle joint needing urgent surgery. The surgery was done and a cement block placed in his ankle temporarily pending his insurance company authorising a full ankle prosthesis. The insurance company arbitrarily denied payment suddenly citing the surgery as "experimental" (which is total nonsense) and not covered, even though the procedure had been a mainstream surgical practice for many years. So he remained with an immovable cement block in his ankle and unable to pay for the surgery. I don't know anywhere else on the planet where health insurance companies can get away with this bullshit.... except in the USA. That's one of many disgraceful healthcare cases she saw. I'm not going to list them all for your entertainment.

Americans use the word 'foreigner' to mean anybody non american, even when they are in another country, they see the locals as 'foreigners'. When I lived in the U.S, everyone was telling me I was living the American dream, cause i got to go out and had freedom. No one could believe it when I left to come home, as they all assumed I would stay after experiencing how great America was. He stood amongst the many locals and shouted obnoxiously, "Why doesn't anyone in the God dammed country speak English?". I'm know this is just an isolated example and many Americans are respectful and considerate of others but this was like a living caricature. I love your videos always balanced and insightful. You're exactly right... when you're blindly convinced you are the best at everything you don't try to improve on anything... if you look at some of the "best of..." or "best in the world..." rankings, no matter what source you find (including US studies) you see that the country has fallen so far behind in everything from life expectancy, health care, happiness, safety, most educated and others to even stability of it's democracy. It's a shame so many US citizens don't seem to want to hear it or they think everything is a conspiracy. I honestly think a lack of education at the school level is a big part of the problem. Some of them know nothing about the world outside their border and can't even put a sentence together... I don't know what they're learning.

In Australia, you can pull into any small town, and find a choice of reasonable to good coffee options made using proper expresso machines. It is abundant and nearly always of a high quality. It's hardly the same as knowing which part of New York City to go to. There is a reason why Starbucks failed in Australia. By Australian standards, the coffee was crap and lacked the atmosphere of a locally owned coffee shop.

One positive thing about America (politics and social and economic issues aside), is the industrious "let's just do it" mentality. The actual road and rail way networks that were made earlier between your states and cities, helped propel growth as well. A clear example is when Australia began it's railway network between all the states, there were THREE different railway gauges (Track widths. It's no surprise that the difference has created bottle neck for industrial development (Although exports just go out of port at the relevant state). The Queensland Government ripped up it's railway from the NSW border to Beenleigh in favour of trucking transport due to it being more of a consistent flow. It's only now in the early 2000s that the Gold Coast got it's railway system back.

If your DMV / Government departments were efficient and clean, then it would indicate that Socialism might also be a good idea and work for everyone. Your ultra wealthy want to ensure this never happens as it keeps your society fragmented and their taxes either low or at zero. A well run social system looks after all of the people and would ensure taxes are paid and sent to the area's that care for the population like, medicare, social infrastructure, education, gun control, affordable housing and a living wage (As opposed to a minimum wage). With two federal parties, 50 different tax and law systems, legalized bribery (Lobbying), elected judges, poorly funded, uneducated and numerous law enforcement departments, they have design the perfect system to keep themselves rich and powerful beyond what any single human being should be and their population brain washed and divided. The only way you are ever going to live in a country that looks after everyone, is to immigrate to a westernized country that isn't the USA.

When i was getting travel insurance for the USA, I asked what the best advice was. The guy replied: "don't get sick". The shocking healthcare in the USA stems from the average citizen having no idea how good healthcare is in other countries. That is then coupled with the "usa is the best country in the world" created the false impression they have it good. The number of Americans who are blown away by the healthcare of other countries once they experience it is large.

I have an interest in cars, particularly classic cars, and I kind of thought that the US was some kind of 'exclusive club' lol. The amount of vehicles sold worldwide which are named something everywhere but then when they are sold in the US, they get a name change. For example, Toyota Matrix was Toyota Carolla everywhere else. Toyota Tacoma: Toyota Hilux everywhere else. Like with my 1979 Toyota Hilux, everywhere else was sold as a Toyota Hilux with an 18R engine and 5.5inch split rims (wheels), but when sold in the US, they changed the name to Toyota Pickup, put in a larger engine (22R) and gave it larger wheels.

Totally understand your perspective on US healthcare, but I wanted add that the same issues you mentioned about government entities would unfortunately be very similar in a socialised healthcare system -- which is of course hugely concerning because getting an emergency response to a health issue needs to be efficient and good quality, and has much higher stakes than getting a driver's licence for ex. This is the case in places like Canada and Australia (I'm an Aussie) and it means that most people end up getting private cover anyway, which is also made more expensive when there is a government healthcare system Like I said, totally get your perspective but I wanted to point out further how complicated the issue is :)

You are a man of courage and appear to have ethics. Criticising our own country can feel disloyal or unpatriotic. Nothing could be further from the truth. The wise can move or lift themselves above the fray and see what is going on with a broader view. A quality thinker can reasonably look at their society, not judge it but evaluate their community for its pluses and minuses. Well done! It is one-eyed, we are the best, nobody is greater, thinking that starts wars. Being critical of our own country brings with that evaluation a fear of blowback from our contemporaries or peers. Never be frightened. If someone can see a flaw in your thesis, and you recognize that fault also, then you'll be wiser. Outside that, the haters are going to hate. Tristan, your view of your county was balanced and fair, based on your lived experience. You have left your motherland bubble, and you can see with your own eyes what is working and what is not working. A happy life begins with this spiritual formula for our thinking. Be completely "Honest" in all our affairs and be "Open-minded" in our approach to our thinking and worldview. Be very "Willing" to embrace the new. IE: A fresh look at an old idea. Embrace innovative ideas. Plus we promptly admit it when we are wrong. You have done an excellent job on your "Ten things I hate about America" list. An oxymoron says that honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness, plus empathy, compassion, and humility, are all the ingredients that we need to achieve great power and strength. Tristan, you are displaying the beginnings of these traits. If practiced, you'll live a life beyond your expectations.

Yeah, originally my impressions about America were from Hollywood movies. When I first went there as a tourist, I was seriously shocked about the quality of food, mobile network coverage, the number of homeless people, reservations, how untidy the bigger cities are, I really felt unsafe in many places after the sunset. When it comes to guns and healthcare... Well...Don't know, I personally think that it is somewhat mentally damaging to live with the idea that anyone can shoot you at any time because he had a bad day or that your own country will let you die because it's just too expensive to cure you. The biggest economy in the world you say? College education appears to be in the same category as healthcare, it's there for the rich. I would also point out a law system based on past precedents rather than a specific ruleset. And it feels like the US is an inherently a litigious environment where everyone sues everyone else. It becomes lowers' picnic. :-) If we have to rank the relative importance of different things in society, I have the impression that money will end up above kindness, togetherness, and even human lives. The choice between Hilary and Trump wasn't a particularly exciting one either. :-) I'm sure there is a lot of historical context behind all that that I just don't understand, didn't mean to offend anyone. Having said all that, I still consider that I can go to the US for a couple of years at some point in time in the future to pursue work opportunities.

3:51 adopting the German style of electoral system might allow more minor parties like the Greens and Libertarians into Congress and break the two party system. @MusicManMaurice no the German electoral system has been in place since 1949 when the allies allowed the free, non-communist West Germany to go independent and sovereign again, the German Constitution since 1949 was a complete re-write, it included all sorts of human rights protections and a much better electoral system than the one that allowed the Nazis to seize power in 1933

@@mnbalfour1985 I think the reply you received must be from an American... probably a nice fellow but doesn't understand the concepts of a parliamentary democracy or proportional representation. And clearly has little knowledge of history in any country other than the US (not unusual... we're their neighbours and some of them can barely find us on a map). I'm in Canada and we DO learn about the rest of world, including how Germany evolved and has become one of the most advanced democracies in the world. In Canada, we have never actually had an election result in a coalition, but a minority government (which we have right now) still requires compromise and keeps the government accountable. In University I studied economics and political science... it's hard to argue that a republic or US style democracy can ever come as close to "true" democracy as a parliamentary system. Winston Churchill once said about parliamentary democracy something like " it's not perfect but it's the best in the world" (I forget the exact quote). He was right.

I've been to America many times for work and leisure and have always had a great time. However I couldn't cope with working long-term in a country where I only get 10 days vacation (or holidays) per year. In my state of Australia we have 20 days annual leave plus 11 public holidays. Some of my most precious experiences bringing-up my children has been the opportunity to show them other countries and cultures, including America, using my annual leave. How do families in the US manage to have meaningful family vacations in just 10 days per year?

Public businesses are often badly run in the US due to funding. They are often low on the priority list, because they aren't seen as that important, and "people can live with it". Whereas, a lot of other countries attempt to use these businesses to generate profit, so they put money into them to get more out.

Hi Tristan. Governments exist on our taxes. Tax provides the means to supply basic services to citizens. Universal Health care, public transportation, education and welfare payments. Nothing is free because we pay via tax. The US Government collects tax from its citizens but does not provide these basic services, what do you get for your tax dollars? Australia never denies health care to anyone regardless of their financial situation, even international visitors. Public transport is available in all our cities to everyone. When I visited the US in 1982 and 2013 I was amazed that some citizens had little knowledge of states other than their own. This does also happen in Australia but to a lesser extent.

Democracy is a system of government where the people get to choose on of two dictators to run their country. The sad part is, due to the election progress the winner does not necessarily need the majority of votes to win. Also, the two parties are remarkably similar in their approach ti running the country, eve though the campaign looks like pre-fight banter at a WWE event.

You should read more on the Electoral College vote for that statement you made with regards to "who should get the most votes should win" and you disclosed your understanding on that part of the said subject. The basic premises for Electoral College vote is that regardless of the population size of each state, all states will have equally vote regardless of sizes, for if you remove Electoral College then two states with the largest population will always win and the other states including Texas vote will be meaningless. Your founding fathers set that policies into law, so that all peoples have the same voting rights. A bit of history goes along way.

There are much better forms of democracy in the world that come much closer to ensuring the people are represented proportional to the popular vote. ANY two party system that is so screwed up that the candidate with the most votes still loses is in need of repair. In Canada, (or any parliamentary democracy) our house is comprised of elected members from areas that are defined by population, so a province with a larger population will have more seats in the house. Representation in the house, therefore, will better reflect the actual popular vote and, in the case of a minority parliament, will ensure the opposition parties have a legitimate say in policy. That's not to say there aren't problems or "side deals", but at the end of the day all house members are accountable to the voters on the same day, so those that don't stay true to their constituents' wishes will usually face defeat. We have a minority parliament right now... if Trudeau's plans moving forward don't sit well with the opposition parties (or opinion poles), they may force an election within a few weeks from now. If Trudeau makes compromises to satisfy the opposition, they may allow him to continue to govern right through the end of his term (5 years).
