Use “Sand” mode when you don’t want any throttle cut. I find that’s the only mode that works when you want deliberate wheel spin without any computer intervention. This works great in the mud, climbing hills. Also, this is a unibody design. EVERY unibody SUV flexes as demonstrated with the rear hatch - can’t be avoided. Plastic is lightweight and good enough for the vast majority out there. Adding a skid plate works.
@@hrg_tv I’m curious if this varies with module software updates. In Sand, I do not get fuel cut at all in those situations. *Wrote BCM, initially - but had all available software updated recently (2022 Badlands). I also understand the transmission has changed but don’t know how.
@@keendirt3131 There is no modern vehicle that you can turn traction or stability control completely off outside of using a custom ecu tune. It is a legality and safety thing.
I have a Big Bend. 19 months and 16000 miles and still very happy with it. Zero warranty issues. I have experienced the brake noise, but only after driving in a fair amount of snow then parking in garage. The next day they squeal when backing out of garage. Not a big deal to me. Mine has no squeaks or rattles. A little road noise but that’s it. Told friends and family that the only time I would go off reading is if I missed a curve😁 Combined mileage is a little under 27 mpg.
My rear brake noice happens around 40% of the time while backing up in all kinds of weather. Had into ford twice they couldn’t find the problem now they say it’s out of the brake warranty
Thank You for your example ! Just purchased a 2024 Big Bend, hoping to have experience like you have had so far. Mine is a back up vehicle , but I’m getting to like it may become primary !
My 2021 Big Bend was making the same horrible howling brake noise when backing up. Ford issued a service bulletin for this problem. Take it to your local dealership and they will install new rear caliper bushings covered under warranty. It seem to stop that horrible noise coming from the brakes on my bronco sport.
As an owner of a BS badlands I just wanted to give my experience. I don't like how traction control can't be turned off entirely, but I've learned to work with it. With software updates, ford may fix that annoyance in the future. The bottle opener wasn't thought out, but who uses one or buys a car because of it anyway? The tire storage wasn't thought out, but I never need to open it unless I'm changing a tire. I've parked on a lot of uneven roads and curbs and my trunk has never had a problem closing. No door rattling for my BS. No head light noise. The engine sounds terrible! sometimes I think somethings wrong, but that's just how it sounds. A S&B cold air intake helps it sound better. I haven't broken a windshield yet, but a small physics lesson. Because the window doesn't have much of an angel, the force of an object hitting the windshield is much greater than if it hits an angled windshield. My badlands doesn't have the back up brake noises. Aftermarket JCR off road Skid plates and rock slider definitely save your bumper, catalytic converter and fuel lines. Should've been standard on the badlands, but whatever. Overall I really wish I had this car sooner, but that's what makes me enjoy even more. There are lots of reports of issues with bronco sports (mostly the 1.5L models) but I haven't had any issues and I absolutely love mine. Sorry that was long, but maybe this will help someone who's trying to decide if this is the right car for them.
Thank you for your comments, right now I'm wondering about the Bronco as my first option to change my current car. Bur I have heard some Bad comments about common failures and problems. But tbh I love this car.
I just bought a ‘23 Sport Outer Banks for grocery getting and going to the lake on the weekends. 😂 (Replaced an ‘09 Murano). I didn’t need a truck for muddin’. I drive highways and put on less than 8Kmiles/annually. The big selling feature for me was that my dog kennel fits in the back without wasted space (no slanted rear view window). #2 feature- It makes tight u-turns, which is essential when trying to get a good parking spot in a lot. #3 - Ample storage for luggage/cooler - even with the dog kennel) for our weekend get-always. #4 - I love the aesthetics.
The body flex is probably responsible for your broken windshield. Also sorry to burst ur bubble but the Bronco Sport is a "make believe" off-roader; the flex of the vehicle proves it. This flex will get worse after every off road excursion you do.
Even my 14 escape had the tailgate issue every model on this platform does as far as I know, I have se issue on the door sound too,. Also same with the brake squeal was freaking out when I first heard it cuz I was doing some medium level mudding. I do love my Badlands too got it July. 15 2022 and have 5000 miles now and love it have a full size on order but it's been on order since June of 2021 don't expect it in 2023 either but this is so perfect for me I'll probably just sell the full size after I get to drive it for a little bit and keepy bs badlands it's all I need and better gas mpg, easier to park, fits iny garage and much more. Like always Ford made something great and messed it up by cheaping out on a few things
I just have to say that if anyone really thinks that you can treat ANY new off road vehicle with all those electronics and sensors like you treated an earlier 4x4 you're kind of out of your mind.
With my 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback, I can jack up one corner of the car as high as I want and the doors and rear hatch all still work PERFECTLY. I think Ford screwed up on the rigidity of the Bronco Sport, especially for a vehicle made to go off road. That flexing body also contributes to the damage of the windshield, making a chip turn into a crack real easily.
I don't put as much hard-core off road that you do, but I've not had many of these issues. Drifting in Anza borrego sand was easy in Sand mode with traction control off (basic not holding down button but thanks didn't know that). Windshield is for sure an issue, pebble within 3 weeks of ownership, and a glass tech said this stuff is brittle.
2021 Bronco sport outer Banks, over 46,000 miles. Only issue is brake noise backing up, and had a vibration when turning right. TSB said it was the rear end and they changed the differential fluid and it stopped. Ford said if it comes back I'll need a new differential.
My windshield has broken twice since 2021, the guy at the windshield service center told me that it is a thing where Ford, and Subaru, purchased the cheapest windshields they could get. Also, when backing up at night, mostly cold nights, the license plate lights and the exhaust block the view of the rear view camera. It's just another thing Ford did not think through. My Bronco sport also has the rear brake squeal which the dealership said is also a thing.
It does seem to be a thing, but if you can afford it, Stoptech z16, z23 or z35 rotor and pad upgrades seem to be a good solution from what I’ve tried so far. I feel like they cheaper out on the brakes and rotors and that’s why they squeal so bad. I’ve had similar issues on other cars and the Stoptechs have always fixed the issues I’ve had. They can be kind of expensive but they usually last quite a bit longer than normal pads and rotors
Watching and u mentioned the reverse brake squeal and I was so pissed mine is at ford right now getting that fixed I have complained about it since the first oil change I’m now at 20000 miles and those bastards actually told me it was natural and just how it was supposed to be.
They are full of shite. Brakes are never supposed to squeal like that. There is an aftermarket kits that I’ve had good luck with on a few cars with similar problems. Stoptech Z16, Z23, or Z35 pad/rotor kits. I’ve got z23s on the front of my 21 big bend, and z35s (bc they are for towing) on the back. No more squealing that I’ve noticed. I think it’s more Ford cheaper out on the brakes to make the car cheaper, both to produce and sell. Mine had bad squeal not if you were hard on brakes, but if you were light on them slowing down. Shouldn’t have to use the whole pedal to slow down, just light input. So far no issues.
I had a base model with larger Toyos on it for moderate offroad work. I have a lot of good things to say and definitely a few things i did not like. Really wish they had branded this different, so people would stop comparing it to the actual bronco. I too experienced huge body flex and couldn't close doors unless i flattened out the wheels. Typical unibody issues though. I got crazy good mpgs 36 on the highway. Lots of interior room. Questionable quality issues. It's a good product, but Ford need to tighten up a few things before i would consider getting another one.
Sounds like you got a couple lemon features on that my 2012 Silverado has an annoying rattle in the dashboard it's been there for a while that's just something you're going to get with plastic components as far as the engine noise of that little bugger I love it it sounds like a little mini diesel I personally prefer the size of the Bronco sport over the standard Bronco the standard Broncos just a bit too big unless you get the two door the majority of trails and roads I go down are very small so you really feel when you have a vehicle too big for it and while I have taken a Silverado 1500 down those trails I did not have much clearance I would love to pick up one of these little guys
DO NOT BUY. Mine has an electrical issue the dealer and Ford have not been able to correct, or issue a recall on. The daytime running lights, interior lights, do not shut off when the car has been shut off. Twice I had to disconnect the battery to correct the problem. The other times it meant starting and stopping the engine a few times and re-locking the doors until the computer knew to shut the lights off.
The company I work hands these sport broncos to the sales team. Mine was doing exactly what yours was doing but it went away on its own lol. But it’s now making a valve train noise. It’s only got 20k miles.
My next door neighbor uses her Bronco Sport to commute to and from work. However, for the past 6 months off and on she has been driving the dealership’s loaner vehicle while they try to fix her vehicle.
I've found that when blasting through snow drifts, it will cut power so I went to mud and locked the diffs, no power cut by computer. Slippery is for old women on slippery roads, just deadens everything. Rock crawl not only locks everything up, it also modulates the throttle. (1/2 throttle input is only 1/4 throttle for example, for more precise control. Noisy lights? Mine too, from new, don't care. It's a cooling fan running inside the headlight. Bought my 21 in Jan of 22, so far I've ripped the stupid inner fender out, tore off the felt "cover" underneath 4 times now and since it's tore bad, I used an aluminum sign as a solid backing to screw the felt to, then installed it all at once. Broke the windshield (it's an "intelligent" windshield) so that was $250 deductible ($3400 quote on windshield!!!) Got 245/70/17's on it and the lift kit gets installed on the 14th!!
@@drunkhusband6257 and you say that because....I put it on 3 wheels and lock the rear diff and the tire on the ground literally pushes the vehicle. Have you driven a badlands bronco sport? I'm curious because everyone that says that quotes various "sources" but when in person goes. "wait a minute, according to ....."
@@lowrangeinnovascotia2930 According to Ford themselves....it is similar to a limited slip differential, it is not a locker. To get a locker you have to into the higher big bronco trims.
I have the bronco sport first edition and really like it. My brakes make the horrendous loud noise when backing up and it's embarrassing. My brakes sound much worse than yours. The sound I get is a lower pitch moaning sound like when a truck backs up. I hate it. Also, I have read that Ford uses really cheap glass on these. It also doesn't help that the window doesn't have much of an angle, so that will make the impact of a rock worse.
Thats Ford for ya. Cheap parts, cheap material, numerous problems and recalls. I had a 2020 Escape which is basically the same everything. 34,000 miles it needed a new transmission. The day I scheduled the appt to get it diagnosed is when the Engine Fire recall about the injectors came out. Cancelled the appt. Drove to the dealer and traded it in. Recall #5 in a little over a year of ownership and a new trans before 100,000 miles i ridiculous. Fords quality is going downhill with no brakes and every one of their models prove it. I went with the Equinox after the Escape and got the 2.0T model with the factory towing. Flawless. Bought it with 4,000 miles and it now has 37,000 miles and not one issue. Mechanical or quality. As it should be with a vehicle under 100,000 miles. I (Family and Friends as well) will never look at Ford again.
A rock hit my windshield - cracked JUST LIKE YOURS. The crack stopped growing… so far… QUESTION: any tips on what to look out for/ pay attention to when having the windshield replaced?
ford bronco sports are not meant for offroading dude 😂 its a light duty suv. Its a unibody as well, so if you want to break it in half, take it offroading!
My brake noise sounds more like a harmonic noise. It started at about 1500 miles and happens about 40% of the time while backing. It seams to be getting worse. Had into ford twice but they couldn’t find the problem now they say it’s out of warranty
LOL. Dude what do you expect with the body flex issue and under carriage? This model was not designed for Uhrockie. It's an Escape SUV essentially. Get a Bronco Badlands or Wildtrak if you have that expectation. Some of the other issues I can understand like the cargo thing and the rattles - that is unacceptable to me.
#6 drives me nuts as well! Do you find that your headlight have dark spot in them? Hard to explain but I guess it would be right on the edge of the low beam pattern and is also there with high beams on, really noticeable in an uphill left hand corner. Maybe the size of a football that is darker than the rest
From what I’ve seen, at least with my 21 Big Bend, on some turns it seems to turn the headlight off and switch to the fog light on the side your turning to, I’m guessing bc it’s brighter and closer to the ground so it thinks it helping? I had a 19 jeep Cherokee that did that. It’s helpful in town, just seems silly to let it do that somewhere your at speed.
The ride height looks aftermarket, what’s your setup? I just ordered mine and I ordered the leveling kit with the spacers but idk what will fit on that setup
Regarding the engine rattling.... put a good oil in it, and it should go away. I just bought a '19 Ranger with the same sewing machine rattle. Some Amsoil XL, and it disappeared .
@@TheBeatenPaths Are you mentally disabled? Simply changing oil doesn't change shit. Even the bottom of the barrel motor oil now is good, oil stopping rattling lol I've heard it all now...
Just picked up 2022 Broncho sport Big bend and loud humming noise coming from engine area after turning off...and even when off, and you open any door, it happens. Goes on for 10-15 min. Normal? What can it be? Can't get service for 4 weeks!
Sounds like the headlight. They seem to be a common issue with these cars. Didn’t have the problem on mine luckily but it’s seems pretty common from the videos I’ve seen. LED headlights have a fan on the back of them to dissipate energy bc they don’t use as much as incandescent bulbs, but automotive wiring has changed much so the extra energy is usually run into a resistor or fan to dissipate it off
I have questions about #4. 1. Does the floor still lift up enough to get the spare out, albeit awkwardly? I'm thinking you could have a rod to prop it up in the event you actually need to get into it. 2. Is the ledge that blocks it removable at all? It doesn't really look like it.
I’m thinking the floor comes out it’s just more difficult with the shelf. Instead of being able to open it fully and lift it out like that you’re gonna have to reach under to get it free and pull it out. There’s nothing blocking it from being pulled straight out if lifted up. He just wants to use it for storage but it’s made to be removed fully to access the spare. If you watch when the floor is lifted up all the way it’s actually pulled out where it would be past the bumper while being lifted
Is the Ford Bronco Sport driver seat low enough , where a person of body height ( 5"10" ) ; can open the driver's door , turn their but towards the seat and just lean back and sit down sideways into the seat ( in other words , do not have to climb into the vehicle by stepping one foot up onto the floor and climbing in ) ?
I test drove an outer banks which has electronic seat height adjustment. It felt low to me so I raised it up. Someone 5’10” probably could sit in it fine from the ground.
I'm 5'9" just test drove both the sport and the nonsport? Actually like the sport better... perfect height for me to get in and out of...less road noise BUT I'm not an off-roader and wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out I want more comfort than I thought lol Did you buy a bronco? I'm on the fence with it.
Thinking about getting this for my family of 4. Havnt been able to test drive it but would you say this is a good weekend vehicle for the family? We live in the mountains and have to deal with snow so I thought this would be a good deal but does it feel like a “chick car”?
I am 6 foot tall, and I need to move the seat back for leg room for me. There is no room at all for the passenger behind me, I mean no room at all. My seat almost touches the rear seat
After almost two years with mine, I can attest to the rear brake noise when backing up, and the fact I don’t have a steel skid plate. I need to get one installed and have it quoted, because the shelf in the trunk was a main reason I went with a base version over paying $10k more for a little decal and 18” rims. I feel like all I need for this baby are a 1.5-2” lift, my grille guard, and that steel skid plate and I’d be happy with what I have. Maybe upgrade to 18s or 21” rims depending on the space allowed by the lift.
Correct me if im wrong but doesnt the Base trim have a 1.5L Turbo compared to his which im pretty sure its 2.0L Turbo which is about 100 HP and TQ difference.
@@BluRadoZ71 You’re correct, base and Big Bend have 1.5L 3 cylinder engines and produce about 182 HP and the badlands is a 2.4L I4 which can produce about 250 HP, small difference in my book, but beyond the added goat modes in the badlands, badlands just has more bells and whistles like fog lights, leather seating, cross bar for the roof rack as optional, etc.
For someone who knows what they want a car to do, TC and other electronics are a hindrance. They charge extra to give you more control over your vehicle. 🤦♂️ Can you imagine trying explain this to someone 50+ years ago? 🤣
@@hrg_tv I have a brand new 2022 bronco sport and I can't stand the rear noise when backing up? Took it to ford and they said nothing is wrong with it. It is so embarrassing.
@@dijanareece9227 so far, the fix I’ve found personally was a brake upgrade. Stoptech z16, z23, or z35 kits are a available, I have the latter two on mine as (z23 on front, z35 on back as z35 are towing brakes) and all my squealing went away. I personally think for just cheaper out on the rotors and pads from factory to make the car cheaper to sell and make. I’ve used the stoptechs on other cars I’ve had with similar squealing issues and they’ve always worked for me.
The left and right fog lights turn on and off when you steer. It’s a “feature” but looks like a defect. If you manually turn the fog lights on they both stay on
2000lb towing capacity. The Maverick can tow up to 4000lb. The Escape was able to tow up to 3500lb. The Bronco Sport is built on the same platform, so why is it so neutered in towing capacity? A Bronco Sport with traction diffs and at least 3500lb of towing, + MPG and price like a Maverick FX4, would have me at a dealership for a test-drive. I have a utility trailer, so I don't need a cargo bed, but I want to get a 3000lb boat, and I have a 50-mile commute in snow country.
Door doesn’t shut right front plastic all broken irritating buzzing noise from interior plastic backing up strange noise hey only 80;000 dollars and 6,000 miles but I really love ❤ this piece of crap 😊
Well, perhaps Broncos were good back when they first came out. But these new Broncos are in many ways not as good as the old ones. Shame they have the BRONCO name. Yes, BIG BEND over, so Ford will stick it to you at a very high price too. 😂
Lately, Ford is "quality controlling" frames, suspension, and engines. Get it "about correct" on all other parts of vehicle. Plus, "omit items when possible". Better than Toyota and GM "planned obsolescence" agenda, weak, suspect engine components.
HRG Offroad of course! The one in the video is a prototype. The production version is powder coated black and comes with stainless hardware. www.hrgoffroad.com/front-skid-plate-for-2021-bronco-sport-badlands/
The skid plate arrived very quickly and was super easy to install. It is very nice! My only question/comment is about using the provided spacers (it is currently installed per directions). I’m guessing your testing showed it was best to keep this separation from the bumper cover, but since it does not triangulate up top - I am thinking about a flush or near-flush installation and possibly modifying the angle to avoid “shoveling” in steep approaches in mud, etc. Thoughts?
Bruh, you’ve trashed this thing. It’s not rated for trails like that. I have one and there’s no way in hell I would put it through the shit you put yours through. It’s just not made for all that. Buy a big Bronco for that stuff and leave that one for your daily.
Ford makes absolute garbage, Ford has real quality control issues. I would like to buy American but the quality is just not there, and if I’m going to spend that kind of money I buy Honda, or Toyota
Hmmmm yours might be a lemon. I’ve had mine going on two years many trips and have out performed my other off road vehicles I’ve owned. It’s also very smooth and quit on the pavement.
And he’s doing it with ease. I watched a video on RU-vid of a 2021 Ford bronco sport Badlands making it up Hells gate on Hells revenge in Moab Utah . It is quite capable for what it is and it is much more than a soccer mom go getter.
