You’re not old, you’re growing up and maturing. I have 3 children in their 30’s and I see the same behavior in them. And believe me, they all really “enjoyed” their 20’s. Congratulations! Looking back on my life, I think the 30’s are the best years. You’re still young but not immature. People will take you more seriously as well. If you were my daughter, I would be very proud of you!

Another thing no one ever mentions is being fat. clothes are more expensive, harder to find and rarely make you feel or look good which leads to more shopping. Getting down to a healthier weight helps you save a lot of money and really contributes to a happier healthier lifestyle. That’s what I’m working on, I will not allow myself to buy any more clothes until I have to replace what I currently own with smaller sizes. Love this vid, I have watched it more than once.

I'm so glad I found you! Fast fashion is something I've definitely given up as I turned into late 20s. It's just not worth it. I've also given up: 1. Super fancy skincare (I invest in the essentials) 2. Regular salon visits (home DIYs are excellent) 3. Looking at malls/cafes as the only way to kill time (and a shitload of money) on a weekend
@asdfghjkl-oo7lv

Yes on #3!!!! My husband and I used to go shopping once a month to kill time (we are from a small town with not much to do). Since covid happened we have been staying home and saving money! Now our favorite thing to do once a month instead is getting something nice to eat at home. It is usually cheaper since we love mom and pop restaurants (more affordable).

This is mostly just your preferences changing. Anyone can say "Hey, give up all the things you love right now and you'll save a lot of money!" Of course I can save money by drinking only water, eating only salad, wearing flat shoes, and living in a studio apartment. However, you'd also find me climbing the clock tower a few weeks later.

I think at least some were also about realizing money's worth (eg. the gym membership). And she even says partway into the video that she's not judging other people for their purchases, but I think it's helpful to hear. I suspect that she has more flexibility in her schedule, running her own business, than she did on Wall Street, which probably helps w/ meal prep and packaged foods. But it's interesting to think about anyhow. As a woman with more textured hair that's frizzier than hers, I definitely do not intend to give up my hair straightening treatments, but conversely I never drank so alcohol was never an expense for me. But knowing how expensive many of the things she mentioned can get, I think it is worth at least thinking about the extent to which one can consume in more moderation, just like w/ meat consumption w.r.t. animal welfare and the environment.

Travelling to be honest is the worst money sink.... unless you are making travelling content as an attempt to earn some income. @@MarcoAshford It's all about the experience for me. The fun while you are young, seeing your favorite artists while they are alive and well. I am sure most who had the chance wish they could have saw Michael Jackson in his prime. I never was the person who went to happy hours, or clubs so as an introvert concerts were definitely my thing. And a whole year in the pandemic the majority have been cancelled so you never know where life goes.

Guys still have their BS they prolly don’t need to be spending money on. For example I know my cousin who loves working out has expensive gym memberships which have diminishing returns after a certain point (once you’re jacked you’re jacked and don’t really need to keep going to the expensive gym thereafter...) he spends a lot of money on protein powder and pre workout which doesn’t really seem to make a difference tbh.

Thank you, Rose, for sharing this. I am very excited about reading through all the comments and getting even more ideas. Here is my contribution: I no longer buy household cleaners, but instead use simple, healthier cleaning options, which are versatile and cost pennies. Vinegar is good for all-purpose cleaning and the smell, which my kids used to complain about, dissipates quickly. I cannot abide the smell of bleach or the fact that it is caustic so Peroxide has become a good friend during the pandemic. I refill a spray bottle and often spray frequently touched surfaces such as light switches, toilet handle, door knobs, etc. Remember to let sit before wiping. Toilet bowl cleaner? Baking soda works better and costs pennies. It also works very well for cleaning sinks both stainless and ceramic. Rinse well. It is also fantastic for cleaning fruit and vegetables if you do not buy organic. Wood cleaner? Make your own by mixing vinegar, water, and orange oil or another essential oil. Bathroom cleaners can be made using Tea Tree oil. Laundry detergent? Pure Castille Soap and a cup of vinegar added to the rinse water.(Buy the store-brand gallon size vinegar for best economy) Fabric softener? Take a pass. Most are too strongly scented and I just don’t need the chemicals against my skin. I use my dryer as little as possible anyway. I love for my bed linens to smell of outdoors. Drying racks are effective in the winter. I place mine in front of the heating vent to add a little moisture back into the air. Saves me running a humidifier. Lawn chemicals? Just say NO. My philosophy is that as long as the yard is green, it’s good. We don’t need to compete with our neighbors. All it’s doing is killing off the pollinators, which we desperately need, and running directly into the water table. The more natural we leave our yards, the more they can be shared by wildlife :) We definitely need far less than we’ve been programmed to believe we need. And much of what we have been programmed to believe we need is very bad for us and downright irresponsible to sell.

Amen to the alcohol! 🙌 i decided to go completely sober at 26 for health and money reasons. Tbh, I’m extremely introverted so I never “partied” but those alcohol costs still add up when you have a drink at dinner or go out to a girls date at a vineyard. I never really liked the taste either except for a select few kinds. I mostly drank from social pressure. Going completely sober was easier than I expected as everyone didn’t really care. I was afraid of the peer pressure but everyone was really cool with it. I also bring my water bottle with me everywhere including on vineyard dates with the girls ❤️

Im so glad I found your channel. I just turned 31 this month and finally sat down to create a spreadsheet about the debt that had been carried over from my 20s, as well as taking a hard look at my spending habits. I probably spend most of my salary on the things you have listed and more, which doesn't help me to met financial freedom and instead doomed me to mainly pay off debt with little to no savings after each paycheck. Furthermore, since the start of the pandemic, I realized that my current savings were not sufficient to help me with emergency fund. I am taking a really hard look at my income and spending, and will need to work extra hard to build an emergency fund. I appreciate your video which confirms that bad spending habits will only make oneself poorer. I hope to save around $20k-30k for the next two years and eliminate the need for discretionary spending which does not benefit me.

But I did spend my money on traveling and on spending 3 months in Korea learning the language. Great experience btw. I'll need to discover how else I can save more money then haha😅

same with me! what is crazy is before i started saving/investment i was a careless spender... i’m sure i spent thousands on coffee/eating out/low quality clothes. now it’s like i can’t even bring myself to spend money. once you shift your intentions it’s crazy how much you save.
@Capernicus19
@Capernicus19 3 года назад
I can definitely relate to a lot of these. I spend a little more on good quality clothes but I buy less and make sure my wardrobe has items that coordinate well with each other, it's so freeing decluttering all that btw. I also don't buy souvenirs anymore, I invested in a good camera and just take photos on my trips and then compile them in a personalised photo/coffee table book. The more we learn about ourselves the more comfortable and accepting we become with the idea that happiness truly does come from within and we don't require such upkeep to conform to standards that actually don't reflect reality or serve anyone.

As a 29 year old I can relate to how I feel when I eat junk. I like how you admit that you still do indulge in certain purchases, because you're admitting to your audience that nobody's perfect and you're also explaining the concept of moderation, which is something that I really need to improve on. This video makes so much sense and thank you for sharing it. 🙂

Impressive, I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don’t need that new Aston Martin or that vacation in Hawaii just yet and that mindset helps me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 100grand in the S&P 500 (with the help of my advisor of course) and made 350k, but guess what? I put it back and traded with her again and now I’m rounding up close to a million. Hoping to get to 2 In 6 months time
