I almost never buy clothing from Amazon. the few times I have, it’s been brand names I trust, like Adidas, Nike, etc. I have a coworker who gets most of her clothes from Amazon, and it’s not to shame her, but they’re just so cheap-looking.
That is very good to know. I only JUST started shopping there, and really haven't spent much. I avoided it for years. Maybe I will dump it again. They keep pushing me to become Prime. Nope. Been there, done that.
While I do love some influencers, I've had to unfollow the ones who promote Walmart & Amazon cheap stuff all the time. This video of yours is so spot on! I've agreed with all your choices and follow the same suggestions and actually saved money along the way. Quality over quantity! Quality is not always expensive either. You can really find some great deals out there.
I don't mind the ones who do a mix of both, as Anna also does from time to time, if they can find a good product at those places for less money. However, I agree, it would be beneficial for all across the board if we returned to paying more for high-quality items (preferably made here to help our economy) and buying less. She's so spot on about leather jackets that are expensive and well-made lasting forever.
You unfollowed people because they promoted Walmart clothing??? Because they cater to an audience who can't afford to shop at Macy's or Sak's??? That's such an egocentric First World thing to say. Shame on you.
I used to have things like "the white button down shirt that every woman must have in her wardrobe", and I think I wore it once and I hated it the entire time. I refuse to buy things just because they're on someone's list of things society expects me to have as an almost 50yo woman. Also, obviously, uncomfortable shoes, and I think I'm kinda over tight jeans, too! Anna, your thoughts on the prints are resonating with me, as well. They just seem to be so specific in wearing opportunities that I think I might lay off them for a bit...
Wow! You hit every nail on the head with this one! I agree with all of these, and I think you touched on two things that I’m really going to concentrate on from now on. 1)I won’t EVER wear shoes that hurt AGAIN (and I don’t care what ANY influencer from any place thinks of my Uggs or my tennis shoes. My feet have been through a lot, and I don’t CARE what they think!) 2) If it’s a garment I have to “fuss with” or keep adjusting. This also includes fabrics that are uncomfortable on my skin (wool and anything with a metallic thread on it drive me CRAZY!) I look back at pictures when I was supposed to be dressed up, and I was miserable AND IT SHOWS. Not wasting the money, and NOT playing the game. Just not. While I’m here on this “Thanksgiving” weekend, I’d like to thank you for your channel, Anna. It’s TOPS and I learn so much, so if you read this, know you have a big fan in me! Thank you, again! ♥️🌻
Dear Anna I must let you know that I have watched the video where you suggested that we should buy only the stuff we are in love with and your suggestion stuck with me ever since AND made my life soooo much easier...... You see I needed to hear it in some other form to clarify things in my head!!! Thank you so much for this!!!
Yes! I fall in love too often, but I think I'm a fickle "lover" - lol. I have to rectify that, as I find that something I "loved" last week is already on the "ex" list.
I thought i was the only one that doesn’t like scarfs a d yet have so many. . I look terrible in pastels as well. Its so liberating to decide that you don’t need to buy everything. It has taken me a long time to realize that. Agree with everything you said Really like your videos. You are adorable
I personally love scarves, but I feel this way about hats. Always want to wear them. Will even buy them! They always look so cute on other people… and mine never do so they hang out in my closet until I need the space and they get passed on 😂
Totally agree on all of these and excellent reminders. No pastels, no prints, no uncomfortable shoes, no faux leather, no cheap sweaters, especially. I live in a very cold climate and I have decided on a couple of cashmere scarves for this winter - black and gray plaid and a vintage blue and brown plaid Burberry one. Love them both.
Hi Anna! I agree with almost everything you mentioned :) except for the lotions - I have been using Cethaphil, Cerave, and Vanicream on rotation for years, and I personally think they are great, and I have a really dry skin myself. Good skincare does not have to be expensive. Im sorry to hear that you have such a skin problem, but im glad you found a solution for it :) Regards, K.
Yes! Please do a video about your shoe collection. I have plenty of 3" heels & boots. But find myself bypassing them, knowing how my feet will feel by the end of the day. I adore how they add femininity to my outfits and will still occasionally wear them. But any tips on how you style kitten heals, flats, and sneakers would be so appreciated! Your jacket, byw, is everything ❤ The gold metal just elevates it to a whole new level. Love it! Thank you for another great video 💕
Zara today have real leather boots 5cm and 3 CMS some 7 cm heels knee high and ankle boots 40% you can get knee high for £70 and the ankle boots are £47.99 I know because I bought some too ❤️ I bought a pair of real leather ballet flat with Mary Jane strap too £24.99 can't beat those prices they had some left about an hour ago
@@ANNAREID29 I would also love that. For some reason I've always loved shoes, but did not consider any 'style' and as a result, I ended up like Emelda Marcos but didn't want to wear most of them! Your videos have really helped me. Thank you.
@ANNAREID29 Yes, please. As a teacher, I'm on my feet all day and can't do heels. I would love to see options to be comfy and stylish at the same time.
There is true freedom in choosing 2-3 colors plus a neutral & reducing the wardrobe to those alone. I am a deep autumn & went with deep green, burnt orange & burgundy- shopping & dressing are so easy now!
I was a vegetarian twice and a vegan once … Gained weight all three times and felt & looked so sick, that people commented on it. But I LOVE animals! WHAT to do? I made peace with the fact that life is unfair and the human experience is fraught with contradictions. I need real food and textiles (looking at you, synthetic anything) that allows me to feel healthy, strong and authentic. Thank you for keeping it real, Anna!
I genuinely wonder why Vegans who don’t want to wear animal products think plastic is a better alternative. I really think if they are convicted on this they should go with natural plant materials and skip the leather look all together. Otherwise they are promoting the look and fashion of leather to everyone who sees them!
Spot on!! Everything single topic I agree with. Done with prints forever- an occasional stripe cashmere t-neck but really, tan, white, winter white , black and grey. I feel sophisticated and classy- but at 70 it was a long process😂😂❤🎉
I bought a real leather jacket online yesterday that had been on my wishlist for a while now. It was an investment for sure but i know my faux one will crack in a few years . I got a good deal on Black Friday .
I will never buy faux leather again either. I had several expensive pieces that have cracked like you said. Some of those pieces were never worn! What a waste of money. Real leather rom now on!
I did have a really cheap black one, I wore it quite a bit because I could wear it in a light rain where I wouldn't want to wear a real leather jacket. Lasted literally 6 months and delaminated. Never again.
I feel the same way about scarves!😂 They look so good on everyone, but are uncomfortable for me! Yes, I would love to see your shoe collection to help me!
I do think prints can be good for accessories (like scarves, which I do like). That way you can try a small amount of a different print or color at a relatively lower cost.
1- Yes, I am so over faux leather. Enough already, at least for me. I never got much into it - a pair of joggers and a couple of maxi skirts from Banana Republic Factory that looked nice and held up really nice, but they were not leather, and I never felt comfortable wearing them knowing that they were not leather. 2 - Cheaply made, poor-fitting shoes - I stopped wearing those in my late 20s. 3 - I've stopped buying "outfits," and now I curate clothing items that add value to my wardrobe. I also have items tailored to fit my body since mass-produced clothing is designed to fit as many bodies as possible, but I want the garment tailored for my body.
I don't buy mini skirts and tube tops or dresses - basically anything that has to hold on you cause of your boobs. not cause I don't have them, but cause they would make me feel uncomfortable and I would just become a hunch back cause of them.
Hi Anna. Thanks for all the great advice in your videos. I'm not an Amazon shopper but people I know who are say it's hit and miss on quality and fit so I don't even bother. I'm big on brick and mortar shopping. I like to see, touch, try on and decide right there. For items sold only online I make sure there's a store near me I can return them to if need be. My closet is not cluttered at all because I'm pretty strict with myself when buying just about anything. I wasn't always like this but learned my lesson after having to wear or donate stuff I regretted buying. Oh yes, PLEASE do a video on shoes! I'd love some advice on brands that are stylish, comfy and good quality. Thank you.
I am in my 70's, and I live in a very dry climate, and my dermatologist told me not to ever buy lotion! I now use the CeraVe cream that comes in a container with a pump, and I absolutely love it!! If you don't want to use CeraVe, which has a lot of great ingredients, then find another but use a cream.🥰
I loved Cerave as well, and used it last winter when I got chapped from the cold. However, be aware that it and many other products (esp. used in "slugging") use petroleum jelly in them. Yes, that is a petroleum product, which is being absorbed by your largest organ, designed to keep toxins out. I have since switched to products that do NOT include petroleum product. They are easy to find, not always that expensive. I did a google, found brands that are actually sold at the supermarket.
@TheMary0831 I know your intentions are good, but I think you might be misinformed. Petroleum products or petrolatum are not harmful. My dermatologist recommends CeraVe and the use of Vaseline on the skin. I also watch Dr. Dray and she has a video that will explain all you need to know about petroleum products and petrolatum.
@@trishac9516 Thanks, I'll look him up. I certainly never healed faster from chapped legs once after sledding as I did by using vaseline petroleum jelly. I used to swear by it! I was kind of aghast when I heard it was a by-product that is toxic. I will definitely research further.
Omg! You read my mind! I’ve done almost everything you listed! No prints except stripes(B&w), Amazon clothing, trendy jeans, and more! Scarves, 8:56 Same for lotions! I didn’t even finish the video- just totally agreeing!
Completely agree! Accepting some things are just not for me (yellow!) and cheaply made…definitely not. Also, love you sharing the Old Goat lotion and beauty bar.
She may tell a joke but she doesn’t tell a lie! Great suggestions, I too, have stopped buying everything you’ve mentioned especially clothes I don’t love. That alone has saved me money and closet space.
Can’t wait for the high rise craze to go away! I’m short on stature and short waisted, and this cut turns me into Urkel, or creeps to a low hanging crotch! This makes finding wide leg pants (which I would like to wear) nearly impossible!
I too don't buy too many print tops anymore, & also pale yellow, I have two nice t shirts I wear in summer, pale yellow & banana yellow, the banana one, I like better. Thanks again for sharing your time with us Ann!
For me, it’s linen. Everyone seems to love linen, but I can’t stand how wrinkled and frumpy it looks on me. I live in FL, so I wish I loved it, but any of my linen items just stay in my closet until I eventually donate them.
I agree on faux leather. As a former vegan, all the faux expensive leather purses and items i bought, fall apart, crack, have to be thrown away. Garbage. Fast fashion.
Unpopular opinion: High waisted bottoms. I cannot be convinced, no matter how many influencers try, that high waisted anything is comfortable (squeezes my middle) or flattering (makes rear ends look 4 feet long). Not doing it. 😅
Ripped jeans look juvenile to me. Leave them to the tweens and teens. Grown-up women don't wear ripped clothes, IMHO. And I think Louis Vuitton bags are ugly. Take away the caché of it being a designer name, and ask if you would still pay top dollar for the bag, or even bottom dollar. Ugly, ugly, ugly!!!
That blue leather jacket is gorgeous, keep it forever. I regret that I got rid of my leather jackets during a vegan stint. How irretrievably stupid. I miss them and could kick myself.
Love this video! I can’t tell you how much I have wasted purchasing items that I thought looked great on someone, but they weren’t really my style so they were never worn. Now I really tried to pay attention to what I love and feels right on me before I buy.
Most faux leather is made from petrochemicals. We can feel real good about not killing a cow for our leather jacket, but if we're depending on the chemical/petroleum industry for it, that doesn't make things better! Thanks, Anna. Happy Thanksgiving!
Also remember, those cows already died. Hides for clothing and furniture comes from animals raised for meat. With the decline in leather goods as people were shamed into plastic alternatives, those hides are still being harvested but are now just being burned or thrown away as there is no market. I know this because my parents raise their own meat, and their custom butcher used to be able to sell all the hides. Now he just disposes of them. I’d rather use a natural material that already exists (less waste!) and avoid the petroleum based plastic leather.
I HAD 2 PAIRS OF CUTE/RATHER EXPENSIVE ANKLE BOOTS THAT DETERIORATED IN MY CLOSET BEFORE I COULD EVEN WEAR THEM! I ALSO WAS GIFTED A CUTE FAUX LEATHER/FUR? JACKET THAT ALSO WAS CRACKING THROUGHOUT THE SHOULDERS AND BACK BY JUST HANGING IT UNTIL THE NEXT YEAR...NEVER MADE IT. SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY. LOVE FINDING GOOD QUALITY CLOTHES NOW.
@@jacquidanke1263i bought this white faux leather jacket years ago from Ross and wore maybe 2x. Went back while later to pull it out and it was cracked all over! I keep forgetting about it, still in closet
@@MissJensk1 they are actually killed for meat. And the byproduct (hide) is then used. Or not. If there is no market the animal is still killed for meat and they burn the hides - which is also not great for the environment.
I had a faux leather Michael Kors jacket that cracked.. I was so upset. I found a genuine leather vintage jacket I thrifted that I’m so happy I found. The prices of faux leather is ridiculous.
I don’t buy anything polyurethane (faux leather), be it garment, shoes, or bags. It deteriorates really fast. I don’t buy faux fur either. I’d rather get shearling and real leather.
Good Luck . It’s Never going to happen . You either charge things on your card and make payments , seemingly for the rest of your life $$$, or you have a rich lifestyle from being ambassadors for items . And get discounts . That’s not the majority of the population. And you’d think if your going to pay $$$ for a piece of clothing , you’d at least be offered a real coupon that actually works .
Please do a video about comfortable shoes that are not ugly. My feet can no longer endure heels above 2 inches and i hate UGGs and those clog things. As a small person, shoes are super important.
Yes some one else that won't buy fake leather you can get real leather for same price and it's so much better for the environment when there do wear out in 30-40 or more years that real leather will rot down in to the soil all the pairs of faux leather trousers I've been through jackets skirts and just because they call it vegan doesn't make it good they all end up in landfill within a year of you buying them and they are not rotting down they will be there forever and every time you wash them plastic fibres end up in our oceans 90 % of plastic in ocean is from polyester plastic fibres faux leather ect... Particles from our washing machine ❤
Instead of vegan leather I buy gently or unused leather items in Poshmark. When I’m in the US I cannot find any items of good quality in stores so I have to search second hand for anything made of decent material
The one thing I will never buy again, even though almost every influencer is saying to buy them, is high waisted Mom jeans. I am 5‘3“ tall. Large busted with a high waist. Mom jeans just cut me off and look horrible. I look so ridiculous and yet everyone is constantly promoting high waist jeans. I bought two pair and ended up having to give them away so never again.
Definitely develop a personal style. Try things on, and think of how the new addition will go with other pieces you already have. I’m also a huge fan of estate sales, thrift stores and flea markets. That way, I can stay on a budget but still look interesting.
My new style mantra: buy LESS clothing - just basics in neutral colors, AND buy more jewelry, shoes, and handbags. Currently I am on the prowl for a pair of low heel, pointed toe, sling backs. In a high quality leather. I do like the kitten heels but I think a 1.5 inch block heel is more of a classic.
I kid you not, I just got a leather jacket in the same color for only $5.00. I also got a red suede coat for the same price. I also stopped purchasing faux leather everything. It’s not sustainable and it wears down after each year. Things I no longer purchase: •Polyester and other manmade fabrics (except swimwear and athletic wear) •Faux leather/suede •Shapeless/drapey tops •Uncomfortable shoes •Hand bags. I used to have a plethora of them and I found them to take up too much space and wasn’t necessary.
I love so many of your choices, and brands, but they aren't made for plus-sized women. And most of the influencers who are plus-sized talk about Walmart and Amazon clothes. What to do? (And yes, lose weight, but ...)
I’m having a harder time buying clothes more than ever before. I don’t like any of the styles you mention here, but I also dislike (and look terrible in) high waisted pants, puffy sleeves, long ruffled dresses, sloppy sweatshirts and cargo pants. Most of all, I hate the garishly bright colors that are in all the shops. I think this summer’s trend can be summed up as “clown.” I hate it. I honestly don’t have anything to wear that is in style.
I’ve had my colours done as well and I find it hard to find things in my size and my colour because I’m so tall. To complicate matters I also prefer natural fabrics. I’ve been buying off Vinted to save money but it’s hard to tell the exact colour from photographs. I’m thinking I’m not going to buy anything else unless the colour is perfect and the fit is what’s needed. I think I may go back to making my own clothes.
I know a lot of people who buy clothes at Target and I am not one of them. The fabric is cheap. It looks old or shrinks after one wash. The cut isn't great either. I have found less expensive clothing at WHBM and Loft on sale. Buy quality. It doesn't have to be designer.
Agreed on vegan leather. I spent 15 years not buying leather, and invested in vegan leather brands like Beyond Skin Olsen Haus, and Gunas amount other expensive brands. The “leather” on most of these items have disintegrated and have made it to the landfill within a few years. I understand not buying leather for animal rights, but in my priorities, I think leather is much more sustainable. 20 years and going strong vs a couple years and off to the garbage. I just can’t anymore.
Not wearing dead animal skin is more important to me than ANY fashion whim. This video is nothing but a shill for those who profit from animal cruelty. And for the record, I have vegan leather items (purses, shoes, jackets, etc) that I bought in the 90's that are still in amazing condition.
I don't wear scarves unless I'm out in extremely cold when it's windy. That's it. They look lovely on other women, but I feel they age me and at almost 65 I do NOT need help with that!!! 😂
jeans, i've stopped buying jeans for a decade now. just couldn't get comfortable in them, and it used to be the de rigeur uniform back in college. the minute i started working after finishing college, i've pretty much stopped wearing jeans. tried a few pairs when i moved here in the US, but once i gained weight, i stopped buying them. i prefer dress pants with stretchy waistbands on them for dressier occasions, or my scrub pants for casual daily wear/errands
Ripped jeans don't look good on anyone, IMO. That is such a flippin ridiculous trend, so classless, IMO. You looked really fabulous in some of the outfits you showed in this video. :-)
It’s great that a lot of what you’re saying is about not buying rubbish. You deserve better, so do the garment workers, so does the planet. Personally I love scarves, though!
Agree to ALL of this! Over the past 2 years I have put more mindfulness into my wardrobe and really gotten to know my style likes and dislikes and why I like and dislike them. Shopping is so much easier when you know your limits, and you actually wear what you love. This is why it's so important to love ourselves as we are! Be your own best friend first and give yourself the love and attention you deserve!❤
I have tried and tried to love scarves and pashminas. I just can’t. It’s not in me. I have one pashmina in a spectacular, rich brown that I wear occasionally, and I have a couple of functional, thick scarves for bitter winter weather, but I just gave away all the others I bought, trying to love them. Also belts. I cannot be a belt person.
Your heels across NYC made me remember a funny career footwear story!!! I’m a nurse, and every day, a dear friend of mine would wear her heels into work…I beat myself up because I didn’t put in the same effort. One day, I finally told her how much I envied her attention to detail, because I just didn’t put in the effort. She laughed out loud and said she called her heels “10 minute shoes” because she could only stay in them for 10 minutes 😂😂😂
I don't buy anything leather just because I prefer not to wear the skins of animals. Nor carry them. That being said, if something only comes in leather I'll do without. Too many other great options out there. As for ripped jeans, they look sloppy and something teenagers would wear. I've never bought them and never will.
Unpopular opinion leather and real fur is “ better “ for the environment yes animals die for your coat, boots etc but if you buy Canadian fur and leather they are trapped based on gouvernement quotas who make sure the amount trapped goes with heard fluctuations and two real leather and fur is biodegradable and not plastic (products used for fake leather and fur) and yes real leather will last longer
