$4 Starbucks coffee every day for a year = $1,440. Cut and color at $150 every 6 weeks = $1,350 Manicure once a month at $25 = $300 Designer purses and shoes = thousands Reclaiming time for yourself that you used to spend on something you hated = priceless

Paula, $300 ! Wow where do you live ? That’s so high. With tips, for wash, color & set/blow dry, it would cost me around $120. With trim ever 8 weeks, about $160. I live in NJ in the NYC Metro area but 4 years ago, I let my gray go out - retired so don’t need color now. I was rewarded with a beautiful shade of white.. I love it but need a haircut cause of Covid. Cannot cut my own hair. The other thing I really love is a pedicure at my salon. Wonderful person does a great job. Used to get three per year. Have t had one in a year & a half. Only $35 + $10 tip. Really worth it.

Dear Sandra I 'm over 60, in fact I'm in the 70 s, and what annoys me is this word banded about since Covid labeling elderly people as VUNERABLE. . It has affected how young people view us senior citizens ! You may or may not agree, but I have noticed condescension and avoidance by the general public particularly young person's. , and being totally ignored, which had not happened pre -- Covid. What this has done is to pick out a certain section of society and pointed them out as to be avoided . I wonder if anyone else also resents also Only ten years ago , I swam at leas 3 miles from one beach to another ., And could cycle at least 50 mike's a day. It was suggested by this government that , we elders are vunerable, and if this were true then even the common cold , would finish us off , but that's not the case. I personally think people are being brainwashed and I see all this as a possible agenda !

I bought my dream home by myself at 32 and bought tons of furniture, had whole kitchen redone, parkay floors throughout, georgeous yard with gardner, cleaning service yes I had a great job with 6 figure salary and lost it all. I had to sell everything and start all over but now I bought a cute home got rid of clutter and stuff and do the same thing you do. I bought a keurig, got a frother, stopped rearranging so funny, no more bags and shoes, cut my hair, bought special hangers from Amazon for organizing my closet and rather see the world than buy more things that really are meaningless. Simple is best..

Just dropped in for the first time. Im definitely over 60. I'm so old my kids are senior citizens. Before COVID I watched and agonized over the news. No more. My son and I came up with the saying that doomscrolling only leads to righteous indigestion. I promised I would paint more and I did and finally painted a seascape that I consider puts me in the category of an artist. I've always been active either having people to lunch or going out to lunch, that when it starts back up will be severely curtailed..maybe a coffee but I can't believe the time I've gained and the money I've saved not doing this. Time is a much more important commodity to me than money. At 80, if I live to be 90 like my relatives, I've just got 120 months left to live! That needs to be spent wisely! I'm a retired therapist and always suggested to my clients that they estimate the months left and then be more focussed on how to spend them. I also decided to groom my own little puppy. Most dogs hate going to the groomers. I had no choice with my 110 lb. German Shepherd but a Maxi poo is as you said, a nice bonding time. I'm increasing time spent on the phone with people I love and some meetings now and decreasing meaningless chitchat with acquaintances. Reading more in books and on the computer much less. More time on the porch surrounded with trees and birdsong and like my friend Jerome, just appreciatin! More meditation and I've decided to journal again which I haven't done for a few years more like an old ladies thoughts on the history I've lived and my response to this journey. Anyhow, my heart hurts for 600,000 lost people but I pray for some sort of peace for their families and focus on what we might possibly learn. Enough said!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments and sharing how you have been spending the time during this Covid lockdown. You and your son have the right attitude about the news and what is going on in the world. Less exposure is more contentment with things we have no control over. Ten things I won’t do anymore - love this! Giving up: grocery shopping (will continue with Instacart), shopping for vitamins and cat supplies (getting them delivered), trying to fit in old clothes (I donate them), crafts that are more hassle than fun, eating out so much, making the big holiday dinners when it’s just the two of us, lots and lots of holiday decorations, traveling for every holiday to see family (some holidays just not all), buying more than one pair of sandals per year, and having outdoor furniture. We live near the beach and everything turns bad the first year we have it. It rusts, it flies around with the wind, the paint weathers, chimes and flags are gone to heavy winds. My deck will look empty like I just moved in and I don’t care anymore. I’ll keep it clean. Nobody sits out there anyhow.

Yay! I have also went back to: 1. Not getting my nails done (or pedicures) 2. Cutting my own hair again after 5 years of going to the hair salon 3. Not rearranging furniture unless I get something new that makes rearrangement necessary 4. Movies are at home now too, and the popcorn is sooo much cheaper! 5. Got rid of most of the purses that were stacked on a closet shelf and always falling off. And shoes need to be purged even more than I have already during Covid 6. I have not entertained since Covid and really don't miss it, so I decided to give away a set of dishes and extra dinnerware that I figure I may never use again. I am NOT cooking my fool head off anymore either. Lol! There is only me here and I cooked enough before my husband of 51 years passed away as well as when we were raising our 4 hungry boys and our picky eater daughter. I'm sure you have realized great savings doing some things yourself as I have. It is also freeing to have more self maintenance instead of thinking like before that we need others to care for our needs. I don't have a pet anymore and sometimes wish I did, but IF I did I know I would do the grooming myself too. Yay for you! Yay for me!

Life certainly has changed for many of us. Working indefinitely from home, I don't need a lot of clothes, makeup, shoes and purses. I still get pedicures because of ingrown toenails. During the isolation, my hair grew so long. I like it. Maybe I will get two trims a year, but that is it. I will focus more on enjoying experiences and not material things. I am happier now, though I do miss my co-workers and friends.

I changed my habit of not contacting loved ones unless they contact me first. I have always been nervous about talking to someone at an inconvenient time, but due to Covid, I have grown more accustomed to sending small messages to show I care. I still feel a bit awkward, but it is always nice to hear from my friends and family. I am also staying with my grandfather and learned that I love to tidy up the house! Yes! After having to clean out my Grandma's house (and she was a minimalist way before it was a thing) and my father in law's house, I never want to leave a huge amount of stuff for someone else to clean out. In the last few years I have let go of around 1/2 of my stuff and am working on it continuously. It is really hard and I see why peoples stuff can get out of control. From gifts and things from other people and things that relatives are trying to give me. It is hard telling relatives that I don't want their stuff as I don't want to hurt their feelings, but I don't want to keep more things. I can work out in my pjs. Also, during Covid, I’ve cleaned my closet and got rid in 3 bags of clothes and one bag of purses. I did a big closet cleanup 4 yrs ago and it took me 2 weekends to do it. The chore was daunting at first but I started with purses first, then tried on every shoes and if they’re uncomfortable, they’re out. Then continued on to one side of the closet to make it doable as opposed to tackling the entire closet. It felt good after I finished it.

I have so much appreciated your outlook on life, it has helped me so much to move forward in a positive way. Thank you so much 💕 x

Oh Sandra, I love this video. I have set myself the task today of going through my closet, not organizing ,but looking at every piece of clothing and those I have not worn in the past year are going in a bag to go to Goodwill. Even writing these words makes me happy. Then the next thing is to get rid of all my purses , most of which I haven’t used in a year or more. Keep well Blessings

Joan, I found that this downtime that we have had has been a really eye-opening experience for me. I’m trying to simplify my life and save money by doing things I could do on my own.❤️

Sandra!! Listening to you again, makes me smile! You narrate all these funny " non doings" with a childlike innocence and manner, that I adore! 💕 I personally, NEVER did most of the things you stopped doing, because I never chose to do them, right from the beginning! I never had delicately formed nails, because I am a born "green finger", and working in my big garden, or being within Nature , is my breath since I was born! Having also curly hair , I always were cutting them by myself! And do not really like ...salons. My own coffee , too , I enjoy every day like you do now! Purses? Just a FEW , one for each occasion! Shoes??? The same!! Etc , etc! But I adore cooking and Nature Photography, too, AND grooming my beloved dog on my own! You see , I am 72, if you noticed in one of my previous comments, and I live in Western Europe!. Of Greek origin! I am happy alone , but not lonely, as I have written in previous comment. Our habbits in our lives are most of the times imposed on us within the cultures we have grown in.. You have ( you used to have ).....cosmopolitan American habbits...But all of us humans inwardly we are ALL the same! We thrive when we LOVE and being LOVED! When we have a home that makes us feel secure and safe! Having enough money to fulfill our needs and obligations. You are BLESSED to have ALL these, plus Wisdom, me, too! I just wish that ALL women of our generations are happy , healthy and prosperous (..which they are not...😒😒).... I PRAY for ALL of them!! I DO!!❤️❣️💕🧚‍♂️🦋🎶

Great idea for a video! Sandra, I cannot STOP the rearranging. It freshens the look and usually some decluttering goes along with that. I hate visual clutter. Lol. I do groom my 2 little pooches myself, always have. I also brush their teeth. I'm glad you started grooming Sophie yourself too! So funny about the closet. It's good you accepted the fact that "it just ain't happening". We have to accept some things we know we won't change. I do keep my closet color coded and segregated by fabric type and short or long sleeves but it still doesn't look all that organized to me. 😊💜

I know I finally just gave up on that closet of mine. Just not gonna happen, but my good intentions were there! I’m so happy to hear that that many of you groom your own pets. Sophia so much happier now that I am doing it for her. Thank you so much and I’m always happy to hear from you❤️

This is the most intelligent video I have ever seen in my hole life. I keep it this simple in many things (cut my own hair, no nails, coffee at home etc). Congratulations for this video. Brillianr

When my son and I moved across the country, we lived in my cargo van for six weeks, and I was going to a new professional job every day. That hugely changed my mindset about how much "stuff" I truly need, because I was so happy during that time! I've been trying hard to get rid of things I don't need and as I wear out shoes I'm not going to replace them until I get down to one pair of each type.

You made me laugh when you confessed that you will never organise your wardrobe. I too have been torturing myself for about 5 years over the same thing, and I’m in my 60's. I haven’t yet given up but will keep my guilt at bay a little longer now! Great video Sandra, you are a beacon of wisdom. 💜

I just found your channel and you are such a breathe of fresh air. Instead of other channels that push buy, buy, buy your list included many things that you will no longer do and permission to only do what you want. Instead of being so materialistic you enjoy the journey. BTW, we have been married 37 years and have only shopped at the grocery about 10 times together. I am mission driven and my husband is a magnet and almost every other aisle someone will stop and talk to him. For your clothes closet an organizer was on Oprah many years ago and he says to take all the hangers and turn the item around and rehang it in the closet. I did that in my closet and after only 5 months I saw that almost 60% of my hanging clothes hadn't been worn. Makes my decision easy and they went straight into the donation bag.

I learned rearranging furniture from my mom - we were too poor to buy new furniture. So it was her way of redecorating. But I suffer for it now pushing furniture around. I also got rid of most of my heavy furniture.
