Sydney and Melbourne both have their attractions. Sydney's only nice around the harbour, everywhere else is just a suburban sprawl. Melbourne has character (in the inner suburbs) with the trees and trams. Brisbane used to be a nice big country town with no traffic issues. Then we got invaded in the 1980s by southerners who bought houses at half the price they were in Sydney/Melbourne. Now Brisbane's just a suburban sprawl with congested freeways and no character.

The Daily Mail article written about this video was done with out my permission and made to put me in very bad light. I absolutely love Australia and my time there was amazing. Please stop getting so butt hurt about an article that I had no say in and no chance to give my comments on a video I made 2+ years ago. Easier to understand IMO. If I'm walking down the street with my family and someone suggests hot chips we know automatically they're talking about 'french fries' or usually the thicker hot chips. If I'm in Coles I can ask my mum for chips (or usually 'a packet of chips') and boom, I get crisps. Not to mention how do people that use the term 'french fries' differentiate between thin hot chips and normal thickness hot chips?

1. There isn't a hole in the ozone layer above Australia, but it is thinner, leading to Australia being more exposed to UV. Next time you say something like that just google it. The picture hat you showed isn't exactly a representation of the hats we wear too . But in primary school there is a general rule of no hat no play. 2. Cold? And it being cold in Sydney during winter isn't that true. We can easily walk around In ripped jeans and your legs still be fine. Sydney doesn't really reach low temps. 3. It's too do with the natural plants we have. And leaves do fall just not off most of our natural plants. And fall is a American terminology for Autumn. Autumn doesn't mean leaves falling. 4. Most places have slang. But yes we do shorten things 5. You are living in Sydney spiders are around but more around country and camping. And cockroaches not really but yet again that depends location 10. The dollar value is also different and our pay rate also has influences and the taxes.

@bumiker

We call it autumn as well, but also use the term "fall" because in most of the US it actually does freeze, as in zero degrees Celsius. The plants that grow in that environment become dormant and the green leaves die and then fall off. In the southern half of the US it stays warm enough in winter (closer to your Sydney temps) that plants that grow there seldom lose their greenery. The gal in the video must be from a warmer area of the states if she thinks 10 degrees Celsius is freezing. haha I've often thought it would be amazing to live where it is warm all the time. Right now I live in southwest Alaska, where it runs about -20 C in the winter.

A lot of houses do have insulation. Especially all newly built homes. Central heating isn't in everyone's homes because the cold weather here lasts for such a short time compared to the Northern hemisphere and some people don't worry about it..As for cockroaches?? I haven't seen cockroaches at my house for years. Maybe it's the house you're living in needs fumigating. I saw more in America when I rented there. Maybe you need to organize getting the place you're staying in sprayed. As for being more expensive, our wages are much higher so it's all relative. I didn't like all the tipping that goes on in America because of the low wages. At least here we don't have to deal with that. Tips aren't expected here. Again as to things being more expensive for you, the American dollar is higher than the AU dollar anyway so you wouldn't have been too out of pocket as a traveller, surely.

Hey! This was a great video! I loved it! I was born and have lived here in Australia my whole life so I found this video super interesting to see what your perspective was! :) One thing though, even though some houses do not have insulation, most houses do. And yes the weather is very extreme. Sometimes, in one day it will be super hot and then suddenly a storm will come and it gets super cold. And also, it's interesting cos we call 'Fall' Autumn hehe cos I think nothing falls. And yes we shorten everything haha! They are called diminutives and often end in vowels eg: avo, arvo, servo, cuppa, footy, barbie, mozzie etc. Oh, yeah and when you said 'We'll be right' the first time I didn't understand ahah cos it was so fast! Lol but yeah we do say 'how u going' and 'we'll be right' all in one short breath. It's almost just a saying. And yasss everything is so overpriced its so sad:( but that mean our wages are high. I live in Melbourne and it's also expensive. Like for example, last night I went to a restaurant and we spent $90 between 3 of us. Also, at 7:25 was that a Miranda Sings impersonation because it sounded similar haha!!

Hey Lizzy, have you heard about the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry yet? When Emily talks about the hot day then cold storm, it's because Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day - right Emily :P In Sydney of course the weather's much nicer :D
@terrybaby6146
@terrybaby6146 6 лет назад
I too have live in Australia my whole live, and whilst I have a name that lends itself readily to several common diminutives, they have not been used outside my immediate family, which did use several variations. Actually, the moreI think about it, very few people I know use shortened versions of their names. Emily May: Wages and prices - which comes first? Although I must admit that I would consider $30/head for a reasonably good quality meal to be moderate.

maybe im immune because i am aussie but this almost completely false or exaggerated. the sun isn't that bad (guys im ranga). it doesn't get that cold; it doesn't snow in most places. autumn (fall) is wet season. we have hot and dry (spring, summer), hot and wet (autumn and cold (winter). yes everything gets shortened. the wildlife is regional. the cockroaches are nothing (maybe im used to it because i grew up with it). this links back to the shortened thing. we were colonised by england and then have american influence. bahahahahah, you must be in the good part of sydney and australia in general. colonised by england, but american influences. it's really not. it just depends on where you go. also please factor in the exchange rate. sorry im done now. im completely biased so yeah

It took me six years to acclimatize to the heat . The change in diet is a factor , in Australia I eat more chicken , fish , salad , rice and fruit . I find the dry heat of Perth much easier to cope with than the humidity of Sydney . I'm always cold whenever I return to the UK . Best advice , Slip on a shirt , Slop on sunscreen and Slap on a wide brimmed hat . Wear your sunnies and avoid the heat of the day 1 - 4 pm . Drink plenty of tea or water and avoid beer as a way to rehydrate.

In terms of the sun, it can be different but the reason is because we are closer to the equator, the sun is more intense, and not only that we are considered a tropical climate, which means that our weather can be all over the place especially with the storms/flash flooding and how different the temperature changes can be in the space of a few days. There was one week where it when from 37 degrees to 22 degrees (98f to 71f)

Why do you Americans always move to Sydney/Melbourne. They are super expensive places to live, in or around the Cities. Queensland is the place to be, 2 seasons, wet & dry. Winter is a joke, maybe a week of coldish days. And the sun is still shinning. A burger with the works, is around $6-7, never seen a $14 burger. (Tell'm there dreaming) Aussie reference. Southern states hang shit on it, because there jealous, but they all seem to move up here. If one loves the outdoors life style, Queensland is the place. And contrary to what southerners say, our arts, dining & coffee culture is as good as anywhere in OZ. So future American stayers, check out Queensland & save some money. Gold Coast excluded from my price referencing lol

"Hey guys! I got a great idea! Lets pay people marginally above the standard living cost so that the capacity for 90% of the population to advance in life whatsoever are essentially 0!" "Why the fuck would we do that to our own people? This is a democracy..." "Yea but sneakers are cheaper! win-win dude"

It's fucking expensive... The food prices there are fking expensive. You need to fix your country and your language because everyone keeps calling me M8 when in fact im not their mate to be mated, if that makes sense.
