My advice: 1) Get a calendar: do NOT write down due dates, write when you are going to do them (ideally before the due date :D) 2) Ask plenty of questions (when appropriate) 3) It's okay to not get all A's, focus on passing... 4) You can totally work during school, it's all time management. Procrastination is a product of too much free time. 5) Nursing school isn't a test of intelligence, it's a test of will.
I love you so much ! This just made me feel like I can do it . I am soo scared because I hear so many stories of how hard nursing school is but now I feel as if I can really accomplish something 🫶🏾
I graduated nursing school last May and my biggest piece of advise to anyone starting nursing school is stay on top of your assignments and their due dates . . . TRUST ME THEY WILL SNEAK UP ON YOU!!! Never be afraid to ask a question; I always tell people that questions are only stupid if you don’t ask them. And always, always remember to advocate for your patients . . . you are their voice when they can’t be. And don’t forget to take care of yourself, because if you can’t care for yourself then you are no position to be caring for others.
@@sebastiananderde5726 hi, it all depends on the route you want to take. There are just plain LPN programs and also bridge LPN to RN programs at various community colleges. You also can do just a two year RN associate degree at a community college, and then do a bridge RN to BSN program to get your bachelor degree. Or you can do the straight four year RN/BSN degree at a public or private university. Although, it also depends on your financial situation as to what you want to do and are able to do. Best advice I can offer is talk to the financial aid department and ask about financial aid options and the various types of loans that are offered through financial aid/accepted by the school and also about scholarship/grant options, and also ask about private loans. And also ask if room and board can included in tuition if needed (if student housing it’s offered on campus). If you able to help cover cost with out of pocket money, that’s even better, because when you’re done this is money you already don’t to pay back. Depending on whether or not you have to take out loans or will have scholarship money or grants (these you don’t have to pay back), these are all factors to consider when deciding on what college you want to go to. It sounds like you want go to a community college and that’s a great option to consider. Just about any community or technical college offers an LPN or RN program. You also have to consider what kind of prerequisites are required to be completed before you can even apply to nursing programs, or if the program will allow to do them while also starting the program. My best advise is to do your own research on some colleges that sound interesting to you, and to also visit those campuses as well to see how you would like them and also while you’re there talk to facility members that work in the nursing department as well as actual nursing students to get a balanced prospective about the kind of program they have and what educational opportunities they offer. Another important factor to consider when looking at nursing programs is to make sure they are accredited by the nursing board in that state or the national board of nursing because sometimes jobs won’t hire nurses that went to schools that aren’t accredited, because those programs are unregulated and who’s knows what they are actually teaching their students. Another thing I looked at when looking at nursing programs was the NCLEX passing rate at that school and also the percentage of students that found jobs out of school within a year of graduating. One last thing to consider is what kind of program options they offer; do they have options where you can can complete the program full-time or part-time on a day or evening basis, meaning do they offer only daytime programs or do they have an evening program?
@@sebastiananderde5726 Yes! I'm going to my local community college for my RN and I intend on finishing up my BSN after in one semester at a university that collaborates with my community college.
@@sebastiananderde5726 I’m going into community college. Ask your counselor, mine told me that my FASA can get me two years of community college for free.
@almaIris May I ask how your full time work schedule worked with nursing school? What additional advice would you give for those that want to work full time during nursing school? Thank you in advance :)
@@elizabethherrera2765 I worked as a medical assistant while I was in LPN school mon thru Saturday and did clinicals as well. I did night class from 5 to 9pm and my clinical would rotate so I would work half days or Leave early and complete my 40 hours working every Saturday. When I was in RN school I was working as an LPN in a doctors office and worked 5 days a week. Luckily I had great managers who understood and helped me complete my 40 hrs a week and were flexible. I had a bit more complicated schedule when I went back for my RN. It's difficult at first to adjust but totally doable. You need to have a good planner and write everything down. My classes would switch every 8 weeks and I would have been lost without it. Organization is key. Learning to say no to family and friends is also important especially is that takes time away from studying for exams while I had to work all the time got me focused on my goal. You can do it!
I felt the EXACT SAME WAY last semester. I'm a second semester nursing student now and I'm excited to start and see my professors again--I've missed them!! My health assessment professor last semester said: "the first 3 weeks of every semester has nursing students wide-eyed, but after that you guys settle in!" Hang in there!! YOU got this :)
I just quit an accelerated nursing program. Nursing School was the saddest experience I had in my entire life. I wish I saw more videos like these before I began, but my experience was probably bad, because it just wasn’t the right time. My advice to anyone starting nursing school is make sure you do your research, watch videos like these to prepare you, talk to a nursing student, and make sure it’s the right time for you. Nursing school is a huge commitment and it can change your life. You might have to give up a lot of enjoyable things you love to do in order to be successful. If I had known then what I know now; I probably would’ve loved nursing. Best wishes for all our future nurses out there! We need you and your much appreciated ❤
Things I wish I knew before starting nursing school 42 years ago. You don't need fancy scrubs,or anything fancy for that matter. Just show up with a huge heart, compassion and lots of determination. I worked for 37 years until two pulmonary embolism took my career. I miss it terribly.
So glad I found this video. I’ve been wanting to become a nurse for years. I’m 33 and a healthcare admin major and just decided I’m going to follow my dreams and stop doubting myself. I’ve let so many creators and friends tell me how hard nursing is and I allowed them to keep me from following my dreams. Not anymore!!!
You are a fresh breath of air. I haven’t even began pre-recs. I’m dialing in what I need to be prepared for. I’m almost 30, and have so much fear in starting “late”, missing other opportunities of life. I appreciate your encouragement. You are the best!!
I’m turning 29 in a couple of weeks and I’m in the same boat. Career change and going back to school is scary! But it’s also exciting! We can do hard things!
I really appreciate you saying you can work/raise kids while attending nursing school. So many people I’ve had to dismiss their opinions based on that alone. Great info overall, thank you!
Hoping to be a RN some day with God by my side. Being a mother of two kids, I know is not going to be that easy but I believe is doable. Your video is so encouraging. I like that person comment that said nursing is not a test of intelligence but test of will
This is the most gentle video I have seen on RU-vid talking about the Nursing experience. The rest always sounds like there is a world domination of aliens coming to kidnap us. I start nursing school next year, so I am getting prepared mentally and physically. Great video. Keep it coming.
I love how positive this video is, some of these types of videos are even more overwhelming ❤️ I’ve been so nervous and this is so reassuring! Thank you for all of the tips and I can’t wait to get started in a few weeks! Good luck on your last semester ☀️
I am glad that I stumbled across this video. I am 16 units away from entering the nursing program. I am a boy mom and hearing that parents can maintain life balance means a lot. god, bless you for this wisdom. coming from a pre-nursing student.
The purple scrubs are giving me Registered Nurse RN vibes and I love it! Going to be starting my third semester of nursing school this semester, and this is exactly the video I needed to see. It made me reflect on how far I’ve already come and all of these hurdles and challenges that I had to face that I thought I could never overcome, yet I did. This was such a positive video and just what I needed in order to feel ready to tackle third semester. :)
I am just starting my nursing journey. I’m in my prerequisites right now. I needed to hear this. Thank you so much for posting this. I’m working full time and I was worried. Again, thank you.
Your last tip was very reassuring, I have been doubting myself recently just because people say nursing school is impossible, and super difficult it makes me question if I am going to be able to do. ❤️
Omg this is so encouraging! I’m a mom and I NEED to be able to work while I’m in school so hearing someone say that is possible is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Thank you for making this video. I'm scheduled to start a nursing program in May, and I'm nervous about it. Watching this is putting me at ease and giving me a better idea of what is to come and how to prepare for it
I'm seriously considering getting a BSN as a second degree, and this really helped me know what to expect. I talk to an admissions counselor tomorrow. The thought of going back to school is really exciting to me. Thank you for all the encouragement!
This is the first video I have seen where there is nothing but positive energy and advice and I want to thank you! You don't know the impact you have. There is just so much reassurance and relaxation in your voice! ❤
Very sound advice! Two tips I have about exams: 1. Trust your gut! Usually your first instinct is correct, but read the questions carefully, especially with priority setting questions. 2. For dosage calc, READ .READ. READ. VERY. CAREFULLY.-- do you need to convert your answer into tsp? mg? mcg? IS the question asking for amount for 1 dose? Or for 3 equal doses? etc. Are they asking to round to the nearest whole number, nearest tenth or nearest hundredth? Know your conversions! One thing about working... If you're in an accelerated BSN-RN program (12-18months), be mindful of working!! Accelerated programs are fulltime/double full time jobs and unless you're working PRN for like one day a week, it's not worth it, IMO. I know several students who failed classes because they worked and didn't allocate their time appropriately, which just throws your hard earned money down the drain.
This is golden. Thank you for your advice full of wisdom. I am passing nurse school at the moment, but I am struggling because I am still working a lot and have children.
Thank you for taking the time to create this video! I am a mom of 5, working part-time and will be starting nursing school in July. Your video made me feel so confident in my decision. Thank you again❤
I agree with you. I’m a stay at home mom currently, and I am about to enter nursing school. I’m diving in head first because I know this is what I need to do to better provide for our family and I’m completely dedicated to making my kids lives even better! They had me for their most important developmental years, and now they’ll also have a mom who has a great career helping people and providing for them too. It’s totally different when you have kids. You’d do anything come hell or high water. You’ll make it happen even if it kills you. Life doesn’t end at kids, it’s just beginning!
I’m starting nursing school in august and I’m nervous that it’s gonna be too much and sometime I think I won’t get through it but video like this make me realize it’s all about time management and effort and studying as long as I do those I should be good.
I've not started the classes yet but I'm planning to do Nursing. I'm very happy that you have given me the energy and positive mind that i needed. With what you've just said, I'm sure that I will do well in nursing. Thanks so much for the video.
Really appreciate your positive video. Spoke to a senior in nursing school today and she told me I would fail and nursing school is hell. I shouldn’t even try. I cried for hours and thought about leaving. But I’m realizing I’m good enough for this and I can’t feed into the negativity. ❤
I took all my prerequisite for nursing but never started the nursing program because I have to work full time and wasn’t sure if I would be able to do it. I ended up doing the surgical technologist program and completed it. I graduated too. Just waiting on my certification results. 🤞🏻
One thing I will say about having kids and school. Not necessarily nursing school but I went and took my grade 12 after having my kids, alongside other people my age, I HAMMERED it out! And they always said something to the effect of "man you never pick your head up you just work away I don't get it" because my theory was if I am losing time at home with my kids, then I'm going to make it worth my while and work my butt off while I'm here. So I got my grade 12 (it was basically grades 7-12) done in a year instead of two. This year I'm going to upgrade my courses I need to academic levels while working my pt job so I can take LPN next year! So. If you've got kids, you can do it! It's hard, but it's so worth it. Remember who you're doing it for
This helped so so much! I am a sophomore in hs rn and want to be a pediatric nurse. I am doing a nursing program through my hs and basically next year (my junior year) i take a nursing class all year and then my following year (senior year) i’ll be doing nursing school. I will tenically be a freshman in collage and doing all the collage classes! so nervous but so excited to do my dream job- hopefully!
Time management is most important. Do a little bit of something everyday. Write down all the due dates on a physical calendar so you can see them. Then work on that paper or study for that exam a little bit everyday. Won’t need to cram the night before.
I start nursing school next week and this is probably one of the first nursing videos I’ve watched that did not make me extremely anxious and scared to start. It actually made me super excited. Thank you!
I'm signed up to take my pre-req classes for this semester and I'm so nervous because I'm transferring from an art school to this! Art school is VERY hard but in a completely different way and I'm so nervous I won't be able to adjust back to this type of learning, but this video helped calm me down a lot lmao
I’m so glad you talked about lab. I’m start nursing school this fall and I was so lost when one of my professors told me that would I have lab on Monday’s & Wednesdays😂 I have probably watched close to a million nursing videos lol and I’ve never heard anyone explain what lab consisted of…so thank you for that!
As a re-entry mom of 3 kids under 8y and a working birth doula, I appreciate your encouragement about working moms! Pre-nursing is going well, but def nervous for the real deal, lol.
Great video! Most important thing is to time manage, get a calendar and stay motivated. It is a grind that comes with many benefits. We are travel nursing and have never looked back. Amazing career!
I always love watching your videos! You’re a reason why I’m so excited to start nursing school in less than 2 weeks.. ahh!! Thank you so much for showing us your journey because it helps so much ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this video. This is really great advice and I feel inspired by you. Wish you and everyone else here in the comment section the absolute best. We all got this! 💗
I definitely needed number 9 😍.. Hopefully I will be starting nursing school in January and I’m already planning how I’m going to work and everything. I have almost 7 year old daughter. I sat out of school to raise her now that she is a little older things are easier. I started back taking classes Fall 2019 and now I’m applying for nursing school. I’m super excited and nerves but she’s my biggest motivation 🥰 but thank you so much for number 9 I really needed that 😘
I’m supposed to start nursing school in September. I’ve been so scared that I’m going to fail and I won’t get to have a social life. This video has helped so much - thank you!
Question for everyone, how did you guys have been hired in a job even though you guys are in nursing school with or without a rigorous class schedule? So basically, what kind of establishments can hire students (especially in nursing)? Because I am struggling looking for a job that can hire students nowadays especially my class schedule can cut off the hours of what the most employers want me to be scheduled at work.
I start my first semester on Monday. I love all of your videos they truly do help and I just bought so much stuff on amazon that you have recommended! I am super nervous. Thank you for the positivity it helps greatly! ☺️☺️☺️💕
Hey there, thanks for the video. This summer I started getting my pre-reqs done for nursing school. I know for getting into a program grades are critical, however I haven't heard a whole lot about the importance of grades/ performance while actually in the program. You touched on the grading scale a bit in the beginning but as long as you pass your classes, what is the importance of a grade while going through RN school? Thanks!
My first skills was head to toe too lol. That was the only one in person and the rest you record at the lab so I am thankful I don’t have to be in front of anyone. 😩 love your videos and your content!!
This video was so sweet of you and reassuring. I will be starting nursing school next month and I have been so anxious and excited about starting yet I question myself like wow am I really getting ready to do this? What if it’s too overwhelming? all those little things but I must say this video has put a smile on my face and I’m grateful for your advise and I plan to keep all those tips in mind thanks so much girl and congrats to you for making it through!! 👏🏽 🎉
Newbie here: for two years I’ve been wondering should I go for LVN and today I met with the reps. My aunt told me it’s challenging but I know I can get through it , when I want something I go for it. I’m not going in negative because I really want this for myself. I went to medical assistant school and did amazing. I just know It won’t be easy all the time but once I’m interested and studying it’s like everything just goes into sync. I work 10 hrs 4 days out the week so I’m hoping I get a good schedule because I don’t want to miss anything. I’ve been watching vids for a minute and you have the best one tysm for this it definitely gave me the mindset I needed ❤️
Thank you for this video! I’m about to start Nursing school this Spring 2022 (Feb 7). I’m soooo anxious to the point where I feel like I’m about to throw up. 😅 thank you for the encouragement!
I'm 33, in the middle of a marriage separation with two kids (one of whom is autistic) and have no college. I want to be able to support my kids... I'm scared shitless but I'm gonna go for nursing. Its the only viable career outlook that has a program near my support network. Ahhh 😬 Send good vibes into the universe for me!
Great video I definitely agree I feel like when it comes to work it’s a hit or miss some people can some people can’t but it just depends on a few things but pull through y’all it can be done!
Thank you. I've been beating myself up thinking I'm not smart enough to do this. I've finished all pre req classes. Now it's time for my teas, and I've changed my mind so many times with self dou ts. I have a learning disability which is part of why I haven't started along with stress and working. Is it possible to get a tutor or a mentor to help me along the way to help me fully understand it? Because I know the instructor won't have time for one on one's. Pointers please
I am a sophomore in highschool right now and I am about to go into a CNA program in august. I’ve been pretty good at school but I do have my times were i find myself having lots of anxiety before a test. What are some ways you calm your self down and prepare for a test? Do you use Flashcards or anything to help you memorize?
