As someone that wears modest clothing, I have a lot of skirts. One suggestion for your closet is investing in skirt hangers. They will hang so much better in your beautiful closet.
Lady, you need to wear that capelet! Adorable, looks so good on you, and you can wear it anywhere. I came around to the idea that my "fancy" clothing should be enjoyed every day.
I just want to take a moment to thank you for being such an inspiration. I have felt for years that I should wear mostly dresses, and you gave me the courage to make the switch. This isn't to disparage those of you who choose to wear pants. I have just felt called to a different choice. Now, sometimes, I have an activity where my instinct is to wear pants, and I think, "What would Megan do?" And I find a skirt, and perhaps leggings, and get it done!
You should try skirt hanger 👌😄. Once I bought some never went back to folding skirts on regular hangers again, is looks so nice, neat and organized 🥰. Looking at your closet make me want to clear mines up a little 👌😳
If dawn doesnt take a grease stain out, I try rubbing the spot with a piece of chalk, let it set about 30 minutes & wash as normal- it often works (chalkboard or side walk chalk) 🙂
I have a tip for missing buttons like on your chambray shirt. Just take off the very top button (since you probably don’t ever button it clear up anyway) and put it in the missing buttons spot.
Hey, I thought that brown sweater looked good on you. lol. Thanks for the motivation to de-clutter my closet. I'm downsizing my living space in the next year, so some things just have to go.
I have some dresses that I love, they either have a fun colour or flair out in a cool way. I sometimes see people eye my stomach or hips, like they stand out too much in these dresses. Although I definitely have dresses that I look 'better' in, I keep these ones because they make me happy - things that you love even when others give it the side eye should be a category!
I felt like you were speaking right to me! I have so many pieces in my closet that actually give me anxiety with the way they fit. Thanks for the tips! Now I have to go through my wardrobe... 🤔
I just cleaned out my closet so this video really resonated with me. About the seasonal clothing - living in the southern US, all clothes are for all seasons so they stay together! Thank you for the advice!
I needed this video today too. I plan on organizing closets this weekend. This year, I gifted all my fancy work clothes to my friend who just graduated college. I have a classic style so its all still in instyle. It felt so good to bless her with it.
Just did a big closet clear-out! My big tip is to have someone you trust help you. My husband was ruthless and it was great! There was an entire section of dresses I never wore but didn’t know why until he said they looked like tablecloths! 😂
Thank you so much for giving me the courage to ditch some of my stuff that is too small and I never wear! My closet can fit in the corner of your closet and you would still have room!
I really like the point you made that everything in your closet should fit and be ready to wear. GREAT idea! I just de-cluttered my closet but now I really need to re-think the clothes that are too small or uncomfortable in some way or another. I think there are a few pieces that can still go! Thanks, Megan!
For the skirt with the grease stain you should try this method, it hasn't failed me yet and works on old grease stains! On the dry skirt, rub in green palm olive dish soap directly on the stain. Rub some in a squirt or two at a time until it is really saturated and meshed into the fibers. Then just wash like normal!
I think you are getting rid of a couple tops that look great on you...the new brown sweater and the Target top that you got at a thrift store both look very nice! The skirt you say you love but got grease on can be easily cleaned, I think. To clean grease off a garment, wrap the grease spot around the tip of a spoon and lower it carefully into a small pot of boiling water. I usually put a small drop of detergent on the grease spot and rub it lightly. Just quickly dab it into the boiling water, then wipe it flat on a towel. Repeat if it doesn’t all come out the first time. When I have a favorite top that is worn and “pilled” I wear it for house and garden work. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Megan, I’m not not as young I’m sure as most of your viewers, but have learnt over the years not to be too hasty in clearing out my clothes even if I’ve already hung on to them for some time . No sooner do I eventually find a new home for them, and they come back in fashion or I find an occasion to wear them. Bad move. Anyway have fun sorting your clothes whatever strategy you take 😊
@@MeganFoxUnlocked thanks for your videos. You look lovely in the clothes U wear It's given me encouragement to be brave to wear dresses &skirts more often.
These are such great tips. I desperately need to go through my closet. The back half are clothes I want to fit into, the front half is clothes I actually fit into. I just wanted to tell you that I am really enjoying your channel. I found you during the pantry organization and have been thoroughly enjoying your videos.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I am transitioning from jeans/slacks to skirts/dresses. I am starting all over and now have a lot of purging to do. Living in Texas and menopausal, I don't wear heavy sweaters anymore. My closet is very small so I keep all seasons together. Thank you your great tips.
Not sure if someone else has already suggested this, and I know this may not bee your cup of tea; but for the skirt with a grease stain, if I really liked it, I would use some yarn and a big needle to make a big flower over the stain, maybe add some more in different colours so that particular flower doesn't stick out. For the worn out clothes, I might use as a rag, depending on fabric. Buttons and zippers are easy to replace if you really love something.
These were really good ideas on how to declutter. If you have a Dollar Tree near you you can go and get that bottle of that orange cleaner. I forget what it's called, it's in a big bright orange bottle and it's only a dollar and it will get the grease stains out of that skirt. You just spray it on and leave it for a bit then wash it. You might have to do it once or two times but it will actually take the grease out. It didn't take the colour out of my clothing so hopefully if you try it it it won't take the colour out of yours.
I just bought the rechargeable fabric shaver off Amazon and my husband says it’s my new favorite hobby lol - I use it on everything! It was hands down my best purchase of 2020!
I totally hear you about grease stains! 😫 I hate them, especially on my favorite clothes! The good news is, I actually learned how to take them out! No matter how long a grease stain has been there you can most times get it out. What you do is put a generous amount of dish soap on the stain and then pour really hot or boiling water over it (as hot as the fabric can handle) and let it set for a couple minutes. Then you throw it in the washer and it comes out. At least it normally has when I’ve done it. There could be exceptions but I think it’s worked for me every time. I hope this helps!
Thank you. I'm continually decluttering so I appreciate your "10-step program." Very helpful. Also though I do try to please my husband, it's encouraging for you to say we can sometimes wear what we like even if maybe it's not the most flattering. We just like it.
I feel like I’m always amped to get rid of clothes and then when it comes to actually getting rid of them I end up keeping things that I “might” wear again. I may have a problem...
Just watched this a second time when I was finally able to put the tips to practice! Super helpful; especially, have your closet so that everything in it is an option! Thanks so much!
Great advice all the way through! The thing you mentioned about colors is legit. Wearing colors that go well with your skin tone and natural coloring is key. I always get more compliments on how I look when I "wear my colors".😁
Decluttering my clothes is a project that I have been working on recently. Thank you for the tips and inspiration! I can't wait until I'm finished, I know it's going to feel so good!
I hope you are keeping that gray skirt with the stain. I always forget to keep clothes that I don't mind getting stained or dirty. When I decid to paint or I have to help someone paint or I'm cleaning with bleach I have nothing to ware that I'm willing to get dirty.
I just stumbled across your channel. I grew up Mennonite as well and went to Christopher Dock High School in Montco Pa I just watched your video from last week and some of my favorite memories as a child was fellowship meals after church 😄 I subscribed !!!!
Did you know that a lot of people with fibromyalgia tend to be extra sensitive to the tags in clothing? I have been rubbed raw by a tag in the back of a sweater. I am so happy that manufacturers are now printing branding information directly on the garments! Of course, making your own clothes would nip this problem in the bud.
As far as the skirt with the grease stain, try blue Dawn dish soap on it. Put it on, rub it in a bit, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then wash as usual. I wouldn't dry it in the dryer, but see if the stain comes out. If not, put Dawn on it again, and do the whole thing over again. And it can just be washed the next time you do laundry...you don't have to rush to wash it right away. I have put Dawn on at the beginning of the week and let it sit the whole week before washing. It might take a few washings, but sometimes the grease comes out, even if you dried it in the dryer and think the stain is set.
For your grease stain on your skirt, add some foam dawn soap to it and let it sit for at least a couple of hours! Then go back and scrub it with more dawn and it should come right out after the washer 😁
For the grease stain, treat it with dishwashing liquid... let it sit for about 2 hours then launder as normal. It should come right out! It even works on very old, set-in stains.
Try coloring that grease spot with white chalk really well and then wash it. It works like magic for me. I keep a box of chalk right with my laundry soap. It somehow pulls the grease out.
Thank you for this wonderful video. It's definitely given me some motivation to go through the clothes in my closet. It's been way too long since I've done that.
Have you tried using Dawn on the grease stain? My husband and I both work in restaurants and deal with grease stains weekly. Blue Dawn is the only thing that works! Just use it like a spot treatment and toss it in!
Megan, if you enjoy decluttering and down to earth "mommy" minimalism, I really recommend checking out Natalie Bennet's channel! Her videos are beautifully edited and she and her family are so sweet. She does a mixture of decluttering, day in the life, and fashion videos and she is not shy about her Christian faith.
Thank you for the recommendation. I am a new subscriber and am Muslim so relate to everything and modest dressing as well as that my faith is my way of life. Whichever faith we follow we should be proud of it.
Sprinkle some baby powder or bath powder on the greasey stain on the skirt, rub the powder in until the spot is gone and brush off excess powder. I have done that several times. Peggy T.
Just a suggestion for the grease stain, I have those sometimes on my clothes but if you spray a little dry shampoo or baby powder on it and let it sit a few minutes it should brush out! Hope that helps!
I love to repurpose clothes that are too worn, as cleaning rags! With two children I know that material is not going to waste! 😓 I’m struggling with getting my wardrobe right because I’ve been pregnant a few times and my body changes with each one; but also, people keep asking me to dress differently and it drives me mad!
You did a great job of coming up with categories of things that can go! Amazing how many reasons there can be to filter one's wardrobe. Actually loved the large floral on you. Perhaps with some things, you should get a second opinion before you toss, because sometimes a person doesn't realize how things look to others. There is just the right amount of pop of color in that floral and it looks great with the black skirt. Someone also mentioned the capelet. And brown IS a color that flatters your skintone from what we see on the video, so that sweater will probably bring lots of compliments if you make yourself wear it.
I am minimalist with my closet. I own 40 clothing pieces for all 4 seasons. I wear all pieces regardless of season, I just layer based on weather. I'm in Canada 🇨🇦...
Try putting some dishwashing liquid (Dawn or similar) on that grease stain on the gray skirt! It works wonders on grease spots even after they've been dried in the dryer! Just put it on, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and wash like you normally would. Worth a try anyway!
Next time you launder the skirt with the grease stain, throw a dishwasher detergent tablet, or a scoop of powder in there with your usual detergent. DW powder is designed to dissolve grease and oil, I've saved many a shirt and tablecloths doing that.
Most of my clothes are too big, but I cant be bothered to replace them. My entire wardrobe is black, grey, and magenta (with like 3 exceptions) I can blindly grab any top and bottom and know they will match.
