It was a sad day when one of my favorite stores morphed into "Dollar and a Quarter Tree." Thanks for pointing out these particular non-deals, Matt; inflation is a killer, especially those on fixed incomes, so we've got to pay close attention.
@kimberlypatton9634
@kimberlypatton9634 2 года назад
It kinda felt a bit like we were conned for a while before they waited to squeeze that extra quarter out of us....not seemingly such a big deal all that much ,but when you own Dollar Tree,those quarters add up on the grand scale...And it just made me a bit more discerning ,this tactic seems even more sneaky and deliberately intentional since the vibe is coming through that they're slowly adding merchandise that is a higher $5 ,$10,$15. Price point to shmooze us like it's all innocent! Being a veteran of management in retail for lots of years,I can spot the game from a mile away,and it's not wrong to be in business to make money,it's just the slight tinge of being roped in for a chump in a way ..But I will still get a good deal for my $1.25.Money doesn't just get handed to me free these days .

One Dollar Tree find that folks might want to know about, is the Sensitive teeth toothpaste. Not only is it a lot cheaper but it doesn't have that nasty sodium lauryl sulfate that causes reaction (chapped lips) to some folks. The active ingredient for sensitivity is the same as the name brands.

With prices skyrocketing on everything, people need to save everywhere they can. What not to buy is a great series! Also, another idea I got while watching this, and sort of a spin off of this series: Where to buy your supplies for...1) cold/flu season (tissues at Aldi's, OTC meds at x, cough drops at x); 2) holiday baking (flour at x, sugar at x, decorations at x); 3) holiday decor (lights at x, figurines at x, outdoor blow-up lawn decorations at x); 4) etc.

I was really shocked when Dollar Tree didn't follow Five Below's way of business model of different prices. DT did not have to raise the price of everything in the store at the same time, which as people have mentioned in the comments, is 25 percent on all their inventory. Canned goods, candy, pasta, etc .. still could have stayed at a dollar. I think they got greedy and it will burn them in the long run, as those extra quarters really add up quickly.

I came to this same conclusion about baking mixes. Then saw Walmart came up .39 to eclipse them and that the 99 Cent Store had also cut a lot of .99 cent items in favor of 1.49 items (and so interspersed it was a nightmare reading the tags). In the cereal segment I saw to the left Dairy Pure shelf stable milk. And as a big milk drinker I can tell you that this is EXCELLENT quality milk! Better than a lot of store brand refrigerated milk! Unfortunately not all DT stores carry it, I found it once at one of my 5 stores, I bought a bunch of it, but have never seen it again. Some DT stores (none of mine! 😠) carry Gossner shelf stable milk, which is the same milk as Dairy Pure. And that info comes directly from Dairy Pure! I just ordered a case of Gossner from DT, it cost me double the in store price with shipping 😠. PS: Wal-Mart's spring water may be only $1.08 for a gallon, but it does not taste very good.

YESSS thank you for this one!!! so many of us in the DT community have been compiling all sorts of price comparisons now that the price increase went into effect, like you gotta strategize these days and there's constantly shortages so if you can only make it to one store in your area you wanna make it count and make sure you're getting the best price. Walmart and Dollar General let you see ahead of time what's in stock online and in their apps so you can plan accordingly and won't waste gas driving all over trying to track things down. I'm still waiting for more wow factor items to show up for that 25cent increase at Dollar Tree though, and I'm not impressed by the Dollar Tree Plus stores with their $3 and $5 offerings. But it'll take some time. However, fun fact, Dollar Tree seeds are still 4 for a $1 because it's printed on all of their packaging! It should ring up that way automatically but it doesn't hurt to point it out just in case ✌💓

I don’t know if anyone has already mentioned this, but at Dollar General you can get a 16 oz. box of baking soda (a great non-toxic cleaner) for 55 cents, which also beats Wal-Mart’s pricing. This video is so funny to me. Usually you're so jazzed about telling us about deals we SHOULD be buying. Now you're waving us off at Dollar Tree. And I'm glad. I just find it hilarious that stuff that you used to recommend are now on your DO NOT BOTHER list. I love it.

Good on you for pointing out the price differences now that the $1.25 is in effect at Dollar Tree. In my personal shopping, however, more and more I find myself buying my usual items wherever they are available! The stores where you live seem to be well-stocked, but near my house, if something I need is actually on the shelf where I am shopping at the moment, I'm likely to go on and get it, "while the gettin' is good"! Too often, lately, waiting for a better deal at the next store is a risky strategy, as they may be sold out of that particular thing.

With the price increase at DL. I won’t be shopping as much as I used to, because like you said. A lot of items could be purchased at Walmart, DG, and Target. Thanks you Matt for your videos. Ohhh my! The DEAL GUY just homeschooled us! I have shopped at DOLLAR TREE for so many years for many of the products in this video. Even when the price went up to $1.25, I continued to shop there, thinking it was still cheaper than other stores. I am SHOCKED at the price differences. It may not look or feel like a lot of money wasted here and there but AFTER A YEAR OR MORE... its certainly a waste. I will now pay better attention to what I buy and compare prices and products often. Thank you for this informative video. I honestly didn't realize how much I needed to watch it. Also, GREAT LAVENDER SHIRT! 😊 Thank you for taking the time to educate us with what's a deal and what's not! *MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY!* Peace, Lynne 🍃💜🍃

Great video, thank you! I love D/Tree, but the new prices are a drag. I just went to Dollar General today, stocked up and compared some prices. Some items that I used to get at D/Tree, that are still $1 at DG: paper towels, tinfoil, gallon zipper bags, tissues, plastic forks and spoons, small trash bags, and dental floss. You can do even better if you have the space and cash to buy in bulk (6-pack of paper towels for $5), but that depends on your situation. Our local DG is a little further than D/Tree, but if I only go 1-2x per month, stick to a list, and bundle it with other errands, I think I'll save in the long run. One bargain at Dollar Tree that hasn't changed - they carry our local newspaper for $1, which is even lower than the marked price ($1.50 for the weekday and $2.50 for the weekend).

I LOVE Awesome cleaner! One bottle has lasted me years! You can even buy the gallon size and wash your vinyl siding. I've done it...get a sprayer, dilute 50%, spray on and leave 10-15 minutes and rinse with a hose. It works so well.🙂

I appreciate the dollars and cents behind this if it's something you want to stock up on. I don't have a Walmart, Aldi or other store close by so you'd have to consider your time & gas is worth something if it's a one off item.

I truly appreciate your wisdom and caring. For those who don't understand the fuss of " it's just a quarter more!" Listen it's a 25% increase with many name brands gone and sizes cut it's no longer a great deal. I depended on Dollar tree for my cleaning supplies, clothes and food spending @$75 a week with it now costing @$97 with 25% increase plus more being taxed for @$88 extra per month. I'm glad they now have greater crafting and clothing options but, I am sourcing much MORE elsewhere. Appreciate the Dollar General tips since I don't look there.👍😘 💲 Tip: the Loma Linda packet entrees are only $1.25 at Dollar tree but, $4.95 at most health food stores and they are unique, healthy and super delicious. Usually in canned tuna/ meat section. Jennifer's Garden Spring Rolls are restaurant quality ( better because you can bake til super crispy not fry!)

I’ve been a loyal Dollar Tree customer ever since they came to our area in the late 1990’s but like many of life’s friendships this loyalty has come to an end. 😞 I “get” why DT had to increase its pricing, but for those needing to watch their budgets doing a little sleuthing will keep more money in your pocket.

With the compare to prices you quoted from other stores it would seem that it’s always been cheaper to shop around elsewhere for same price or cheaper before the .25 cent price hike. I too love Dollar Tree especially for seasonal and party decor plus few other items that they have as a special buy. Although not all stores carry same items and with higher gas prices it’s not worth it to shop around at other Dollar Trees for that particular item. Thanks for video!

I was just at dollar general on Friday and realized they have better prices for the same products at dollar tree, then I see this new upload a couple days later! Perfect timing, lol. I loved the other comparisons such as the brownie and hello mixes being cheaper at Walmart and Aldi. This video is much appreciated! I ended up spending over 90 dollars at D Tree a few weeks ago, those quarters so add up super fast!! And the quality has gone downhill, sadly.

Thanks, Matt---this video is very helpful! I think you could do this kind regularly. It may be "only" 25¢ more at Dollar Tree now, but those quarters add up, and we're all pinching pennies even more these days. In some ways the price hike at DT has meant higher quality merchandise as far as their seasonal and special buy/close out from big retailers is concerned. For the more everyday stuff, yes, you have to be more judicious when deciding what is a better deal there vs other retailers.

Thanks Matt! Love your channel. I used to buy a lot of common every day items from DT but with the price increase that has change tremendously. I try to pay attention to prices anywhere I shop so I know where not to shop. A fixed income definitely changes things. I hated to see elderly people loading their buggies at DT with canned goods at DT even before the price increase but especially now since the price increase. I still go to DT but I definitely do not buy as much there now. Wonder what effect that price increase will have on DT a year from now... don't think it will be good.

Thanks for the research and leg work. Could not help but notice at Walmart the dollar priced Colgate toothpaste you picked up was HALF THE SIZE of the same brand at Dollar Tree (...so TWICE as expensive). The Dollar Tree I frequent is around the corner from work, so I tend to stop by for coffee creamer, kitchen supplies, party or potluck meal necessities and other little things. It's convenient but also the people working there are courteous and helpful UNLIKE my experiences at MegaSize stores. For a few extra cents on each product, I like the dollar stores and their people and will continue to show them patronage FWIW. Still a big fan of you and the fam and ALL the good peeps in your comments section of each video you produce! I think I speak for many when I say: We LOVE you!

Yes, I found out the hard way when it came to the school supplies for my grandkids I went to dollar store THINKING (this is what I get lol) it was cheaper. Then later went to Target for items that DT didn't have. I was so defeated. NOW I know!! LOL Another thing I will not buy at DT even if they are cheaper there is the batteries! A lot of the items even before the DT price increase were still cheaper else where. I think a lot of time time for some they do like to price compare but for lack of "not wanting to make another stop" we'll get it while we are in DT so there for getting it at DT. Thanks for doing the leg work for us!! You ARE appreciated Matt!!

I love Campbell's Kitchen Classic soups. The portion is perfect to fill me compared to a Chunky soup (or store equivalent) which can be a better deal quantity wise but overfills me. Kitchen Classic is still $1 at Dollar General though and at least at my stores, their selection is usually better. One canned food I will look out for at Dollar Tree though is Hanover Soups. It's always $2 or more at the grocery stores here, but shows up at Dollar Tree sometimes although I believe it's overstock as it'll be one or two types. I highly recommend trying Hanover soups if you see it (and like canned soup and the flavor, obviously) as it's some of the best out there in my opinion in tasting closer to homemade.

Thanks, Matt. I've noticed that not only has the price gone up but the sizing of several products have decreased...LA Awesome being one and the Brims popcorn another as well as others. I'm lucky to have Walmart, Target, Dollar General, Aldi's, and Ocean State Job Lot close by so will not be buying as much from Dollar Tree. I feel bad for people who don't have as many options. I hear people say "it's just a quarter" and then I say it's a 25% increase... when's the last time you got a 25% raise. Thanks for the info on the lighters I will definitely be getting those at Walmart since Ocean State Job Lot didn't have any for $.99 last time I was there. Keep up the great videos....always looking for your videos on what to buy at Aldi's every month. :-)
