I’m South African living in the USA. When I tell Americans that South African Malls are fancier and more convenient than USA malls and that I haven’t come across a mall in New York or Boston ( I lived in both places) that’s nicer than SA malls they think I’m lying. One time I went to a mall next to my place called my Mom in SA to show her the mall and her reply was “why nkare oko di firm’eng Nthabi 😂.She couldn’t believe that’s a mall in the states and she added that even South Gate mall looked better. Lesson learned since I moved to the US, grass is not always greener on the other side hence African Americans are moving to SA, SA is not bad guys , you realize that once you move. Fact : South African architecture and interior design is way better and fancier than US, although in America everything is huge, Huge houses, Huge Buildings but they lack that modern feel.
The US moved away from malls a long time ago. You live there. Most of the stuff in your house was delivered by truck. Not 🚫 by you going physically to the mall to buy it. Malls ceased to be a symbol of 'development' ages ago. Except in wannabe places...including Dubai, especially.
Most people in Africa would Choose SA if they could. It's not just for the infrastructure, but South African People are really nice...I am always amazed at how wonderful people are to each other, with all that we've been through, and all that we're dealing with.
Great as always. One thing you will soon realise about South Africa is that we are not trying to be the best in Africa when we do things but we are trying to be the best in the World and our Geography (climate, landscape, biodiversity, human diversity profile) gives us an edge in persuit of this. 1. The first heart transplant in the whole world was done in this country (Not USA, Not UK, Not Germany Not Russia, Not Japan here in SA. SA is a country of so many firsts that sometimes shocks people. South Africa is twice the size of France England is about the same size as one of its provinces( Eastern Cape) yet there is a fairly even distribution of infrastructure across all 9 provinces from towns to smaller cities to cities to city regions to the megapolis of Jozi, Durban and Cape Town.
true I googled it Cape Town In 2017, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first human heart transplant that had been carried out by the South African surgeon, Christiaan ('Chris') Barnard at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town on December 3rd, 1967. Amen Now😊
My husband and I are in the US at the moment for a working trip of 3 months. Many people asked me if we are Australian. One thing I can maybe add about the development of our country is that the SA Rand was stronger than the US dollar in the 80's (1 Rand to 2 dollar) until the US put sanctions against SA due to apartheid. Maybe that can be a contributing factor that SA is quite developed. What I appreciate about SA is the divirsity of cultures. There are so much warmth in the divirsety. The only thing that hinders it is the political agendas that are pushed. But I think all the cultures are wonderful and amazing. I don't want to live in any other country.
You wont need an AC here... It might get hot outside but its always cool inside... Our buildings are brick and mortar, and also concrete... these materials dont insulate heat... timber holds on to heat... concrete does not hold on to heat so even if its hot concrete will be pretty much cool as long as its under shade
Alot of European and American companies are obsessed with South Africa, that's what makes South Africa the ideal gateway to Africa because even dispite our hardships they aren't even reluctant to invest because the opportunities, also South Africa also takes up a large market share of many global brands🇿🇦
There are a variety of different English accents in South Africa. What you guys heard was Afrikaans-English, which is frowned upon by the Conservative-English speakers, who are form British descent & spoken by the more wealthy English upper classes. There are over 100 distinct accents total which could be simplified down to about 3 or 4 main dialects. Black people from wealthier parts who go to private schools & speak in a distinctly different manner than those who don't.
And can I add that you get different Afrikaans-English accents in SA depending on where you are in the country and as stated where they went to school as well as race. Remember there are white Afrikaans speaking people and coloured Afrikaans speaking people (let me just clarify that in SA coloured does not mean a black person amd is not offensive as in America it is an actual race, where in America any person of colour is called black here its not the same) I learned quickly while working in the US a while back that calling someone coloured is VERY offensive and a huge no. I actually heard Trevor Noah say Americans keep telling him not to call himself coloured😂PS. I realise it might be the loudness and brasness of Afrikaans white people that make you think the accent sound Australian and we hear that a lot from other countries but we hate it as we are South African and in a lot of sports like cricket and rugby Australia is one of our biggest oponents. Its like calling Americans British or Jamaican 😂
Im one of those Afrikaans people who speaks with an accent that sounds Australian to a degree, i understand, read and write English as good as any other English speaking person....but my accent makes it sound like i dont know English 🤷♂️
As a South African I'd like to take you further north to Limpopo. I'd like for you to experience rural parts of South Africa. If your interested let me know. We'll provide you with accomodation at our home.
I hope we don't start to make it seem like Limpopo is all rural because every time Limpopo is mentioned in this kind of content, is also rural this rural that.
LIMPOPO and Mpumalanga are a must see. I am from Cape Town and these are two of my favourite provinces. Just too beautiful and cheaper than Cape Town by a long shot.
So glad to see you guys are moving to South Africa, there are so many South Africans moving out of South Africa! I think our South africans must be more appreciative what we have, and not take things for granted. Thanks for sharing your veiws I love your videos. Hope i can give my commrnts on future videos!! SHALOM
There is one thing that makes me grateful and hapy as the Scholar of African history and anthropology of our origins, THE EASE, PEACE OF MIND and Relaxed less stress state. It feels so good when our people from the Diaspora when they visit Africa that they need not to be met with what they left back in the places there. South Africa is complex and our lifestyle has nuisances but in general all South Africasn are happy poeple. Black, White, Colored, Indian and others. We are generally loud , crazy, goofy, happy, annoying people. I see through you, that happiness and living souls. The west can make one die at soulish self. Your energy is light and pleasant. ❤. I love it.
I agree with you. Those malls are really something else and the quality of the stores you find inside them really give you value for your money....... one thing i really noticed was their very reasonable and fair prices. But true there are many. My best was the Eastgste and Sandton ones........ Thank you for sharing! Much love from Zimbabwe.
Visit Manlyn Mall in Pretoria South Africa, the 2 hugest mall in South Africa, things are reasonable price because are made in South Africa not exported, I been in most African countries, things are expensive there because They export almost everything
@@kevinreezygaming That's so true. I compared some roads in Utah, Saltlake city for example and I personally found that SA had some very good and better and attractive roads generally that Utah. Hollywood had a way of selling us the image that everything is gold in the US including the roads.......I remember Trump saying even the airports of Qatar are shaming those of the US. In saying so, I do concede that the US is a more powerful country overall than South Africa, but its not a perfect country made of pure gold. Other areas other countries are better.
South Africa is known for the best food internationally. Top chefs in America and UK can attest to this. Now you must pray with us for good leadership. Anc is tired now but they've taken this country from nothing nd to what it is today. Shalom family. Mzansi uyanithanda (SA loves you) 😊
I live in Australia and have been to South Africa. Afrikaans and Aussie accent are completely different guys. Lol, listen closely. Good video as always
They will learn as time goes by.😊 We have two types of whites in South Africa: 1. English only speaking whites with that Australian accent. The descendants of UK, Switzerland etc. 2. Afrikaans speaking whites (Boers) with Afrikaans accent ND it's quite funny but nice lol ( Descendants of Dutch) Most English speaking whites understand Afrikaans but don't speak it. Boer speak both Afrikaans ND English but Boer don't like English lol. But they'll learn this one as time goes by 😊
I'm glad to hear ya'll having a great time in SA, and ya'll won't go wrong since we've got most of the American comforts here, cool malls, tons of grocery choices, and those familiar American shops and restaurants that really add to the fun. Plus, we've got all sorts of luxurious car dealerships and apartment complexes to pick from. Oh, and the food, It's definitely a bonus, so I'm sure ya'll keep loving your stay in your new amazing country. 😄🇿🇦 Lol, the Australian accent part is so true, and I'm so shocked at how observant you guys are. 😂😂😂 What's interesting is that I've even seen many Australians on social media and on YT who admitted that white South Africans, especially "Afrikaners," sound just like them, and Australia has quite a bunch of white South African expats too. Shalom! 🙏🏽💜💕💖
Firstly, I'd like to properly welcome you back to SA! I really do like your content, and I wish you all the best with your endeavours in the motherland!
It's not the Afrikaans accent; it's the White English accent that sounds somewhat Australian. The Afrikaans accent is completely different. Thanks for an awesome video!
You guys really got that x-factor thing going in presenting your content, like no others, so i keep coming back. Yep, you guys do like your food and your thinking Afrikaans speaking folk sound Australian is funny, but understandable. You might eventually also discover that as we are a country with various languages some black folk in certain areas will speak Afrikaans as their preferred language (up in the Northern areas) and of the multiple peoples there are accents that vary based on the tribe and/or region. Linguistically speaking we have such a rich environment that in spite of the differences somehow works for all South African people in that now famous ubuntu spirit. Can't wait until you pick up more of the languages, even just the basics. There's another episode or more in that for you guys to make.
Everyone in Ireland would here me speak and always ask if I was Australian. I was asked in a shop in Malta once if I was Australian and I held my nose closed and said no I’m not nasal, not realising there was a group of Australians behind me. They were horrified 😂but we all ragged each other and had a good laugh. We always wondered why when Americans in movies put on a South African accent they sound like a combination of German and Australian 😂. I’m not even Afrikaans 😂
Who doesn’t love Woolworths 😁 and l always tell my peeps in Kenya that Woolies sells food in SA & they are so surprised! Also the prices in Kenya are very high compared to SA but it’s due to import tax. CPT is beautiful & yes that shanty town is Khayelitsha. One of the townships in CPT. As beautiful as Cape Town is, it shocks you when you see the townships but that’s with every country in the world. Enjoy your stay there.
Khayelitsha is not all "shanty", there's developed areas there also, there is even a "mini" luxurious hotel there & even bigger & smaller houses built of brick with running water & electricity, plz pay a visit if you have time to see for yourself.
@@hewantssomespecialtreatmen7163 did you even watch the video to understand my comment or you just respond because you feel the need to. What’s the Shanty town or township you see when going to or coming from the Cape Town International Airport? Khayelitsha & Nyanga.
Interesting to hear the perspectives of visitors/ex pats to 🇿🇦, which is great. South African accents - don’t get me started. I am an English speaking South African of mostly British descent and would never have thought Afrikaans speaking folk sound Australian🤔, not slightly more Dutch? Comparing us English speakers vs Afrikaans speakers, especially those of us who grew up speaking either language, our “mother tongues”, we definitely have differing accents, but we do use the same slang (actually any South African regardless of race or background knows the same slang that’s for sure!). I actually grew up in Zimbabwe but have been living in South Africa since I left high school over 30 years ago but my Mother and sister, who now live in England tease me about my (English)South African accent and say I have lost my (English) Zimbabwean accent! The first time I met an Irishman working in Zimbabwe, I asked him if he was Scottish🤣. Accents are are so interesting. Through the years I have generally learned differing accents around the word, but my husband still can’t tell the difference for example between an American or a Canadian, or even between an Australian or a Kiwi - we all speak English but yet quite differently! Despite our problems, there is so much potential here…..
I wonder if this is the same Woolworth's that was popular in the U.S back in the 80s. They sold a bit of everything and I loved that place; there were locations everywhere and they had been around for years before they left the U.S. If it's the same chain, we thought they went out of business lol.
Your editing game has increased over time. Very nice job. I enjoy your videos. We we’re headed there for Christmas but it’s so expensive during that time so we’re headed to Egypt. Will try Johannesburg for spring break instead.
Visiting South Africa over Christmas is in any event a nightmare, because everywhere is terribly overcrowded and the prices are tripled so that the hospitality industry can make money which they don't make during the off season. It's much better to come here during our autumn (which is your spring). Roughly from March to May, when the weather is the best, depending on where you go. Even February is a great month in which to visit. Cape Town has the nicest weather in February and March.
If you're in JHB and CT - the summers are manageable without AC - however Durban is a different story - subtropical climate means high humidity and you probably need AC there if you're not used to high humidity and heat together! Mpumulanga as well can get quite hot in the summer - if you're visiting Kruger/God's window but it's ok if you're inside.
How incredible! You’re literally doing a whole study on the smallest things even a typical South African wouldn’t pay much attention to 😊😊 gotta love your educational content about Africa and South Africa❤️❤️ AC isn’t that much of a thing back home in SA and I got to understand why it is a necessity here in the States. It hit 38 degrees Celsius in my first week in Washington DC and it was insanely humid outside. Being indoors was better than the outside because you breath the same air as if you were in a sauna out there 😢😂 Back home you escape to being outdoors instead as air the is still breathable outdoors during summer.
Hi thank you for shoecasing our amazing country. It os wonderful they way you are doing it. I am a 79 year old white woman so have lived through the harsh time and am happy with the change. My grandaughter has a black boyfriend and Iove hin. If the crime eas better it would be the best country in the world..Enjoy the rest of your stay. Xxx
Wow you guys 😍 thanks for loving South Africanl 🇿🇦 and so much about us. Shanty towns are called a squatter camps here. Yes our food is really very tasty because of the different nations we have, very versatile. Welcome to South Africa 😍🫶👌💯🫶🌟
Woow I didn’t know it snowed in South Afirca! That’s so cool. I like eating their peri peri chicken with chips once in a while. The restaurant is called Nandos. It’s pretty tasty!
Funny how you mention the Australian accent, as an Afrikaans white guy I've been asked multiple times if I'm an Aussie, but I figured it's cause I watch way too much Australian offroading shows and might have picked something up
;) that’s actually a good point. I’ve got loads of Afrikaans friends who ‘learned’ the English in London or abroad, often with Aussie mates, and picked up a lot of their accent;)
If it SOUNDS like that to them right now, then that's what it sounds like. Maybe that will change for them in the future as they interact with different people there.
There are lot of Australians in South Africa. Most of my teachers were in fact Australians. South Africa and Australia share a lot in common, culture, food, politics and climate.
Except the black people of South Africa managed to atleast live as humans. They considered the indigenous people of Australia animals by law up until the 1970's.
You should visit Lesotho in Winter. It snows every winter and they havr skii resorts. SA snows by chance usually, unless its in the mountains of the western cape
I can relate, my partner and i once got lost in Menlyn Mall and we could get out, we didnt know where we paarked the car it was a mess😅😅😅 woolworths quality is unmatched ❤❤
Thank you so much for such a great checklist of our beautiful country! We sometimes forget how blessed we are. It takes a fresh set of eyes to remind us our blessings!
The Woolworths has that aura around it. Who doesn't love Woolies? But my word these fancy Checkers popping up everywhere. I can get lost and immersed in them. And their marketing is AAA+.
When I was living in UAE we had a neighbor from phillipines. When she found out we were from SA the first thing she said the food was what is going to make her visit again.
Correction mate Its the English accent that sounds more Auzzie, the Afrikaans is more direct/raw if they are speaking English. I know because I am a South African living in Australia. Aussies don't believe that I grew up in South Africa -Durban because I sound local. But I am proudly Saffer.
A/C? Thank god we don't have much in the way of A/Cs. We don't have much central heating either. We put on sweaters in the winter and we turn on fans in the summer. We don't burn oil to make electricity for things that aren't necessary. South Africa isn't in the tropics. We're tougher than that and we care about the planet.
Visited New York in July, i would choose SA over New York....America is like a biggers sister of SA....SA being a younger sister of the US, makes SA more attractive 😊
What ??!! My accent, being Afrikaans, sounds like an Australian. That is a surprise, I can tell the small difference between an Australian and New Zealand accent, but never thought we sound like that also.
SHALOM BEAUTIFUL FAM!!! GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS ! WOOLWORTHS.. LOL.. LIKE WOW I HAVENT SEEN ONE IN YEARS..... AND SNOW😮 IM A HAVE TO LET THAT MARINATE 😂...
I agreed right on point. But when I was in cape town for two weeks I did not see any America cars. I seen a lot peoples driving BMWs and Mercedes Benz. Mostly BMWs.
A lot of SAans love German cars ie. Audi, BMW aka Be My Wife, Mercedes, VW we even have nick names like VW's Golf aka Vrrr Pha because of the sound it makes when taking off, speed accelerated😂 Some of these are manufactured in SA
I am sure it has been said already. Two things: 1. Australian accent. Nope. Never. If anything, there might be a similarity between the New Zealand accent and the South African English accent. But no way, Australian. 2. Snow!? Where? If there is snow in the Highveld (Gauteng), it is extremely rare. In the Western Cape you will only really find snow in the mountains and in some places in the Northern and Eastern Cape provinces. All of which again are at altitude. Most certainly not in densely populated areas. Yes, this last winter, we had snow more widespread, but that is definitely the exception. Good job on the channel. Bravo on the effort you guys are putting in. Please be sure to visit other areas, especially North east and west, the greater western and eastern Cape and the Drakensburg region, to mention but a few. Lekker kuier!
@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFEActually USA, china, france Australia UK has more. We number 6 in the world. Did you know we also have the 10th biggest road network in the world? Did you know that South Africa has 6th best Road connectivity in the world?
You all need to go to Durban cus with the breeze coming from the SA sea, I don't believe you need air conditioning. Even in winter & with the humidity,to us the breeze felt wonderful off the ocean.
Aircons use a lot of electricity… Electricity is not only scarce but it is also very expensive here. :) Thank you for your awesome review. South Africa has its issues, but it’s home and we wouldn’t choose to live anywhere else. Enjoy your stay! 😊
First time watching your channel and I think it's great. When it gets hot in summer here, we just leave the windows. I also have a fan, but that's more for the cat.
