I'm just catching up on your videos as I was out at sea when this one was posted, a cruise where I experienced motion sickness a couple of the days. In the past I used to use sea bands and psi bands (same concept as sea bands) and found that they worked fairly well. But then I discovered the ReliefBand which works so much better for me. So the ReliefBand is my go to and I bring along some Bonine as a back up. A number of years ago, I also went through acupuncture to treat other completely unrelated issues I had that had an unexpected side effect of eliminating my motion sickness for a couple years. I'm not sure what specific acupuncture treatment contributed to helping my motion sickness but it was a great benefit for a couple years!

I have used all the products your mentioned. I started with the patch, which you need a prescription to get. You need to wear them at least the day before your trip. Bonine works very well, but I have forgotten to use them before a trip, and have suffered for it. I have chosen, sea bands. I put them on at the airport. They work great. I wear them most times on the ship, and take them off on excursions, or when I don't feel the need to wear them. Thank you so much for all the good advice,

Thank you for these tips and tricks. I have cruised for many years. In my old age, Ive remarried. My husband loves adventures as long as they're on land. What?!!!! For the past 4 years I've been trying to be okay with this. However, I miss cruising so much. We've discussed taking a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas for my birthday. He is very nervous about being sick the entire time. His only experience with cruising is a day cruise that he went on in the early 90s. I'm hoping that with these tips and the fact that today's ships are so much more stable he will enjoy it so much he will want to go again and again. Fingers crossed! Thanks again Janice from Orlando, Florida.

I enjoy your videos and have learned quite a bit. My husband and I love rough seas and we’re very lucky that we never get sea sick. One thing for me that helps is looking out at the horizon and not look down at the sea. Our kids and grandkids all get seasick, and therefore do not like cruising. It’s really too bad. Thanks, Sandra

Bonine chewables are great. I take one when i get on the boat and it’s non drowsy. Scopalamine patches are not OTC and you have to see your primary doctor. These days lots of visits can be done over the phone as Telehealth. Also is you have glaucoma Scopqlqmine patch is not for you. Talk to your doctor about other options. Patches can be placed behind your ear or your lower arm. Small snacks with sips of ginger ale are very helpful as well as Tums. Good luck and happy sailing ⛵️🥰

Just got back from my 2nd cruise. Was seasick on both. The first time I used Seabands and the drops behind the ears . Both helped. This time I used Bonine and it worked like a charm. It didn't make me drowsy at all but I did sleep like a baby, even with the ship rocking and rolling. I took off the sea bands. One of our waiters did suggest green apples which he said worked for him when he first started working on the ship. The ship's engine vibrations actually bother me just as much but the Bovine does the trick. The reception desk was giving out Meklezin, which is the same thing I think.

The green apple solution is new to me. I will definitely try that. On my last cruise a few years ago, I tried to avoid the balcony because I am terrified of water but oddly focusing at the horizon calmed my sea sickness a bit. I moved around a lot so I did not feel the sea movement (but that was before I developed vertigo). I've recently started getting vertigo and it crops up at odd times when I am not doing anything strenuous. I am worried about going on a cruise again. I may try the acupuncture route. PS. I like your video set up and taking note of it . The same height, lighting etc. consistently. I've been working from home off and on for 2 years and I am amazed that people are still not properly set up for video meetings.

We had one other rougher day and I took it again during the day and I regretted it because again, I slept the day away. This time we leave in 10 days and I have the kind you suggested and got some ginger chews. We boat a lot on lakes and things and even when I’m looking down making a sandwich for the kids I get sick. I am the kind of person who gets motion sickness from the spinning of the earth. I have few problems on the ship, but like you mentioned, the excursions and tender ports are tough. Scopamine patches do require a doctor's Rx in the US, I tried them once and am allergic to them. When I had severe nausea from medial treatments, I used "Pregnancy Drops." Hard Candy from the baby section of the store. I think they are ginger based, but they really helped. And don't tough it out, start treatment early!

I am able too get motion sickness patches from Amazon. I don't recall how often I changed them most likely I changed them if they came off in the shower. Chewed ginger gum, and green apples. That's a big tip, don't look down and watch the waves. I've been on three cruises. Did nothing the first cruise, didn't know any better, got sick, and had vertigo for a week after on dry land. 2nd cruise did the patches, gum, and green apples. Just a touch of sickness and some vertigo. 3rd cruise did the same, roughest seas of the three cruises and I did real good. i also had dramamine in my bag, but never used it, because I was afraid of the drowsiness.

I get motion sickness 😷 very easily. I use powdered ginger capsules (you can find them in vitamin area of store) and if this doesn't work I use Relief Band - it gives you an electric shock on the pressure point. The patch requires a prescription but like Bonine & Dramamine they all make me drowsy and extreme cotton mouth.

Hi. Do you have any hints or tips for packing for a 4 month world cruise?

I am ill every cruise. Nothing orally works but patches do. In Canada you can buy them over the counter. About 14.99 for 2 patches at Walmart. Works every time!!

The last cruise I went on had an acupuncturist. He put something behind my ear which worked great. They were little pins.

Hi there I'm going on Norwegian Epic next month around the mediterranean, can I ask do you feel much movement on these ships & are the Nausea bands really that effective against seasickness? It's just I have been on ferries & catarmarans and I felt quite sick on the Irish sea!

On my first cruise, the only thing I could find were OTC patches that went behind your ear. I wore one during a storm but just in case but really didn't need it. I have taken many cruises since and never had to use again. But I always take something just in case!

Now Dramamine has a non-drowsy pill which is actually 1000 mg ginger capsules. I agree with all your recommendations, except the patch. I asked my doctor about prescribing it but he said one side effect is difficulty with urination. A friend who used the patch on a cruise had another side effect was her eyes got dilated, like when you get your eyes checked. She had to wear sunglasses even at night. I like the sea bands and the ginger candies, as well as ginger tea. Acupuncture also does help.

Thanks for sharing. Definitely not a great side effect!! Ginger tea is something I hadn’t considered

Your eyes will get dilated if you put the patch on and touch your eyes. It’s a prescription medication. You must wash your hands and the area behind your ear before putting it on. More importantly, you must wash your hands after putting the patch on. The instructions tell you to make sure you do not touch your eyes after putting the latch on, before washing your hands. The patch last 3 days.

My husband gets terribly sea-sick and on our first cruise he used Scopolamine patches prescribed by our doctor (it was rather expensive, but totally worked) but...PLEASE wash your hands after handling them because a rather scary side effect was one dilated eye from the medication. We ended up rushing to the ER thinking it was a stroke or something worse whenever we got home when I noticed the dilated eye. Turns out, it is harmless side effect from (most likely) touching his eye after handling the medication patch without washing his hands first. Now we have them in case he needs them, but he prefers to use sea-bands now...which seem to help him tremendously! Thanks for all the wonderful tips!

I live by the Patch, wife puts one me before we even board the ship. And change the patch every 4 days. If it falls off for any reason, like what happened to me once. Don't hesitate and replace it. My Doctor knows me well enough, he supplies me with an extra.

Don’t be nervous. I’m extremely sensitive to motion sickness and I have rarely felt uncomfortable on a cruise . I’m 40 and been on about 5 cruises and can only remember feeling a lil dizzy when I was a teenager on a family cruise years ago .

I just got off my first cruise and definitely was sea sick. I tried the patches and they didn’t help. The sea bands (Carnival sells these is the shops and they are $10 for one pair of bands) and motionease essential oil (can buy at Walmart) were lifesavers! I took Dramamine every day and I am not sure if it helped. On the Carnival Breeze the dining room is on the very aft of the boat and it made us sick most nights.

I just discovered that there are withdrawal effects from the scopolamine patches. I wore them for 6 days and felt very light headed the first day without, as if my blood pressure was really low. It is mentioned in the package insert, but not mentioned by my Dr or pharmacist.

I get seasick and motion sick easily. After research I found wearing one earplug and dramimine worked for my cruise. I did not get sick or dizzy at all. The last cruise I went on I took the dramimine alone and was still sick.

Since sea-sickness and vertigo are closely related this might help, and it's non-medical. They're called the Cawthorn Eye Exerises--you can Google them. I've used them for years to treat my vertigo and just doing a few days of the first-level exercises and I start getting some relief. I'll be a first-time cruiser this summer, and I plan on doing the exercises religiously for a few weeks before the cruise.

Lee, thanks for sharing. I have vertigo quite often so I’ll google these exercises. I came here to tell you I was shocked to have NO issues on my one and only cruise March 2020! I wish the same for you; good luck and have fun! I only took medicine the night before we boarded but realized it didn’t mix well with my drink package even though several hours had passed:-) I felt the ship move one rough night but it wasn’t bothersome. My second cruise is in 10 days so crossing my fingers!!

Many years ago my parents and I went on a cruise, unknown to us we were headed for a cyclone and would be sailing through it. I spent 3 days sick in bed. My father called the doctor over these 2 days and was given an injection unfortunately didn't have any effect on me. A fellow passenger learner of my seasickness and knocked on our door and gave me a very small tablet. Unsure what it was but omg it worked. The 3rd day my body threw in a migraine headache. Put me off cruising for many years. Luckily now over the past years I went and got a script for seasick pills and have used kwells for my son and green apples and ginger. Also found ginger and lemon tea bags were very helpful.

I always use the scoplamine ear patch. It seems to work the best for me. One patch ( on ) will last four days ...then I take it off and the medication will last another two days without the patch on. It does give you a dry mouth, just sip fluids or eat hard candy or chew gum. The scoplamine patch comes in a three pack and is Dr ordered. I'd like to try the bonine next time...or wrist band .🤔

Ginger works for e, but I use raw ginger from the grocery store. A dollar's with lasts the entire cruise, just slice of small pieces, suck them then chew them up and swallow.

In Canada we use Gravel. I find the worst time for me is when I am unpacking if we have already left port. I am moving around unpacking and the ship is moving a different way. Take 1 Gravol about 1/2 hr before leaving port, and that sorts me out for the rest of the trip.
