Fortunately, most of these things have an "easy" fix: Switching drawer knobs for something less "catchy"; putting a bungee cord on a hook on the wall above the seat bench to hold the lid up and adding clear plastic storage boxes there to make things easier to access; footstool to bed; setting a pillow in front of the bright lights at night (or making a small blackout "curtain" to attach above it to hang down when not in use); sealing the grey water outlet (or installing it beneath the van); switching out the travel latches for something more durable; slicing off a bit of the window frame to allow the door to close, etc. I have a concrete suggestion: Would it be possible to switch the grey water tank and the rubbish bin? The tank would have a direct feed from your sink into that cabinet, and the rubbish bin would be more accessible next to the fridge, if both of those spaces allow the room for the swap (or perhaps hollowing out enough of the dividing wall to the under-sink area to accommodate the tank). In all, I think everyone learns likes and do-different-next-times with each build!
Wow thank you so much for all of the suggestions! We definitely will take a look at these and figure out what works best for us. We do have plans to fix a lot of these things when we do make our way home and have full access to our tools etc! :)
I wired the switch panel lights into one of the switches so I can turn off the lights but not the switches. I have seen people using quick connections to the grey water tanks to control odors and splashing. Could you spin the refrigerator 180 degrees . Still a nice looking conversion. 👍
Thanks for all the tips! I didn't even think to do that with the switch panel! We will have to look into that. We originally had quick connects set up on our grey water originally. But they kept breaking off our caps. So we had to change it to this set up. And we can't turn our fridge either because there is no room!
Live and learn as you go. You don’t really find out some of these things until you’re actually on the road long enough. We have an RV and there certainly are things that can be improved. You gyus are doing great , though 🙂
Just found you guys, I’m have subscribed, liking your content. If you haven’t resolved the splashing of the waste water, I saw someone with the same issue, they bought some cheep rubber party balloons, cut the top off the balloon, stretched the narrow part (that you put in your mouth to blow up the balloon) over the pipe, and stretched the wider part you have cut over the tank cap, creating a rubber seal, cheep solution.
The number 10 bugs my Girl in the teardrop I built her so I found a way to help I keep a big role of electical tape so she can cover the blue lights at night. Works great and easy to.
Yikes! Your loo in right in the middle of the van! How do you cope if one of you needs to use it in the middle of preparing food or in the middle of the night especially if it’s a number 2!!?
Hahaha we get that a lot but we love our toilet and the placement of it! It even made in out our top 10 favorites list, video dropping tomorrow :) We have gotten comfortable with using the restroom in front of each other, but we definitely give each other privacy whenever possible!
@@the-wandering-wings I appreciate your space was limited when designing the van and it had to go somewhere. I don’t think I could ever use the loo with someone watching me but when needs must.
@@boycottpalmoil we definitely look the other way if one of us is going! But there are different options for designing a van with a separate bathroom for privacy too! For us we didn't want to give up that much space for something we only use 20 minutes a day!
@@the-wandering-wings I can see why you chose to do it that way and it obviously works for you. I have only watched a few of similar videos and some people don’t have a loo at all!
Definitely fixable! We plan on fixing a lot of these things when we go home and have all of our tools at our disposal. The pros definitely outweigh these cons and we absolutely love this lifestyle! Just wanted to share our experience for others so they can avoid making the same mistakes!
