Here’s some trivia you missed. There were TWO film companies. Chicago and Los Angeles. The Palladium theater in Hollywood was used to film the “Mini the moocher” scene with Cab Calloway. This is where the brothers at last convinced the band to do a concert raising the money necessary to save the convent, “just in time” But, the police tracked them down and the brothers skipped out while the band provided cover. An audience was needed to fill all those theater seats. A local FM station, KMET, offered tickets to see the filming and participate as paid extra’s. My wife and I along with a few of our friends were selected. We were there for two days of filming. Had to wear the same clothes and return to the same seats after each break. It was GREAT! After day one was in the “can”, Landis allowed those that wanted to stay and watch rehearsals for the next days shoot. We stayed of course and watched the band play several songs; the brothers rehearse the dancing sequences. During actual filming, with camera's being whisked down the center and side isle's, overhead on tracks, repeatedly. A multitude of audience shots. Reaction shots of clapping, screaming (you get the idea), we were sure to be included in the final edit. Not so fast! While I am certain for ½ a second I see my buddy, I do not see myself or the rest of our friends. But I can say honestly, I was an extra on the first Blues Buster’s Movie and got to “hang out” with Belushi, Aykroyd, Landis, Cab Calloway, Donald Duck Dun and the rest of the Blues Buster’s band

John Wayne's son Ethan Wayne was a stuntman in the movie, look at the credits at the end under stunts, you'll see John E Wayne, Ethan is his middle name but the one he's always gone by, he also played John Wayne's grandson in the movie Big Jake when he was a little boy, so he'd already been in a movie but The Blues Brothers was the first one he did stunt work in, he's also done stunt work in many movies since.

If you have a Chromecast, you can find it online for free on your laptop and forward it to your t.v.. The trick is to find the right site. There are about a dozen sites that offer it for free but make sure you have a good anti-virus / anti-malware because sometimes their sites send out attacks. I have Norton which keeps me safe. The online free versions are the old-school versions that were shown at movie theatres back in the day. Some of the language is really bad though and I don't remember it being so filthy back then, the t.v. versions are definitely cleaner, but t.v. cuts out some important scenes that make the movie flow better. Just a thought.

The late pontiff has been canonized and is known as St. John Paul II. Meaning, this one movie was blessed by a literal saint.
@dank8865
@dank8865 4 года назад
While this is true, don't be too impressed with his canonization. It was purely political. The Right Wing of the Church aren't happy with our new "touchy-feely" nice Pope. So they elevated "their" guy to bolster The Church of Condemnation, Judgment, Chopping the Genitals Off Statues, and Covering For BabyRapers Old Man's Church that THEY like. Just to play Devil's Advocate (which obviously wasn't done correctly during the canonization), exactly what verifiable miracle did that mean old prick perform to be called "Saint" in my Church?
@GeneralBulldog54
@GeneralBulldog54 4 года назад
@@dank8865 The story goes, he healed a nun who had Parkinson's just by his very presence. Whether or not her condition was in remission or flared again is irrelevant, being that Pope Benedict XVI broke protocol (canonization isn't concidered until 5 years after death) due to public pressure to make him a saint.

“The movie went way over budget.” Well I would hope so! I would love if a studio executive decided to visit the set and try to reign in the budget ... then saw them crashing dozens of police cars in pile ups, having chase scenes through the middle of shopping malls, watching Carrie Fisher demolish an entire building, and shutting down the middle of Chicago to send the army in ... then quietly backed away and decided to fly back to LA.

Oh man so many things I could say about this movie. Speaking of Disco, Cab Calloway had the hit song Minnie the Moocher which he first recorded in 1931. However over the years as different musical genres would become popular Calloway would rerecord Minnie the Moocher in the latest hit genre. So in the 70's Calloway was pushing his DISCO version of Minnie the Moocher and that's the version he wanted to put into the movie and it took a lot of convincing by Landis, Akyroyd , Belushi and the Band to get him to do his Big Band version of the song for the movie. Calloway finally relented and the rest is movie history.

"This mall has got everything!" You're right the mall they filmed that famous chase scene was real. And was in Harvey. But it was not called the "Harvey Mall." It was the Dixie (Square) Mall, shuttered in 1979 and rented by Landis for three weeks to shoot that scene. The mall sat dormant and deteriorated for more than three decades afterward before the State of Illinois finally diverted some money from FEMA funds to demolish it in 2012. Look it up. Lots of videos about the sorry state of that mall right here on RU-vid. Including its final demolition.

I read the actual Blues Brothers book while in summer school in driving class in 1981. The book had an extra scene in it, about the band staying the night in a house being built in the suburbs and they blow it up. I was a huge SNL fan and the movie was hilarious for me and I really enjoyed the music to this day. A lot of critics hated Belushi pushing R&B music, thinking he was making fun of it, but he actually pushed the genre and I felt he did a fairly decent job singing most of the songs.

My wife suggested we try to get in (I thought she was nuts) we parked the car walked up to the door rang the bell and somebody let us in. Journey was there, Commander Cody, John Belushi and others we didn’t recognize. After getting a couple of Heinekens from the fridge my wife went over to Belushi (still in his Blues Brother outfit) we had a short conversation he autographed her beer bottle (which we had many years before it took one to many a great fall) and we left.
