Be glad you had those "small moments" with your dad!! For me my dad was never around much, as he was usually working three jobs, THEN he was a member of the volunteer fire department, so basically he was nearly NEVER home!! Those "small moments" in my life, with my own father, was restricted to even "fewer and far between" moments of time!! My father passed away last year, just a couple of days after his birthday. And I do miss him, but the memories I have of him was usually as he was insulting me, and putting me down!!! So there isn't a lot of "fond memories" either!!

I had an absolutely terrible relationship with my biological dad. The only time we got along was when we would play catch. When my daughter was old enough I got her a glove and started with her. She's 24 years old and to this day we still play catch (not enough!) and have a fantastic relationship. At the end when they play catch will never fail to make me tear up. 💙

One of the coolest things that somehow didn't make the list was that MLB has now created the annual Field Of Dreams game, that takes place once each year in the iconic cornfield ballpark in Iowa. It's become one of baseball's coolest events. Cool that Minty dropped this one the day after Opening Day, excellent timing there!
@memnarch129

Clarification. The OG field was not to regulation size so the MLB went about think either 600 to 1000 feet down from the OG field and built one regulation sized. The corn is still there and the teams walk out from the corn just like in the movie. Also the OG field and farmhouse are still there and as Terrance Man said people still pay 20$ a person to walk out on it and play catch with family menbers.

Just because you faced the burden of having an absentee father doesn't mean you should belittle those who did have one and wish they could have spent more time with them. Perhaps instead you could say, that's great you had a father who was around--it sounds like it was really special. Just remember to never take him for granted, as mine wasnt around. I think I am the only person who is more touched by the Dr Archie Graham part than the "father and son wanna play catch" theme. The way Moonlight abandons his Baseball dreams for a second time in order to become a physician really moves me. Lancaster's performance from the moment he saves Karin's life to his exit across the cornfield should have been Academy Award nominated.

The Field of Dreams is 20 minutes from my home and it is crazy how many people travel from all over the world to visit. My high school speech teacher was the location scout who found the farm house. Many locals can be seen throughout the movie. You can also rent out the home located just off the field and spend the night. Great video.

I've been to the field, way back in 2000. It still resembled the movie back then, and hadn't been altered when MLB played a game there. Back then it was just a non-stop pick-up game of baseball. I was so completely captivated by him in this movie. There was something in his facial expressions that just grabbed me and drew me in. It was a sadness, a longing, a loneliness that you could read on his face. That required tremendous skill as an actor. From interviews I’ve seen of him, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I thought for sure he was going to become a huge star, but his career just didn’t have the right trajectory to launch him into superstardom. I’m always thrilled to see him in anything he appears in, but I haven’t seen him in anything for several years now.

When this came out - I had no interest in it as a baseball movie. Then a few years ago in an afternoon with nothing to do I caught it on cable. I still kick myself for not watching this movie sooner. Kevin Costner is great - that goes without saying. James Earl Jones is perfect (and funny). But the scene when they realize that Dr. moonlight just gave up his chance to live his "spirit dream" is heartbreaking. But the message is that he already lived his dream. It wasn't baseball - it was helping others. And of course playing catch and washing away his regret. I'm tearing up right now.

I was in college when this movie came out. I was totally in love with Kevin Costner after The Untouchables, so I went to see Field of Dreams the weekend it opened. It was quite the emotional ride but I held it together until the "Dad, wanna have a catch?" line. I completely fell apart. I sobbed. I kept sobbing until the credits were done. The friend who had come with me actually got concerned about me; she thought I’d had a nervous breakdown or something. She didn’t understand why I got so emotional because she thought the film was dumb. She didn’t get the father/son dynamic that was presented in the movie. I had to see the movie several more times before I could actually watch the end of the movie. (The first two or three times through, I sobbed too much to see what was happening.) I still tear up at that point in the film, and even listening to the soundtrack can cause tears. James Horner’s score is phenomenal, borrowing a few thematic ideas from some of Aaron Copland’s work.

Plus you can still visit the actual Field of Dreams field in Dyersville, IA! I think the reason there are so many reaction videos to this film is because, as someone who’s seen the film, you just can’t wait to see the reaction at the end. I remember seeing the film when it first came out. I knew almost nothing about it, and that is the way to experience it for the first time. Watching it now, yes, there is foreshadowing, but I absolutely did not see that ending coming, and it was one of the most emotional reactions I’ve ever had with a film. I had to sit thru all of the end credits to compose myself. A truly magical film… Burt Lancaster’s performance, James Earl Jones’ baseball speech and the ending that hits you like a ton of bricks. Perfect!

Love this movie and love the fact you're wearing a White Sox jersey, my favorite team. Interesting fact is they were not called the "Black" Sox because of the scandal, but because the Sox owner, Charles Comisky, refused to pay to wash player's game uniforms. So, the Sox played in dirty uniforms until Comiskey caved. He did a bunch of other underhanded things to the players that caused them to find other ways to supplement their income. And by the way, the current White Sox team has one of your fellow Australians as their closer. Thanks for the review.

I was wondering about that--why the fucking heck aren't they doing it this year? I loved it the last couple years. Especially since my beloved but miserable Royals will yet again be missing the playoffs, so I always saw this as a nice meaningful game to watch (for once the regular season is over and the Royals are done, I can't stand to watch even a minute of the playoffs. At least that's how it's been from the day I was born until 2013, and then the 2014 and 2015 seasons something very magical happened for the Royals and us fans, and then once again, ever since 2016, I've once again been unable to watch any playoff baseball and just have to settle for Chiefs football (which has been admittedly great, however, I'm just not that big of a football fan) while waiting for my Kansas Jayhawks basketball to start in November).

Fandango was a big movie? The voice. It would make sense it's voiced by Kevin Costner because it's Ray's guilt and regret about his relationship with his father (which is what the movie is really about and not baseball). So, if the voice is Ray's subconscious guilt breaking through into his conscious mind, Ray is the main driver of everything that happens. Timothy Busfield walking across the field just as a pitch is thrown is one of the bravest and well timed out scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

There has been a Major League game there since 2021, where the Chicago White Sox took on the New York Yankees, where the players come out of the corn field 'ghost' style like in the movie, led out by non other than Kevin Costner.

Thank you for doing this video. Field of dreams was my dad's favorite movie. he watched that all the time. I was actually just thinking about this movie because I was thinking of my dad. Please play catch and watch this movie with him. His June he will have been gone for 13 years and some days feels like it just happened. So thank you for doing a video about this movie that I was just thinking about today❤

My son’s baseball team played there in May of 20222 and it was awesome. Unfortunately we lost in the championship game 6-5.

This started out as a movie that I didn't really like. But as an adult, I can really relate to it a lot more. I have even gotten emotional at the final scene the last couple of times I have watched it. My dad passed away in December, so I don't know if I can get through him having a catch with his dad.

Sorry to read of your father's passing. Seems like you had a good one. Maybe this comment thread can be where we share a good memory? My step-dad passed in 2015 but I talk about him all the time. He really was one of my best friends. He was such a dork sometimes. He cut his hair into a mullet in the 90s and never cut it any other way for years and he had no idea. He thought it was just his "kinda longer in the back" style. 😅 Pinky out while drinking a can of beer. Long drives on Minnesota dirt roads letting the dog run ahead of the truck so he could teach me to drive at 6mph. Taking me shooting for my first time after he cautiously called my biological father to ask permission. Anyone else? I'd love to read some.

"Field Of Dreams" is the closest the 80;s ever came to a Jimmy Stewart/Frank Capra/It's A Wonderful Life tale.

My husband and I loved this movie. It's heart warming and sweet. I'm not sure why reaction videos are all gravitating toward it, but -- okay. However, I would love for someone to do a reaction to your video. That would be hilarious.

I got a tape of this in the mail from one of those catalog programs that offered you six movies super cheap, but then you had to buy a bunch at a premium. I chose this one Jaws, The Untouchables and others. I never heared from that service again and those tapes served as a foundation for my love of cinema.

🙂 It has _that many_ reaction videos because there are _that many_ people who haven't seen it before watched by _that many_ people who LOVED the movie and want to share the experience so, they suggest it. 🙂
